You will see many of our MineMountModels.com products on our CZcams channel.
My videos show Mine Mount Models new products, How-tos, and behind the scenes. They are also about 2 layouts that I am building.
The first layout is a now defuncted railroad that my Dad and I were building a long time ago... at the beginning of CZcams (2006). It's an HO scale 13'x16' layout based off of a John Armstrong design called "Pennsylvania RR, Schuylkill River Division"
The second layout is a HO/HOn3 dual gauge railroad set in the mountains. I features logging scenes as well as mining and maritime scenery. It occupies a 14'x15' space in my basement, and has a 3'x20' annex staging area..
Both layouts still have a lot of projects to be completed. So many videos featuring benchwork, electrical/DCC, scenery, model build will be shown on my CZcams channel.
Please enjoy.

On October 1, 2016, the Garden Stated Division of the NMRA held their fall meet. A couple months prior to this they asked me if I would have my layout open for tours. This was is a timelapse video of my FIRST open house. A total of about 28 people stopped by, which I think was a great turnout. I think due to the fact that I was the "New Guy". Everyone is eager to see new layouts in their area. ...

I FINALLY installed the approaching tracks to the curved trestle. This video are of the 1st runs across the gorge scene. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I still need to create the waterfall part of it, but that will happen in time. Follow the layout progress on the Facebook page m. MMandSRR/
Homemade Groundcover from Foam

April 26, 2016 - Coloring the Rocks in the Gorge Scene

Quick update on the gorge scene. Over the past few night I've managed to add coloring to the rather blah brown rock castings I did. The 2 main steps I took are covered in my 2 previous videos.
Part 2 - More Coloring of Rock Molds with Artist's Oils.
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 8 lety
Continuing with the coloration of the rocks. Once the latex gray wash has thoroughly dried on the rock molds, you want to come in and apply some artists oil paints. Very small dabs of this paint are all that you need. It is very strong. You're going to soak the dabs of paint with a thinner that is compatible with the oil paints. This causes a very neat effect representing mineral deposits and r...
Part 1 - Coloring Rock Molds with Paint Washes
zhlédnutí 47KPřed 8 lety
Here's a neat technique that I discovered while building a diorama with my daughter. After I plastered all of my rock molds onto the scenery base, I sprayed all of them with deluded Tints-All pigments named Van Dyke Brown, and Raw Umber. After that dried I give it a wash made from interior light gray latex paint, diluted with water and IPA alcohol. The thin gray wash allows the brown undertones...

Could you use Acrylic paints to color the foam?
I would think so. Just the dyes are not as concentrated. Also, the latex part of the paint might make the soft sponginess a little stiffer after it dries. This is just my thoughts. No scientific evidence.
You know it’s funny about two weeks ago I just started doing almost this exact thing except I was using acrylic paint from Walmart for around $.53 a bottle. The Kelley green looked really good. Except I was taking larger chunks and cutting them up with the scissors, consistently over and over again and I often try to figure out what would work to make them finer. Thank you for the video. This helps a lot!!!
You’re welcome. I’m glad it was helpful.
Blend cheap car cleaning sponge in a little WATER. then you can SEE the scale of the chopped sponge. Colour with acrylic paints later!
you didn't link the web site in the comments
Thanks for the heads up.
Nice video!
Thank you, dude from 13 years ago.
Great information. Thank you for sharing this. Technical suggestion: Audio levels need to be better balanced. The transition music just blasts our ears. Also, your narration with the blender open was drowned out by the blender motor. Most video programs allow you to do overdubs and/or mix audio channels. Cheers.
Awesome idea for the budget minded like myself. Looks easy enough to build. I'm going to get going on one this week. Thank you for sharing this video.🚂🚃🚃🚃
2nd Layout, 1st time using a circuit breaker, had my doubts of me actually needing a circuit breaker but on the flip side I can’t see where it will be a negative. Thanks for sharing!
Do you use plastic rail jointers for each block
I have in the past. On this layout I used a Dremel to cut thin gaps. Then super glue in small squares of styrene. Then use small files to shape it to the profile of the rail.
Would this make a decent looking topsoil if chopped fine enough?
What could be an alternative to Tints all? I'm in Canada and have never seen it here. Blenders must be the number one wedding present everyone gets but never uses, see them at second hand stores and yard sales all the time.
Amazing work! That bridge recently got renovated from a decommissioned rail line to a walking/bike path which connects Philadelphia to Bala Cynwyd.
Another source of foam to grind up is that old lounge someone is throwing out. I use it all the time.
Great layout of the Lehigh Valley railroad that Ralph DeBlasi built & operates. I’m very impressed with it. 7 members of my family worked for the Lehigh Valley railroad out of Coxton Yard. My great grandfather Stephen Kearney I was an engineer for them, 4 grand uncles & 2 second cousins all worked for the Lehigh Valley railroad from about 1868 up to when it became Conrail in 1976. I’m an N scale model railroader & my. N scale model railroad is the Pacific West Coast railroad. My layout will focus on the West Coast of North America that will focus from 1974 to the present from Tijuana, Baja California Norte, Mexico to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada & it will focus on the railroads that have served & service the West Coast.
Doing reruns Ron, very much love the way you show your track build method in this video. Very clear and concise!
Took my eye of my blender for a few seconds and the foam blew the top right off it. What a freakin mess! Well, it’s a learning process right? Thank you for the video it’s gonna look great on my grandsons Zelda shrine diorama
I like the color you got from the avacado tint. I made quite a bit of this ground foam ground cover last year. I got a huge amont of foam from the left overs of the apartment next door's new carpet project. I still have several coffee cans full of uncolored foam that I ground in a coffee bean blender (no water for that technique). I used regular artists acrylic paints for coloring my ground cover. I got that avacado color by adding some burnt umber to the grass green blend I had already mixed for several batches. Thank you Ron, your tutorial turned out very nice.
I love how people take their own spin on this technique. It helps me learn new ways, too.
"It'll be a spectacular wreck!! It's too bad no one will be around to see it." - Dr Emmet L Brown Back to The Future 3, the train off the trestle scene! Which admittedly, that's kind of what I was hoping for but this was still good. 😁👌
Thanks. Very helpful. Very straight forward which is great.
I wish I saw this video before I through out the foam I had laying around for years. Oh well!! Great video!! I'm just getting started on my N scale layout. This video was very helpful!!
I'm glad it is helpful for you.
I'm getting ready to order Micro Engineering's Steel Viaduct and build on a curve too just the opposite of yours. Going to sub so I can see the rest, Chris
Your video was very informative. I'm at a point in the construction of my N scale layout where seeing this video made me aware of something that I really wasn't aware of. I also have a Power Cab System so this seems like a perfect solution for this problem. Great Job! Looking forward to any more information you might have!
I’m glad it was helpful for you.

Thanks

How many steam locomotives do have? or stations for that matter?
Not many. Maybe 5 steam engines, and not all are working right now. Lol
@@MineMountModels Do you still have your Pennsylvania Railroad layout I know you did a narrow gauge themed railroad but wasn't sure?
Unfortunately, the Pennsy railroad was taken down. My dad moved out of the house.
@@MineMountModels loved the Ohio State colors in the basement. worked well with the Pennsylvania Railroad themed model railroad....
Hi Ron. Just found the videos on the Garden State Division web site. Nice work. Suggestions. 1. File the ends of cut rails in the following ways: the bottom as you showed, square the ends you showed , plus bevel the tops if the base flanges each side of the web and taper each side of the flange. The rail join ers will slip on easier without spreading and hold better. Has your NMRA gauge to check your track. One side of the gauge has a center probe that you can use to check the centering of your rails against your pencil centerline.
One could probably get a similar effect by using pigment powders in certain areas, though you'd have to brush it on exactly where you wanted it.
Nice bridge
Nothing much left there these days. The old derelict cars were privately owned and have been sent to different places to be restored
Now that is real modelling very impressed with that track work well done indeed!
Hi just found this video and it was exactly what I was looking for, so thank you for that. I have a question for you that I hope you can help me with, I now thanks to your video understand power districts but do you use the feed from the output of each breaker to power the turnouts as well as the track? Or do you use a separate breaker to supply power to the turnouts? Hope this makes sense.
I would run a separate power supply to run your switch motors. If you mean power to the track of the switches, then you use power from each break, depending on which district your switches are in.
How do you calculate the distance if the bearings from each other please
If you are talking about during construction, between the 3 roller, then I just eyed it up. If you are talking about when I roll the rail through to bend it, then I start out with a wide curve. Then adjust it tighter as needed.
Hi Ron many thanks for advice I have lengths of ten mile to bend to 8ft diameter curves wish me look.lol
גשר יפה וביצוע נחמד.. כל הכבוד..
תודה
The top of the "slider" is a tiny bit higher than the top of the rest of the unit, so the roller on the slider must be a little higher than the 2 stationary rollers, or did you correct for this with a washer?
I meant two washers -- one under each stationary roller - ?
No. Each roller is in direct contact with the wood. The bottom web of the rail fits under and helps keep the rail flat as you push it through.
Not sure, but it looks like your not leaving enough expansion room at each joint, expands .015 per 3 feet
The rails have been fine so far. 6 years and counting. My basement temperature is pretty consistent.
Well done Ron. Definitely worth doing it once I get an old blender. Not sure where I'll buy the tint locally however as all I have around here is Home Depot and Lowes. Hope they sell it. All the small hardware stores around here were forced out of business by the huge stores unfortunately.
Looking great....What ME kit is that you used? Is it more then one kit combined. Thanks. Philip
Thanks. It’s the ME Tall Steel Viaduct 210’, and extension legs kits.
@@MineMountModels Thanks for the info. I am debating about building a straight Viaduct about 30 to 36 inches long on my mountain HO railroad and was actually using some Central Valley Girders to try and build the bents and tower section, but I think I may not have any pieces in the CV parts that would look like the cross bracing girders on the tower. I will have to look again to be sure and see if it's possible with the parts I have in the CV girder sections. Otherwise, I may have to invest in the ME kit. Thanks for the info. appreciated. Philip
What kind of paint should I use ? That's painted right ?
Mikey810 Carrigan The plastic out of the box is brown. I just did a wash of a couple brown paints on individual boards. This breaks up the solid look of plastic. Then I put on a variety of powdered weathering chalks. The roof I painted grimy black and added chalks. The metal chutes I paint gray and rusted them up with paint and chalk.
Looks good I have a picture of my dad as a young guy with one of these in the background near his home.
Nice. I wish CZcams allowed photo sharing. That would be cool to see.
