Stark-Varg-Luddenham Test June 2024
360 video : click and hold the mouse to rotate the video.
Drying track : Luddenham Australia. 8 years old tyre which held ok-ish.
Today we were working on peg and handlebar position.
The Stark Varg is returning to the track we lost the original powertrain to redeem itself. As it is with a MX offset (21mm), the bike is a sec off my petrol smr pace. We also improved cooling on track with 3 full rotations & charge cycle before derating ! The Varg is coming for it..

    I have a 100/100/17" which equates to 4.75" for my rear tire. It fits so fucking well on the talaria, the wheels are dished a small amount, didn't have to do anything to the tire. This is the biggest tire you can fit on the Talaria, period. There are only a few tire brands that use this size so it's not for everyone but I love them. The tire is IRC Enduro VE33 100/100/17"

    The amount of money you need to dump into one of these surrons/talarias to make them perform "like" a true dirtbike just isn't worth it. By the time you're done modding - the only stock part left would be the frame and even then its just a strange size and feel in comparison. I love these bikes but if someone's goal is true enduro/offroad riding just stick to dirtbikes. These things are great for messing around and using it like a pitbike or as you said light smoother trails.

And to be honest, with young kids that's all i have left to play with !!! It's a balancing act...They're not designed for enduro stuff, But if i can make it work for my type of riding, maybe others can benefit from it, or at least manufacturers can design parts for it...For example, I spoke to gritshift about making that sprocket spacer, sent them my measurements and they're looking into it. If that results in a product your can use Out of the box for larget wheels, that's all good ! But yeah, i agree i think at the end of it i'll endup going back to stock everything and buy a bike built for it.. By then i should have my Stark delivered hopefully :)

      @@jglaine Nice one. I’m no suspension expert but the heavier wheel would add unsprung mass which I thought would be more a valving change? Run that rear nice and low. Maybe a little lower initially until the carcass softens which doesn’t take long at all. For comparison I weigh 77kg ungeared / 112kg bike / 8psi 110/100/18 xc scorpion (thin walled like the Michelin you have) / greased Dunlop hd tube / smash rocks reasonably hard / never dented rear. Rim. Im partial to mousse on the front though Good luck !

    Thanks for your updates, I like your videos! What I can't understand is that many people want bigger/wider rear tires and then cut of the side knobs. It is the last thing I would do!

      yes ! in my case that's all i could find at the local shop, but no way i'd go that big next time.. And 100% agree wth you, cutting knobbs is dangerous too ! Hopefully once i'm done with this tyre i can get a decent alternative that bolts straight on ! other thing is, with that size you lose a lot of agility...i will report after a proper test, but my guess is it will suck on single trails..However i think the hard enduro stuff is going to be really enjoyable, especially climbs and rocky stuff...

    Those tires are huge! For a mountain bike 😂. I’m liking mine stock for now. Yea it needs better tires, but until a power upgrade is here I don’t personally want to do it. But I am swapping to a bigger sprocket to see how that is. I only ride right single tracks. Great vid. Ride on my Aussie brotha!!

      I completely agree with you, it's all about what type of terrain with these bikes ! stock is almost always better, at least until a power upgrade is available ! i've tried 54, 58 and 60t..So far i like the 60t, only dropped 3km/h compared to 58T. I found gear ratio is only noticeable until maybe 30km/h, then it feels the same..hope this helps !

      @@jglaine awe thanks man! I wanted a 52 but got a 56 instead. I was kinda bummed as I don’t want to destroy the top speed. I got a new chain for the 52 but now it’s too short. I’ll let ya know how it works! Or u could check the channel from time to time. I’ll be posting vids like crazy now lol. Cheers mate!!

    Are those warp 9 pegs? What did you need to modify to make them work?

    • @jglaine
      @jglaine Před 2 lety

      They're from aebikes, not sure which brand. It requires a spacer for the overall width, and a spacer at rhe bottom of the bracket to lift the peg levelled with the bike. but they work
