Naya Energy is AMAZING against SCAM! - Timeless
MH3 has been out for about a week, and it's definitely had quite an impact on Timeless. I've personally encountered a lot of interesting brews, but mostly just a whole lot of scam in different versions. And I think I speak for most people, when I say that scam is a really frustrating archetype to play against, so in this video I bring you a Naya Energy build, that I've had a lot of succes with, particularly against scam decks!

    My build is very heavy on the +1/+1 counters theme. I also utilize most of the 2 for 1 legendary cards like Minsc, Drizzt, Tolsimir, etc. My legendary spell count is 44 and 32 of them are creatures. All legendary. Not a single nonlegendary creature. Ramp is very tied to legends, too. 0 Basics gang, as well. Decent interaction, protection and removal, yada yada. For your variants - as we have discussed on the offical Jodah discord, tribal builds are not very good. They work, just not strong. Superfriends Jodah is strong and annoying, but you really need a way to animate your walkers as a final punch to the face. Top deck manipulation is nice, but totally not needed to waste cards slots for. Going heavy into the casting from exile is fun, but not that good. You honetly wanna cast legends from hand as much as possible. We have discussed the Kellan combo. Very rarely, it can dump your entire hand + extra, but it just isn't as consistent. I personally do not run Kellan. His legendary enchantment on the other hand is an extreme banger tho :3 I consider myself to be very well versed in all manner of Jodah builds :D

I really don‘t like planeswalkers in commander and Jodah peeked my interest, I don‘t know why but the card just rings to me. So because that precon is an already decent legends-matter beatdown shell, maybe I could upgrade it into a Jodah legends-matter midrange list that might perform better? • @GeneralCanada
      @GeneralCanada Před 27 dny

      @ceaselessmtg my logic is that the decks you're going to face against are going to be drastically higher power level in timeless vs historic and I don't think these deck are utilizing timeless specific cards well. I agree with you bauble may be a pretty significant downgrade, but the replacement options for what you'd play against in historic seem pretty appealing (spring leaf drum would probably be my choice). I do think affinity might play really well in timeless but I still am skeptical about soul sisters (love these lists though).

    • @ceaselessmtg
      @ceaselessmtg Před 27 dny

      @@GeneralCanada I see your point. You gotta factor in the completely new MH3 cards like Sorin, Ocelot and Guide of Souls, of which we have about 0 data about, in terms of how they would perform in Timeless. And even though the deck is more or less fully Historic legal, you also can't necessarily draw conclusions about it's viability in Timeless, as those formats are vastly different. So in this case specifically, Sorin's -1 seems better as a way to finish the game in a fetchland format, full of Reanimate and Death's Shadow.

It's more consistently gonna be able to hit Labyrinth on t1, but at the same time you're lowering your artifact count, and I don't think you can do a lot of that before you end with a net negative in terms of overall consistency.

We don’t really know how cards like treasure cruise impact the scam meta, but we know what beanstalk does and we can draw parallels. Dimir scam is the direction I’m heading day one. I’ve been a fan in legacy of dimir shadow and scam decks for years. Very nice video by the way. Subbed

      Sounds awesome man! And thanks a lot, glad you liked it! What do you think about Psychic Frog?

      I’m going to try it! Being able to pitch it to grief and subtlety, sac to flare of denial and get reanimation targets in the yard should be good enough.

    My prediction: We're going to see some 5c shitpile with reanimate/show & tell combo/beanstalk all in one, that will be the best deck of the format. On a side note merfolk is gonna become pretty decent now, it's the only deck that can reliably use flare of denial, to become great it still lacks aether vial and tide shaper though.

      Not fully convinced about the pile you describe, however I agree that Merfolk are indeed starting to look solid.

    is a Jund Deck still good in Timeless?

    Just found this channel and love to see more amazing timeless contents. One small thing is that scam was 50/50 vs rhinos before fury ban iirc.

      Thanks a lot, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed the video! You might be correct about the scam vs rhinos match up. I'm not really an expert in that format. I can see how you're actually in an okay spot when you can always just topdeck a single card that more or less wins you the game. That said, I still think that scam is gonna have a favorable match up against omnitell, as that deck typically needs multiple spells in their hand to actually do something with Omniscience.

    what is scam? tldw

    • @ceaselessmtg
      @ceaselessmtg Před měsícem

      A strategy build around disrupting your opponents hand before they get a chance to play game. Grief + Reanimate is the core of the deck.

    • @Enja_Near
      @Enja_Near Před měsícem

      Should add it was called scam specifically because the original deck used undying evil and ephemerate so you could double dip the ETB and scam the evoke clause.

      @@Enja_Near I think you missed to mention the card that is flickered?

    Idc that elementals are unfair just as long as show and tell and titan decks stop dominating the format

    • @ceaselessmtg
      @ceaselessmtg Před měsícem

      Haha I kind of agree. Although I do hope they release an anthology to introduce some of the needed tools to balance a format with evoke elementals, such as Force of Will for example.

    Damn, your editing is smooth. Anyway, I think you're pretty solid with your predictions, though I think Domain Zoo and Death's Shadow deserved a mention for their potential matchups (as the 2nd and 3rd most popular decks behind Show and Tell)

    • @ceaselessmtg
      @ceaselessmtg Před měsícem

      Thanks a lot, appreciate it! I agree, although it was more of an effort to keep the video on topic and easy to watch. The video could also easily have been 3x as long. But you're right both Domain Zoo and DS are for sure relevant players in the metagame.
