As a Christ follower, Worship Leader, Music Director, Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer, Producer, Writer, Studio Musician, Touring Musician, and Guitar Luthier wanna be, I want to share what I've learned through my years of experience. I'm ready to get into the weeds and nerd out about all of the above and more, in hopes that as I get better, you'll be gettin better too!
Understanding Guitar Audio Routing 👍
Wether you're on stage or in the studio, understanding audio signal paths can be tricky. Today we're going to talk about audio and see some examples of different signal paths. These examples could apply to more that just guitar, the same principles also apply to keyboards, vocal mics, drums mics and anything else that creates audio.

@@rankjuan thanks buddy!
Mic audio is crazy low for someone explaining audio.
Yeah sorry about that. I'll try to fix that for my next stream. Thanks for you input!
greeting from Botswana. we have no amp so we use computer. this program is very nice sound. thanks for demo.
Wow Botswana! That's awesome! It's is a great plugin. Lot's of options on it. Thanks for watching!
Nope
lol, nope what? I forgot the question..
What up from alaska!
Alaska! That's awesome! I've never been but always wanted to go there. Where should I go if I were to visit?
Worship is an inferior music genre. Convince me wrong.
Worship is an expression of love towards ones savior. It's treated like a genre because a lot of the Church uses similar musical styles to connect people together in times of worship. To call worship a genre is an oversimplification, like calling the earth a big rock.. it's a bit more than that. Worship does not need to be great-than, it only needs to point out that Christ is greater than I. Thanks for watching
Im confused, does the pedal need to be plugged into your computer at all times ? Or just when you are downloading the presets ? If it doesn't need the computer, then that's really cool.
No sweat! It only needs to be plugged into a computer to swap sounds. Everything in this video stock sounds, the way it ships before you ever connect it you a computer. Which is pretty awesome because there are some very usable sounds from the get go. I hope that clears it up! Thanks for watching. Did you have a favorite sound?
@@GettinBetterWithDave ahh okay. Got it. I like the dumble OD special. That and the Marshall JCMs sound great.
@@Thedudemannn I'm with ya! great sounds
No comments.... good clean review...
Thanks very much! I just wanted this to be a reference of the sounds more than anything. Did you have a sound that stuck out to you? Are you a ToneX user at this point?
Hello, nice video!
Hey! Thanks very much! Are you looking to get a ToneX?
@@GettinBetterWithDave Yes i am badly lol. I own an hx stomp and an helix. I still wondering if i really need it. But so far what i've been seein it is pretty cool
When worship turns into a confession of sins
For real right! haha
ewww
Haha what?
Terrific video! I love how a mini-board forces you to work with the constraints that you have. The HX Stomp has got to be the most versatile pedal ever made. For the size, price, sheer number of effects, including the legacy ones, and amp/cab to boot (!), it can't be beat.
Agreed! Limitations often yield great creativity. Thanks for the kind words!
Great vid, you guys are great!
Thanks for watching buddy!
Fran knows her stuff, very talented!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Agreed! Thanks for the comment!
Great to meet you, Francesca. I see you and Dave playing for Compass Worship online and wondered who the female guitar/bass player was. Now I know. Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Honey wake up! Dave dropped a new video!
lol yeah and Fran is in it!!
@@GettinBetterWithDave As someone with minimal guitar lingo knowledge, I think She did a great job explaining everything! Those tones are killer
@@rankjuan Agreed!
This was a great video! As a drummer all stuff guitar is super confusing but also super cool to learn about! Thank you Fran for the knowledge you shared and those sounds were 🔥!
Thanks bro!
Why not stereo out? Your delay and reverb are both stereo…
This board could easily go stereo out but at the time made this video, most of the places I was playing only had enough channels for mono electrics. I'm now stereo all the time and it's wonderful. Thanks for the comment! Do you play a stereo rig? What do you use?
Great stuff!
Thanks very much!
Multi-colored "bungie cord" patch cables!
Dude, those are rough!
Qtron 🙌🙌
Oooo! That’s I good shout! I’ve never play a real one, only digital presets. That could be cool!
I dunno I don't even have 1 pedal lol
You should start with an overdrive pedal and a delay pedal. If you want to get into pedals that is. 😊 You’re also welcome to just live vicariously through me. (When I get things back in order)
@@GettinBetterWithDave those are very strong choices I have been really wanting a delay pedal
@@ldoubleprime1654 If you want to get your feet wet on the cheap, the Flamma Analog Delay pedal is $29 on amazon and sounds pretty great! I have one on a mini board I keep meaning to show on the channel but haven't yet. But whatever pedal you choose, jump in and have fun with it!
@@GettinBetterWithDave oooo dang I'll be sure to check it out!
I could not do without my favorite, and sometimes only bass pedal I use. The boss GEB-7 equalizer . Thanks for the informative video
Nice! You use an GEB-7? Is it modded or factory? How do you use it?
It is factory, I use it for a little boost sometimes, and if s room it to boomy, I have a sound dialed in and it is mostly a always on, l great pedal
Acoustasonic move, nice one 😂 the difference is these are thought through, so far I love my tonex one, while my acoustasonic broke down constantly 😂
Haha for real man, that's what it felt like when every CZcamsr has one early. Glad you're digging the Tonex One. I haven't got mine yet but that should change soon.
Love my kz zs10 pro x.
I'm glad you found some KZs that you love, man! They are a ridiculous value! Thanks of the comment!
@GettinBetterWithDave thanks! I've had them a while recently lost an e a r bud to a set I love dearly and just got a btr 3k so turn my kzs into "buds"
@@jjayala Right on!
Great technique that finger raking picking!!
Thanks! I've used that a lot. It's a pretty sweet trick
You guys are full of it, there's no such a thing as an alleged worship tone you fakers.
I've been playing guitar for worship at my church for 19 years. Absolutly nothing in this is needed. When I started I had no pedals. Now I have too many to count and I just use 5 pedals. A wah to accent a bend during a solo, a drive pedal, chorus, delay ( analog for "normal" delay and tape for some frippertronics) and a reverb.
Wow! Thank you for serving the Church faithful for so many years! I'm sorry my video didn't help you much. My goals are more to help newer players that are learning, not as much seasoned players, such as yourself. Thanks for letting me know though. Have a good one!
Was that a bass gig with Life In Jersey?
Lol There's a name I haven't thought of in quite some time!
Good fun, Dave.
Why thank you! and thanks for being a part of the filming.
My comment made an appearance! Yay! Great fun, Dave.
It was too funny! I had to include it!
Wake up babe, new gettin better with Dave vid just dropped
lol
awesome vid, are you just finding these boards online or are you taking submissions?
Thanks very much! I found these online a couple weeks ago. But if this becomes a thing, I will take submissions for future videos. Thanks for the comment!
Aww man I couldn't catch this live! Looking forward to more of these though 🔥
All good! Many more to come!
I'm a drummer and have been doing some research about IEM's. Your video has been the best I've seen on reviews. Keep getting better, Dave!
Bro! Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad the video was helpful for you. 😊
Peter Steele of Type O Negative played Bass with Distortion, Chorus, Delay and Sometimes Fuzz. He was one of the best Players.
For sure! I wish more local players felt so free to try these types of sounds. They can add so much! Thanks for the comment!
Nearly every goth bassist ever looked slightly sadder when he made chorus no. 1.
@@danielatherton1631 Haha does that make chorus the saddest of effect pedals?
@@GettinBetterWithDave Only if you play it in the saddest of keys
@@danielatherton1631 haha Dm FTW
I have many KZ models; some are great, but most are mediocre. KZ seems to understand that people like to collect them because they release a new model every month.
Yeah man, I had know idea there were so many until I went on there site. I'm glad I found some I like early on. I probably would have given up if I didn't like the 2nd pair I tried. Thanks for the comment!
Hey man, I just got the KZ dqs for like $18 they are so good bassy clear great pair 🤙🏼
Love that!! Glad you found a set you dig and you didnt have to sell a guitar to get them! Haha
BS video
Thanks for your feedback.
Well, that was a clickbait title. You just described the 6 most common effects used on bass.
Thank you for your feedback! My goal was to inspire players that have never tried these sounds before. Not to make never before heard sounds. If you use all these sounds I believe you are in the more creative minority of bassest. But that’s just my opinion. Thanks for the comment!
Great video!! I think its hard to utilize many of these sounds especially in a live scenario. Many effects either reduce or obscure timbral harmonics( dist, fuzz) or they restrict rhythmic control as in the case of delay and reverb. 99% of the time bass is utilized as an accompaniment instrument and it is generally sought after for these very features. Ofc theres exceptions to this rule. Music is artistic after all.
Thanks for the comment! My hope with this video was to challenge Bassist to try something new. I think these type of sounds can work, even in a live context, if dialed in well and used sparingly/tastefully.
@@GettinBetterWithDave Love it, bro!
Aka every bassist's dream pedal board
Haha for real! But how many players never make that dream a reality? Thanks for the comment!
I use all of these all the time.
You my friend would be the exception to the rule in the musical circles I run in. And I bet if I saw you play, I'd be bugging you about your board after the show! haha Thanks for the comment!
@@GettinBetterWithDave Well, I play in a Primus tribute band so I definitely use more effects than most people. Fun video. I'll check out more of your stuff.
@@Rickytbird omg Ricky, you’re my hero for that comment! 😆😆 Heck yes you use effects playing Primus tunes! That’s so fun, and I bet challenging to play Les’s parts. Super cool
@@GettinBetterWithDave It's a lot of fun for sure! We're called Mr. Knowitall. We have few videos on CZcams.
I'll check it out! Thanks!
Chorus (+reverb) is great for fretless. Octaver can be usefull when playing high on the fretboard while keeping also a low-end. AutoWah for old funk. Distortion can be nice for a solo.
Oooo! Fretless with effects, that something I haven't thought about in a while. Thanks for the comment!
