      Yes, watercolor! I don't like waiting either, so I typically work in sections, so by the time I'm done with one section (like the eyes) another section is dry and I can do some top-layer techniques if I need to.

    Da Vinci Eye has been a lifesavor for me. It's a great app that has all the functions I need without purchasing anything. I can't say that I've tried it on a larger canvas, but I know it does have features that allow the image to hold its position even when you have to move or readjust.

    This is obviously a newish artist. Using Gumstrip and water to stretch paper not only gives you flat paper but also means you can use old envelopes, infact any thin paper that would cockle without stretching. I have no idea why she says you make holes on your drawing board or any of the other misinformation unless nobody taught her the correct way to stretch paper or if she’s selling/ sponsors by some company that doesn’t want people stretching paper . If you stretch correctly using gumstrip there’s no residue, it doesn’t take ages because you stretch the night before and always have a fresh board and paper ready the next morning and pin holes? Why on earth would she get pin holes? You never EVERpin wet paper . It’s obvious she is a noob at that stage. Let’s see what she says 6 yr later. Hopefully isn’t being influenced by making money from companies telling her to give bad advice to beginners

    • @aquilawatercolor
      @aquilawatercolor Před 10 měsíci

      Hey there! I'm so happy you found a way to stretch that works for you, that's awesome. And yes, things have changed in the last six years - although I still don't stretch my paper, cause I just don't want to, I actually use 300lb paper now instead. And I wish there were some companies out there paying me to create content, but it's all me right now. And there's definitely nothing wrong with being a noob watercolorist, everyone is at some point. Happy painting!

    I am disabled, and cannot work upright on a window like this. Let me tell you, it took TREMENDOUS courage for me to even come back to painting since my accident, and I am STILL finding workarounds for my physical limitations. But one of the things that has changed IMMENSELY since my days in school is the cost of light boards. I remember the 900 ways we had to rig something similar to them when I was an art student in the 90s, because they were so expensive to purchase. But I got a very lightweight one with multiple levels of brightness (my eyes are extremely sensitive to light because of my disability) off Amazon for like twenty bucks. It has to be plugged in, which is its only downside. But it has been a game changer for me. The window trick is awesome and amazing and FREE. I am all here for anything and everything which makes art as accessible as possible to everyone!!! This video is invaluable as it stands. I merely wanted to mention the light boards because I am finding I am doing more work now that I have an easier method for transferring. 💜

      @@patriciaflesner2894 I just tried a new finish for Yupo- and it works wonderfully! I mount the Yupo (a heavier Yupo paper) to a wood panel, using Golden soft gel medium- I'm making a video soon about how I do this- then I cover the front and sides with Dorlands Wax medium. It worked wonderfully to protect the painting and deepen the colors. However, I wouldn't recommend using the wax medium unless you fuse the painting to a hard surface. This way the painting will not be flexible, and the finish will stay nice. Happy painting!

      Yes, and it is much less work. You soak the paper in water for around 10 minutes, then fix it via tape or a lot of staplers to a surface and let it dry. What is shown here is to avoid the few minutes of work and the night you have to wait and instead wait for half a week. Sorry, but i cant believe people actually like this video.

    That was amazing. When you darkened the edge and moved the color in, it really bought out the eyes of the dog. Happy mistake.

      Thanks Dan! I agree. My motto is just keep painting :D

    what about taping it down before painting?

      Hey there! Yes, you can do that, and it will help. But most likely (unless you are painting on 300lb paper) you will still have to flatten it afterwards.

    I love the way you teach. Will you be making more CZcams’s? Another beautiful piece💕

      Thank you! I hope to make more videos in a few months. I really enjoy it but I'm focusing on some other things for now. Thanks for watching!

      Great! When you watch my video about flattening, just make sure to check out the update in the description, as I now like to flatten my watercolors by ironing them!

    That takes longer and is just as much work as stretching it in the first place. I read somewhere that you can soak a watercolor paper and just go ahead and use it without stretching it as long as you're going to use it immediately after soaking it. Have you tried this? Is it true?

      I haven't tried that but that's how the queen of negative painting, Linda Kemp, does it. It's definitely worth exploring! I need to post an updated video, as I actually iron my watercolors flat now.

    Actually makes the dog more 3d with the blue color background change. Bravo for the stain to have occurred!
