This was incredibly well done, and a great watch. Thank you for chronicling this tournament, it's been phenomenal to go back in time and see these games for the first time, since I didn't start following the scene until 2018-2019.

This is an amazing conversation. It makes me emotional. I almost wish I could go back to this point, 10 years ago, and forget everything I know about NES Tetris, just so I can relearn the game again with these guys. Back then, getting a maxout was the ultimate test of character, creativity, perseverance, intellect, and insanity. It wasn't just a score or milestone - it was a spiritual achievement, an intensely personal journey. Of course, even today, getting the maxout is still a rare and amazing achievement. But we would do well to remember precious moments like these, to respect the stories of the past and how they paved the way for the booming growth of today. We may have better scores now, but we must not neglect our history, our heart, grit, and character on the way to said scores.

i definitely agree with the idea that motivation definitely is the primary driving factor. before picking up rolling, i was a keyboard tapper and had an 800k, but i ended up dropping nes tetris before maxing out because of consistency issues and just general frustration with grinding. i wasn't until genesis x was announced and i saw they had tetris that really drove me to begin grinding nes tetris again, let alone with a new playstyle, that gave me the motivation to actually grind the game for a maxout that i got 4 months after starting rolling (but really in like a month total of active play)

It's absolutely wild that Jonas' reign might have been prematurely cut in half if not for this documentary forcing him to review the actual footage and remember the loss correctly

No one ever mentioning that Bo vs Harry match is this exciting? Holy moly. I know who win the whole thing in 2014 but I'm starting to question reality and had to open wikipedia to check in between lol

Awesome series, I'm super appreciative of the footage. I liked that the commentary was given as if it was real-time because they're great commentators and it added to the hype and experience. And showcasing players that didnt win isnt a bad thing, as they're also a part of it.

Interesting how TreyVison™ is giving insight into the match, for instance in the Alex vs Eli game three Alex had significantly less i-pieces throughout the game but wasn't that far behind in score even though he had to deal with more droughts. It's a great thing they can play the same piece sequences nowadays.

don't want to take anything away from HArry ...but that was a time when there was no SPS!!. the "SPS"tournament rules usually favor the more consistent, conservative players (survival result in more wins that pure aggression), in this case Harry was aided by good RNG. he got alot of bars at the right time on lv18 and even lv19 most games, this allowed him to play extremely aggressive and not top out, wich put alot of pressure on Jonas to play risky. Jonas tried to play his usual very conservative 18 and normally this worked in those days of the CTWC, but because Harry got very good RNG and played so aggro, Jonas fell behind to much and with DAS its very difficult to catch up to 100K or more after LV19 transition if the opponent doesn't top out or gets hurt by bad rng. last game : Jonas was close but then got " RNG'd" with a huge drought of nearly 40 pieces wich forced him to burn alot and miss like potentially 7-8 tetrises wich is weell over 200K points, all that burning allowed Harry wich did not get same RNG and huge draught in that game, to build a huge lead into L19 this forced Jonas to play risky and unusually aggressive on LV19, wich is outside his comfort zone at the time, this contributed to him stacking to high and topping out and losing the match. With SPS and less generous RNG, Jonas would likly won all but 1 game probably, we will never know. We do know that this loss forced him to train to play more efficient and agrressive on LV18 so not to be in the LV19 nightmare again , where he's behind by 100K or more and need to rely on opponent top out or force play aggro 19 which was not hes strength and very risky also. this match and Harry made Jonas a much better player from 2015-2018. while Jonas went on to win 3 more CTWC (7 total) and reach 4 more finals and have decent result all the way to 2020 which is 10 years, Harry never came close to the success 2014, ever again. its safe to say Jonas had the last laugh and is clearly the overall better player in terms of results, but the rivalry was great and was part of the history of the game and need to be celebrated cause we will probably never see same players play each other so many times in the final, now most are lucky to ever reach 1 final ever, fractal has 2, dog has 3final apperances most of any active player, that's still SIX finals less than Jonas!! and Dog played many years now, so the games changed a lot. there are now alot more strong players and new tech has changed the game beyond recognition. during the DAS "era" (2010-2017) up to 2017 Jonas was the king. 2104 was the peak of a great rivalry but not a revolution, 2018 was the revolution that changed the game forever.

Great video, awesome documentary. Very cool to hear more from Terry who has been a very undershadowed figure in the community.

This series was enjoyable but definitely felt bloated in terms of time and narratively confusing. Early on it is mentioned that the audio is being recorded in the present day, but they still pretend as if it is live and they don't know the results, but its not brought up again afterwards. It makes for a strange viewing experience. Seeing all the games in full was also unnecessary imo. A lot of narrative focus was spent on Terry who then isn't relevant to the climax in part 5 of the finals, while relatively little time is spent in comparison on Harry and Jonas. I think this could have been more tightly edited, making cuts down to a 1.5-2.5 ish hour total runtime. of 2-3 episodes total.

I feel sorry for Terry; I know a lot of us would have nerves like that. He seems like a great guy though.

Although unexpected, I love that we got to hear more from Terry, who has been a very overshadowed person in the community even though he has had very good placings throughout CTWC history.

High quality. It's great to see all this great archival footage... especially of Jonas, whom we cannot hear from anymore. I am learning so much about the scene from when the trophy was a 'T'.

Jonas said in an interview that Trey sniping him in the first round was one of a few factors that made 2014 a much less enjoyable CTWC than the other years he competed.

It's unreal seeing all this footage in such high-resolution, considering it feels like ages ago.

Back then on the gameboy, Tetris for me was that "not-SuperMarioLand" game. So fascinating what Tetris still triggers in gamers after the development gaming has undergone... 😯 Thank so much for that documentary about this gaming phenomenon 🙏

Terry was a true gentleman and nothing but encouraging when we iinteracting in line in 2013/2014. I was always rooting for him.
