amazing talk
overweight, health problems all round (cant breath properly) mos tllikely caused by lifestyle of stifness from working with computer under stress. arent software engineers supposed to be smart?
Is the video speeded up? lol
i just checked the repo for the roc compiler… Why is there a float implementation in zig? isn’t it supposed to be a hardware primitive?
Rust and Zig might be the new C++ and C (rust is not to zig what c++ is to c) to continue their legacy to further
What do you mean by test your idea?! You're making software to identified ideas and problems that business has a has financing for.
Great insights from Venkat
TLDR a dude tried to cut corners while building a new programming language and ended up having to use two new languages. Jesus...
I remember when people thought Rust was going to be huge. Didn't turn out that way. Seeing very little interest in it these days. Or at least, very little interest outside of early adopters.
love his "2x video speed" energy
😅 I like how this was NOT a talk about Roc lang. 😂
I don't think I understood a word of this, but it was fascinating nonetheless!
Heaven and Hell ;)
Which one is which?
@@RiwenX yeah, well if you need to ask….. then you are probably already neck deep in the rust koolaide, so no amount of logical discussion will bring any light to the question
RIP Stefan, thanks for all legacy you left behind you.
Fantastic that you’ve put this online!!
Zig 🤝 Rust
Looking forward to this talk 🔥
This is the way.
MS Code has a great plugin for Clojure. No need for Emacs.
Coffeescript is a great language. I don't understand why it got out of fashion.
First statement: associated all white people with the east india company, which is simply false. Second statement: sucking all the money out of the world and giving it to elon musk. Great talk, but your ideology of white shaming you can keep to yourself. The British has a lot to answer for. You trying to globalize that guilt is just wrong. Plenty of white countries that did not operate like your ancestors did -- so clean up your own mess mate.
Great talk! Is there any further read on cross entity invariant specs? There would be a potential eventual consistency problem there, wouldn´t it? If the view/read model is stale, the invariant wouldn't be taken into account properly.
Wouldn't 38 in Roman numerals be "XXXIIX"?
No
Seemed cool until it basically needs orbital to do everything. I wish i could embed the guts of orbital directly in my application instead
You can. There's an open source embeddable TaxiQL engine that you can stick in your apps. (It's JVM based, but anyone could build a TaxiQL engine in a different language)
@@martypitt6529 that's great to hear! Do you have examples of using it with an event type system like Kafka as well?
@@jscancella absolutely - Kafka is one of our main use cases in the wild. Details are in the docs (can't link here, sorry). We're all on slack, so can answer in more detail there!
@@martypitt6529 Thanks I will check it out! We aren't using Kafka yet, but I think where I work will inevitably move to a message based system in the future and I am hoping we can use this
Webpack, JS is far away and ahead of Webpack..... old tech.
50:14 - man i bet you are saying to yourself "well looking back i guess that was COVID-19"...
I did not know that you were the inventor of typescript, happy to know
Cool, cool. So Atoms are like useState in React? You learn something new everyday
Chaotic. Unorganized. I have no idea what this is about. I'm shocked what hateful and noninclusive words she picks. First the thing about skin cancer then later the GrumpyOldMan in her excel sheet. Unbelievable.
22:50 I suspect the share your expertise with others will just turn into unhealthy competition if left to users to input those skills. It should gather/track info from projects the contributor is/has done.
A context already means that it's bounded. Otherwise it wouldn't be a context. Saying bounded context is just stupidly confusing.
Is there one on how Spotify lays people off too?
Good talk! We use backstage at my work (not spotify) and it is useful, particularly the templates.
Bloody hell, I'm only 30 minutes in but this is an amazing demo of Elixir/ the BEAM vm! Awesome job man!!!
After all, what is the Minimum Viable Architecture? I don't get it.
How does Spotify encourage career mobility for musicians?
Has anyone found a piece of software that could pull Jira data and measure the value stream stats as shown here?
1:35 Composable, Unix, Predicable, Idiomatic, Domain
Rust does have a return keyword. You just don’t have to use it in the scenario you’re explaining. You can use it for early returns.
I am unsure if this is trolling or I am just stupid. Maybe both
Why upload a 2019 video now
timeless content?
Who's building APIs designed to be queried by LLMs/APIs that can take user garbage prompts and figure out what they actually asked for????
Thanks.
I'm missing human generated subtitles:(
completely amazing! 👏👏👏👏👏
Ahh the good old CCCLC pattern..
Thank you so much, This is amazing
Pure gold
Aside from the short, vague blip about AI supervised code review, I found nothing novel or insightful in this talk; a bunch of stuff that is already baked into the platforms we use and highly unimpressive applications of this tech.
If she is going to quote Pres. Kennedy , she needs to work on her Boaton accent. Lol
