Freqtube is a hardware tube processor. Audio from the computer to the device and back is transmitted via the USB-C port. This means that on the way to the device the digital signal is converted to analog, and on the way back to digital again. And I will say right away that the conversion is completely transparent and works at 32-bit resolution, but more details on this in a moment. All we need to do is install the drivers and run the dedicated plug-in of the same name from the audio editor or DAW.
The front panel of the device has eight freely configurable potentiometers and a color LCD screen. But all in all, it's just an addition, it's not needed at all. I could put this device somewhere in the back or even hide it. Of course, the device requires mains power, but I didn't expect it to be different, after all, there are real lamps working inside!
This is a relatively new product, I think I first heard about it in 2022 at the Berlin Superbooth fair. I have heard about similar solutions based on a Thunderbolt connection, but the Australian company Freqport managed to create a product that works based on a USB connection and there are plans for further devices, they can be called analog plug-ins.
Pros
- beautiful tube saturation that warms the low end and midrange I find impossible to achieve with any of my 1000 software plug-ins
- very wide range of applications: from subtle tube mastering, ear-pleasing brightening, warming up bass regions, bringing vocals to life, drum bus saturation and parallel saturation and compression, adding harmonics to kick or bass, to tube distortion
- convenient operation via USB connection, without additional cables, or the need to use up physical inputs and outputs, buying a new audio interface or ADAT expansion.
- the processor, although hardware, is operated in the same way as other plug-ins, with recall of settings and automation of parameters.
- it is possible to us 4 lamps in various configurations, 2xstereo, 1xstereo and 2xmono or 4x mono
- transparent conversion (around 120dB dynamics) and very low noise level
- repeatable sound, the effect is the same every time, consistent with the settings saved in the session
- the processor can be operated using potentiometers, but it can also be placed out of view so as not to take up space on the desk
- easy start-up and ultra-stable operation, after turning on the device is recognized by the system and ready for operation, not a single problem or glitch occurred during a month of testing
- the lamps look nice
- I heard you can connect more devices to one computer
Cons
- precise setting, e.g. of the output gain, requires really precise movements, because the slightest movement is a movement of 1 or 2 dB.
- with very strong saturation, slight differences between channels appear (but you really have to crank it up and set extreme saturation fot that to occur)
- tubes lifespan is limited to a few or a maximum of several thousand hours, but then I guess you can change the tubes and they are relatively cheep.

Izotope Ozone 11 - The Best Mastering Plug-in?
Why did KRK do away with the kevlar dome tweeter and go back to the silk dome design?
keep going... you so crisp clear and clean like KrK
Day and night difference on your first song.. feel like Nectar is for less detailed oriented ppl who don't have the knowledge or time tween their recordings
I can't see the benefit. I think your first mix was much better than what nectar did with the vocals.
Great video, thank you. I’m also switching from logic and studio one. I still like both of them but to use the updated features in logic I’d have to buy a new mac. To use the new plugin in s1, I’d have to subscribe, (never doing that). I especially liked s1 too, but I must move forward without them. 🎹♥️
Polo Tremolo. Your excellent music would work on any controller. The music is the main thing.
can we use the computer's keyboard on guitar rig 7? i cant find how
Is there a way to layer on the fly? I just bought one and it seems pretty complicated to layer quickly.
adat? weird.
5min +/- - I prefer your original processing by far. Cheers.
Q. when you change scenes as it's playing it's immediate...do.. how does it work.. does it jump to bar 1 beat 1 of the new scene or just swap in the middle of where ever you are in the previous scene.. like beat 3 for example?
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot!
Thank you for explaining all this so well.
great video! super clear. I love how the whole time there's some KILLER tracks going on. Nice work Polo!
got some G4 7s the best bang for your buck (KRK Rokit not necessarily the G4 7) that there is bright but not obnoxious tons of bass though i use a sub too, an amazing set, im interested in the Rokit 10/3 maybe
Digging this sponsorship approach lol and great info! Thank you 🙏🏾
Yo, you have 4 group of 99 pattern, so is bpm by group or it can be different in the same group ? Like A01 can be 130 bpm and A02 can be 146 ?
Great video. your dogs are super cute 😊 tracker mini ftw
Thanks!
Re: External MIDI keyboard control. Apparently there is a problem (mid-May 2024) in that each drum is on it’s own separate MIDI channel. I really don’t get Yamaha’s logic on this one. Except maybe for some dubious internal routing choices. They were MIDI pioneers and now they do this! I have an advanced MIDI (DIN cable based) patch bay/processor, the MIDITEMP MT16X, that can split/distribute the input signal to the channels of your choice. I’m sure there are newer (and cheaper) alternatives. Working in the garden, it struck me: Why not make a MIDI-channel-splitter-rerouter-for-the Yamaha-Seqtrack. Small box, no power needed, like the Anatek Pocket Pedals. I would buy one😎 Any takers? I also have a slight problem reading the grey text on the black buttons, (I like Black) when they're not lit up. Just thought this was good to know, before pulling the trigger on this one, Otherwise I'm, so far, very happy with my unit.
Nice demo! I have plugins from UAD, Komplete 14, and the Izotope Music Production Suite 6. I watched your video on Nectar 4 as well. Do you have an opinion on how the Arturia FXs compare to Izotope?
Great video! Don't underestimate your original vocal chain and plugins - well done. I have Nectar 4 advance and I'm struggling with 'Backer' and 'Voices' to find something good quality sounding. Both those modules seem to introduce noise and artifacts that I don't really want. I can tame them them with RX, but that's like going around in circles. The robotic, vocoder, distortion FXs are interesting, but similar to Izotope VocalSynth - so I wonder if 'Backer' is just the same code? I had higher expectations for the voices harmonies.
Excellent video. Really sold me when you showed you can play music off your phone through the Astrolab...
Can we sample outside instrument into it and make a live performance/loop? If you know maybe. KOII works, you can play and loop external synth, but with Seqtrak, Im just not sure its doable
It sounded similar to your mix, but the vocals felt a bit too compressed. There was like 0 dynamic in her voice. Your mix sounded waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better!
Hey, I have a similar gut feeling:) Thanks, it is nice too hear, However I remember I worked on the original mix much longer than on the Nectar version, but I guess smoother sounding saturation and more soothe made a bit more musical
@@PoloTremolo yeah i guess nectar would be perfect for demos if you need like a quick mix.
awesome review! very in depth and offering history of this line of speakers. Perfect video for newbies and someone buying their first speakers
How can you have/play a different instrument without interfering with the one on the previous sequence, for example a kick?
Thanks for the video👍🏻
Ah these sound awesome NGL 😅 More plugins to the arsenal
$1k is too expensive. I'd buy it for $600 to $800, but $1k is too much.
AI took over. The whole music industry is f*****.
People will actually tell a story in their music instead of singing about dumb things.
Nah. Only if you produce common music.
@@houdinididiit Facts, he should stop singing about the sun and he'll be good.
Very nice video and explanation. We have quite a few of these now, I wonder how the original The Glue stacks up.
Does it come with presets?
Actually I remember I looked for some presets and didn't find any, and I thought maybe it was pre-release version that didn't have any, but forgot to ask about it;) Good question though. Unfotunately I won't be able to check it within next days. But I don't think it is a problem, the truth is you have to tweak it extensively for each source and it don't take long. Most DAWS will allow for saving some track/rack presets anyway
I got the Krk g5 8 no hissing sound at all no eq setting adjustments just left mines on flatline love em
Can you correctly explain how to use the side-chaining feature of the arp2600? For example: playing my guitar through the Arp2600? No one has yet to explain this. Id appreciate it if you could give a very basic demo 🙏🏻
Finally I'm getting the idea of the Arturia AstroLab, being an Arturia stage synthesizer/keyboard for live performers. Like Arturia software as hardware. And finally a keyboard with aftertouch. Nice, I like it. 🙂👍 There has to be a black version one day. 😎
great video! thank you
I also always considered the headphone output impedance source when selecting a headphone to use ( not having a headphone amplifier that can drive different ohms loud enough )
where to buy n download....cant find in Arturia website....or just dont know how..... reviewers go on and on telling what it is.... but forgot the begginners are in another dimension while they speak........ beginners are the ones wil giv u the support....
No. Beginners make you lose time with pretty obvious things. You can’t be serious if you say you can’t find the Arturia V Collection… just use something called google.
Would you recommend the Generation 5 or Yamaha HS?
Don't really know who he is but you can tell he is in it for the music and I love to hear people talk this way. It's like taking a warm bath. Thanks.
He is one of the best if not the best mastering engineer in the World.
What’s your main keyboard at 11:20 ? The one with leds all along ?
I believe thats the Native Instruments Komplete S88 MK2. I believe it is now discontinued. The new version, the MK3 is about $1200 I believe
wtf how cool is this
What is the delay on your version?
Thats a sick italo disco beat there mister :D
So did you buy or get it sent to you? It's not clear and I want to take your video seriously - but that's hard to do when it's not clear if you purchased it or have a "reviewers gift."
How did you get the vocoder working? I couldn’t find instructions
I have R5G4 + S8.4 (fronts on foam, sub on pucks). Very satisfied, not going to buy new ones. Thanks for comparison.
Thanks for the explanation! and the video! I'm in doubt between G4 and G5, and you was answer my mind questions! Thanks!
Perfect review, I didn’t know these existed until tonight. Was looking for a good review and I definitely found it! Edit… I just want to add that I read when speaker manufacturers make a speaker it’s usually the 8” model that is designed first and other sizes are subsequent designs. Edit just bought my pair of Rokit 8” gen5 based on this review, thanks! On route.
