Curzon Cinema Clevedon: The Oldest Cinema in England
zhlédnutí 405Před dnem
The oldest cinema in the world! Step back in time to this art deco, 1920s cinema. Visiting is a wonderfully nostalgic experience, but one that was almost lost forever, when declining audience numbers meant that the cinema almost closed its doors for good during the 1990s. If it hadn’t been for the determination and passion of the people of Clevedon, this cinema could have faced the same fate as...

I,m going to work in taormina this coming august (2024) and i am a bit worried about the tourist and local attitude
It’s a very beautiful place and felt very safe. The only real downside was what I covered in the video and that it was not possible to relax near Isola Bella due to being constantly asked for a Thai massage, but we did not encounter this problem anywhere else. Hospitality was friendly enough, but the prices varied a lot - try to eat on the outskirts as much as possible. Every footstep seemed to make a difference to the price! It’s very geared up for tourists as that’s how they make most of their money in Taormina. That’s why we liked the cafe I mentioned as locals used it. It was homemade, cheaper and felt more authentic as they were earning a living by serving the local community, opposed to predominantly tourists. If I had to work there for a while, I’d be happy about it.
Where do you buy your dresses?
I’m on Instagram so I tag all my clothes on there 😊 A mixture of vintage, handmade from old fabric or retro. In this video, Madcap England is the black and white dress. The dress in the timelapse was handmade by Clarice Vintage. It’s made out of an old pair of curtains!
@@NicolaExplores Thank you! 🙂
Old projectionist here, I would love to see this, just the old projection equipment makes a lump in the throat. Terrific
Aww, that’s so lovely to hear. I am glad you were moved by my video. It is such a wonderful place and the work they are doing to bring it back to life is incredible. Whereabouts did you work?
Hi. I worked in Banbury Oxfordshire as my main cinema but hardly ever took time off as on my days off, I would travel to Oxford cinemas. Obsessed is not the word for me. I miss it so much, no other work like it. So many memories to share.
@@felixscamp that’s great to have such a strong passion for what you did to earn a living. I bet. If you ever come to the area, it’s definitely worth a visit.
My ADHD brain NEEEEDS these kinds of instructional videos 😂 now can you please do similiar videos for like…..everywhere?!
It’s funny isn’t it…it’s easy when you know how…but when signs are small or pretty much non-existent, it isn’t 😂 We thought there would be a bus!
Fabulous..shhhh don’t tell everyone 😂
Haha, thanks Karen 🥰 Have you visited?
Great information. A lot packed in the well done video.
One of my favourite places. My first visit was in 1969 as a child to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Wow you must have seen some changes. I’m so glad they are restoring it now.
Fantastic vedio ❤❤❤❤
Thank you 🤩
A lovely cinema well worth visiting. The video says it all.
Thank you ☺️ We will definitely go back.
It was a lovely experience with family
Definitely 🥰 What a grand day out.
It’s very nice - but what a tourist trap.
Have you visited? Yes it’s very beautiful but I know what you mean…it only seems to be geared up for tourism/hospitality so definitely lacks character because of that. I much preferred Catania because people are going about their daily lives and the city doesn’t predominately revolve around tourism.
@@NicolaExplores was in both places last week. Stayed in Catania. Some really cool sites and great culture. Also liked agrigento and Syracuse.
Looks tasty
We were blown away by the food and markets.
Great travel tips
Thank you ☺️
These videos are good fun!
Thank you so much, glad you’re enjoying them 😊
Cool video, thanks for sharing regards Sean.
Thanks Sean, glad you enjoyed it. Definitely worth a visit.
Shelter looks really interesting with lots of artefacts. Great little video
yes, a real treasure trove of World War II memorabilia
The shelter looks fascinating.
glad you enjoyed watching, it's a real hidden gem in Bristol
Thanks for sharing this fantastic content, a beautiful sites!
Thank you so much. I have just woke up to this comment. What a lovely start to the day 🥰 Glad you enjoyed watching. I am very new to making videos so appreciate the encouragement ☺️ We really were surprised by how fantastic Pisa is.
Im going there in october looking for a cheaper house in mozzomeli how far is it from Catania? Any bus from catAnia to mozzomeli?
Catania is fab. Mussomeli is about 90 miles away so it’s probably possible to get a coach but you might have to change. We didn’t go there so I’m afraid I don’t know. It was easy to travel to Taormina and Syracuse by bus for a day trip.
Mast ❤😢
Thanks a lot for visiting my city😊 , I hope you enjoyed😊
Absolutely loved it 🥰 One of my all time favourite places and would love to return.
@@NicolaExploresHappy to hear that 😊
I'm off to Catania tomorrow. This has got me in the mood. Thanks
You’re welcome, thanks for watching, and hope you have a brilliant time. We were so surprised and loved every minute.
Great video. Lots of information.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed watching. Hope it brought back some lovely memories 😊
I love a good cable car but Mrs Towels isn’t as keen!
It was a bit wobbly, but did feel secure. Is Mrs Towels afraid of heights?
@@NicolaExplores A little 😀
Great film work.
Thank you, lots of editing to do! 😊
Cool video. It's Sean x
Sean from AVR? 😊
Looks like you've been busy. Enjoy the rest of your trip
Thank you ☺️ One final gelato 🍧👌
I have some great memories here. Very well filmed 😊
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you :)
Looks great 😃
It was, such a beautiful place!
Looking forward to seeing the full video.
Thank you 🙏 Which city are you most looking forward to? 😊
Can't wait 😊
Thank you ☺️ Which city would you must like to watch?
@@NicolaExplores Pisa. Having visited it many years ago, it will be interesting to see what we missed
Loved being there. Next time I will make it 5 days.
Aww, how long did you go for the first time? My only regret is not visiting Isola Bella as the grottoes look enchanting, but it’s so difficult to see every part of a place when visiting for the first time ☺️
😅 why did i think buying a one way ticket meant you were just trapped at the top 😂 going to need to you compare to walking it up…for science e
Yes we thought very carefully about which way we walked 🤣 Down was definitely preferable in the heat! 😅
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads 😀
One of my favourite films 🍿
Nice city
Definitely ☺️ Thanks for watching.
I was onboard the Matthew twice when it toured Newfoundland in 1997 as it is believed that he only visited Newfoundland and possible the northern tip of Cape Breton Island. We saw it come into Placentia harbour on the east coast (visit also) and also visited it a few weeks later when it was in Port aux Basques (west coast). All visits were free!! We later saw it in Bristol harbour during a tour of the harbour 15-20 years ago.
Oh wow, that’s fantastic. I doubt many people can say they saw The Matthew in all those locations!
@@NicolaExplores I'm sure your correct. The only ones are likely the crew and perhaps a certain number of Newfoundlanders. Of course their could be the odd people like me and my wife. We had actually planned to see the Matthew at Placentia as we had visited Newfoundland in 1995. In 1995 we saw a replica of a Norse ship from the 11th century which was touring the island. We saw it at L'Anse aux Meadows; where a replica of the only known Viking encampment in North America is known to have existed. On our visit to England in 2018 we took a day trip to Bristol from Bath and hoped to see the Matthew again.
@@lucforand8527 well I am glad you did 😊 Did you see Cabot Tower?
Ah! Thats so cute it was your first date place ❤ all the places are so picturesque!
Thank you, it actually rained on our first date so it was a little different 🤭
A lovely part of Bristol with great views.
Definitely one of my favourite places, packed full of so many memories 🥰
Beautiful Place
It is very enchanting 🤩 Definitely one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
It's so easy to take for granted what we have on our doorstep. From a Bristolian 😊
Definitely, we are so lucky in Bristol 😍
Love seeing footage of my home town, not having lived there for years!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed watching it. I think it was the sunniest time I ever visited so great to capture it 😍
Great to see the city filmed so well and nicely presented ❤️
Thank you so much Shaun, I really appreciate the feedback 😊 I visit Brandon Hill very regularly so it’s great to show it to others who might not be able to visit. Or even those who can, and love it as much as I do!
What a visual paradise!! Love to see cities that co-exist with the ruins and historical places. Also, your outfits are 100/10 ❤❤
Aw thanks Jamie, yes the heritage here is definitely being cherished now. It’s hard to believe that the Odeon was originally built over! Thanks for watching. Tomorrow’s video is going to be about one of my favourite places in my hometown 🥰
are the beaches here swimmable?
We didn’t swim ourselves, but some people were swimming and paddling around Isola Bella and Mazzarò Beach
Too hot in August right? I’ve also heard Scilly is generally pretty dirty with garbage?
Yes August wouldn’t be for everyone as it’d be too hot. I personally would prefer to visit during the cooler months and would not visit during August myself. Taormina was spotless and we didn’t encounter a problem with garbage in other places. It’s fair to say that some of the buildings are in great need of some TLC and unfortunately there is a lot of tagging in some areas. Taormina didn’t have this problem though.
