When I first looked into Araiso.. Private High School Student Council Executive Committee, I knew this was gonna be an anime I loved. Boy was I wrong. Talk about catfishing. Checking in after Shaybs big finale, will say communal aging out of a hobby is a "natural" phenomenon and yeah guess aprox 15-20 years is about right for a new gen with new values and creators etc... That said, theres still always the recent AniTuber database to check and also people like HaydenHistorian and Pause and Select who have nigh academic levels of dedication and research. Even in reminscing the "ways used to be" when an adult nerd crowd still had time and energy...there still are plenty old head nerds out there willing to put the energy to keep the communtiy flowing, if onlu offline/convention and still neglected by youtube algorithm. Hell, as a guy who cycles his interests every 5 years or so, i came back to Magic the Gathering to find local peole 50-60 still part of the community to rebuild a whole part. Kinda funny circling back to Shaybs too, since while retiring digest, he himself is rather "graduating" to a full career in anime distribution, so nerddom still finds a way

Personally, two underrated anime I like are Ushio to Tora and Key the Metal Idol. I know you didn't like the former very much but i think it's one of the few shounen anime I have seen that executes the tropes so well it actually feels natural, no wonder It's so influential. Key might feel too slow for some, especially episode 14, but It's worth watching, like a spiritual predecesor of things such GiTS or Lain, It's also a good deconstruction and critique of Idol culture before Perfect Blue, and It's definetely a better one than Oshi no Ko. I kinda wonder why It's not popular, hidden gem.

Hopefully, in the three years since you posted this, you have completed watching HxH 2011 so you get the full view of Gon's story. Note that episode 76 of HxH 2011 seamlessly continues from the HxH 1999 Greed Island arc. Three OVA series followed the 1999 televised series so Nipon could catch up as new anime chapters became available. The first completes the Yorknew City arc, and the next two are the Greed Island arc. Both 1999 and 2011 complete Greed Island at the same point, with Gon and Killua being teleported to where Kite is. Let me call out three highlights of 1999 you didn't specifically mention. The first is episode 1, which introduces us to both Gon and Kite, just as chapter 1 of the manga does. Leaving out Kite is the biggest flaw in the 2011 adaptation. Then, in episode 24. Gon has been paralyzed and humiliated by Hisoka's punch. The 2011 summarizes this situation with a single shot of a despondent Gon staring out from a hollowed tree. It's a very good and iconic image. *But* 1999 takes that single shot and builds up half an episode of Gon's recovery, both physical and mental, covering Gon's three days of paralysis. (2011-onlys -- yes, Gon was paralyzed for three days. The adaptation of this part was very weak, because you probably didn't realize that.) The last standout episode I'll mention is episode 46. This follows immediately from the Heaven's Arena arc, where Gon and Killua go to Whale Island and meet with Gon's family. The difference from 2011 is stylistically brilliant. It is presented from Killua's point of view, where he gets exposed to a real, loving family for the first time. We also see him be defeated by his nemesis, never revealed in 2011.🤔 SPOILER: bell pepper❗

This is thanks to Eikichi Onizuka's unconventional brand of morality and using it to help his students and fellow faculty members take accountability for their own lives and live up to their words. Never heard of this one before; granted, I don't watch enough "Delinquent Anime" honestly. I gotta finish GTO and Tenjho Tenge (that counts, right?) anyway, but I'll add Angel Densetsu to my watch list, especially since it's just a nice, short OVA and right here on CZcams. Thanks for the rec, ABW! You ever seen Slayers or Saber Marionette, ABW? You've covered a lot and I gotta dive into your backlog more, so if you have already, my bad. I've been diving into those lately since they're just old-school adventure anime goofy fun that look great - totally 90s - and I just feel like that's a good genre to dive into during the sunny, Summer season. Right now, I care more about making money, working out, forming new connections, and working on my hobbies. But if you ask me, I don't think the niche is dying out. I've enjoyed endless anime podcast and I even use to produce for an anime podcast. Currently the mainstream anime series are very diverse, expansive and somewhat saturated. Some people jump ahead into manga/manhwa. Some people are very quick to drop a show. Reaction content is now rising in popularity, and if we do get a "deep dive" it's often about multiple shows at once based on the year and season of anime. A lot of anitubers and anime podcast don't know how to really analyze a show beyond saying "good" "Bad" "Like it" "don't like it". The more thoughtful word essay analysts are being left out to dry amongst a very stale audience, and they may often run into content strikes by one of several Japanese companies who are paid to find copyright material. Also it seems like several anitubers don't know how to truly step up there editing quality for the sake of the video

"I have to disagree because there are plenty of anime for older audiences" Most anime adaptations nowadays come from either shounen mangas or light novels, both of which are aimed at kids.
