Velocity Banking Strategy: How to do Velocity Banking When You're Paid Monthly
Welcome to a deep dive into Velocity Banking strategies when managing monthly paychecks. This case study revolves around a client receiving her paycheck on the 20th, and we're navigating her budgetary landscape to optimize credit card payments.
Grab the worksheets I use in my videos or download a case study that closely matches your financial situation by clicking here...payhip.com/AskMeHowIBudget
The primary focus was ensuring payments align with her salary while also considering utility charges and discounts. Due to impending fees and lost discounts, she'll need to tweak her strategy for specific bills.
Paying your credit cards early, upon payday, aims to stretch the gap between payment and bill. This approach decreases the average daily interest, thus diminishing overall credit card debt while channeling additional funds toward the primary card for faster paydowns.
In this video, we detail how she plans her payments in alignment with her paycheck, covering her variable expenses, utilities, mortgage, and car payments while strategically reallocating funds to maximize debt reduction.
We've tailored this budget to a very tight figure, ensuring each expense aligns with income without compromising debt repayment efforts. However, this tight margin allows minimal room for unexpected expenses. We've discussed potential areas where budgetary constraints may arise, urging a conscious approach to expenses.
The importance of meticulously tracking expenses is emphasized, especially with a budget this stringent. To help, I recommend using my worksheets, notably the Money Tracker, a vital tool for managing a tight budget. You can find the worksheets in the pinned comments or the description.
If you have any questions or suggestions for optimizing tight budgets and credit card payments, don't hesitate to drop a comment. Let's dive into this strategic financial journey together!

    Hi Molly, after binge-watching your videos, it clicked. Thank you! I am rewatching them again to cement my understanding of your VB strategies. My income varies from month to month. I tracked my spending for the past few months to get true variable averages. I only work 10 months out of the year. I survived last summer because I used your matching "credit card minimum payments to bills" strategy. Now my focus is using the extra cash flow that these matches free up, to pay down my primary credit card. I do not have a line of credit. I tried to apply for a LOC with my credit union which I have been a member of for years. My thinking was, that since I have a car loan with them, I would qualify for one. Sadly, this was not the case. I pray that I can get one this year? I am extremely grateful for your channel and transparency about your own financial journey. My prayer is to get out of debt. Praying you are well and that God blesses the works of your hands exponentially! Amen!

    @askmehowibudget, Molly, I love your Velocity Banking spreadsheets. I purchased them in October 2023 when they first came out. Thank you for your all that you do! Your strategic method of matching credit card minimum payments to bills payable with credit cards helped me survive last summer and get back on track financially. It would be wonderful if you created a spreadsheet for matching MPs to bills. Thank you again! I miss your videos and updates on your financial status or case examples. However, I know you are doing a new thing with collaborations. Blessings to you!

    Thanks. Just looked into getting a HELOC to consolidate credit card debt and decided against it. The upfront costs exceeded a full year of the interest rate savings it provided. • @dmoro67

    This would work for responsible people who pay for what they spend on the cc. Fools like me and my family buy things with the cc and only pay the minimum because we can't afford to pay in full for what we purchase on the cc. I do like the concept and have been using it as best I can but it feel like trying to bail water out of a boat full of wholes. I find that using the cards only to pay for things I will be paying for anyway, like the cable bill, is the best solution for us. Otherwise, we spend spend spend and can't keep track of all of these small charges which add up and we can't pay for.

    I have a question, so I made 193.00 payment,this cover my storage,and couple of subscriptions,my due date 17th,however it did lower my balance bexause min 115.00 however when the interest was added by the 24th,I had make another payment for my storage and subscription could be covered.My question is do i need to reset ny due date for my storage and subscription?

    • @Jesus-kt5dc
      @Jesus-kt5dc Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not sure what you mean by reset due date on storage and subscription. I will say, you want to make the 193 payment amount on that CC as soon as you have the money available (money in). As for the when to make payment to storage and subscription, I would just do automatic payment. Also change the due date on the card to the 28th or closes to it without going over. This gives you the entire month to make the 193. Also if you make the payment early say the 3rd the average daily balance will be lower for 25 days. Myself I pay my storage unit every 2 months, because I know they're not taking my stuff right away. So month 1 the storage unit lowers ADB for 1 month amount. Month 2 lowers ADB by 2 months of monthly payment. Example: Storage Unit 200 monthly payment. Month 1: I don't pay so my ADB is lower by 200 the whole month. Month 2: I pay on due date. At that point I had month 1 and month 2 (400) parked on the CC lowering the ADB by 400 dollars for the entire 2nd month. Hope this helps, have a great day.

    My highest minimum payment card has the highest balance and close to maxed out. I been using my lowest balance card with the highest interest as my primary. Am I wrong or don't it matter? I was going to snowball to the next lowest while still matching up or sleeping other cards.

    • @Jesus-kt5dc
      @Jesus-kt5dc Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not going to say you're doing it wrong because finances are personal. What I will say is, not the most effective or strategic. Stop focusing on the interest, focus on cash flow. For the simple fact that the more cash flow we gain the faster we pay off debt. The card with the highest minimum is your main debt tool. I would park my gasoline, groceries and miscellaneous expenses on the main CC. Combined with monthly cash flow. The reason is groceries and gasoline are a constant expenses, cash flow is what pays down the CC balance. So in my opinion main CC you park gasoline, groceries, miscellaneous and cash flow. All other cards are sleeper cards that you bill match. You're sleeping them to stop the bleeding, not pay down yet. On sleeper cards don't worry if the balance goes up (unless close to max out) because you're paying your primary CC so fast (with cash flow) that you will get to your sleeper cards eventually in the future. Of course the more cash flow the better. Hope this helps have a great day.

    • @Jesus-kt5dc

      You pay it from your checking account. The 438 is no longer needed to meet any bill/expense. So you just make the payment to the primary card because the primary card is where you park your cash flow. Hope this helps.

  • @NelsonReyesJr
    @NelsonReyesJr Před 3 měsíci

    I disagree with you. If you have $3800 /month of minimum payments on your credit cards, a 30-year fixed rate HELOC for $90k comes out to about $746 /month, with the option of paying early and extra payments without penalty, you can make a double payment each month and still pay less than half what you would pay for all your credit cards. In addition, the interest you pay, is tax deductible..... no brainer.
