    Why was the 1 seed playing the 3 seed in the semi finals?

    • @LogicallyMinded94
      @LogicallyMinded94 Před 4 lety

      Because the semifinals are comprised of 4 matches. Essentially, the draw is separated by two parts the top and bottom, where the 1# & #2 seeds are split apart. This means that the higher the seeding protects you from playing higher ranked opponents earlier on, however as the tournament progresses you are likely going to have to face a higher seed. Thus, if you are ranked #3 or #4 only in the semifinals could you face the #1 or #2 players. Because your ranking, falling outside of the top 2 places prevents you from facing a higher ranked opponent prior to the final.

    Capriati was a really good player, but no matter how many times I watch her I cannot get over how terrible her footwork was. Always so off balance after every stroke, particularly with the backhand.

    This was an amazing match which still looks like a power fest even today. Serena in 2002, or Serena in about 2015? Which Serena was better? Her movement was much better in 2002, that's easy. Her serve better in 2015, although it was a huge weapon even back then. In 2002 she was even more aggressive from the baseline than now, but she made more unforced errors. I'd narrowly go with Serena in 2002.

    • @RaphaelBas1995
      @RaphaelBas1995 Před 5 lety

      Tom Graham I would say Serena from 2013. She won eleven tournaments that year, including two Slams, her movement was better than in 2015, and she was undefeated on clay, her worst surface.

    Capriati during that time had the same power. It was power against power, which I love them both. It was always a pleasure with these two, when Jennifer came back she had bulked up as well, never understood and understand now why they give Serena such a rough time You work on your body you earn it both beautiful woman here.

    Capriati was a great rival for Serena because Serena lacked experience. But when she gained more...she tore Capriati up for some years. That was until umpires and shit starting cheating Venus and Serena like crazy. Don't start with the "oh everything isn't racist or they weren't cheated" bullshit. They BOTH were cheated. Venus was cheated horribly at Wimby 2004 when a damn umpire took an entire point from her during a tiebreak causing her to lose the match. Don't even get me started on how officials and players started cheating Serena. The truth is that tennis was afraid of the sisters dominating like they did in 2002-2003, so officials and players were ALLOWED to cheat them without consequence. I lost all respect for playrs like Henin and Capriati who both didn't have enough integrity to not cheat Serena personally (Henin) and not benefit from an official cheating your opponent (Capriati). I'm glad both of them ended their careers on negative notes. Henin had no respect from her peers and even had to admit in an interview that she did willingly cheat Serena and Capriati never won a match after she didn't speak up in 2004 when the official basically handed her the match against Serena. Karma served them well. AND Serena was the player who sent Justine's disgusting self back into retirement denying her another slam.

      @tenisfin Před 5 lety

      Capriati was not regarded as a thoughtful tennis player, but with Serena, she eventually opted to keep putting balls back, knowing that Serena would become impatient and commit errors. It was an effective plan, obviously.

    It's still absolutely incredible to think that in this match we were witnessing Serena finally finding the solution to that nagging inability to close out big matches. She said it so simply that she was "just tired of losing...life was passing me by" She wasn't tired, she was PISSED! Jesus that power....and she's beaten the shit out of everybody from this match to when she took a break to have her child a year or so ago. That is dominance.

    I remember all too well how Serena's inexperience at closing out her matches vs players like Capriati cost her big wins early in her career. Like everyone who, hopefully, learns from their mistakes (& in the case of athletes) & their loses, Serena's game matured. I believe early in their rivalry, Jennifer won 3 or 4 str8 tough matches vs Serena that I thought Serena could've & maybe should've won. But her inexperience showed. This was one of those tight matches Serena pulled out & she then later won 5 or 6 str8 matches vs Jennifer. There are many things I love about Serena Williams & her tennis career. One of those things I love is Serena has had a few great rivalries. Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin, Venus, Jennifer Capriati, Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka & now this new crop of good tennis players have all had entertaining, competitive matches & rivalries vs Serena Williams. Part of the reason is because they all were/are great players & the other part is Serena Williams. She is & has been so amazing & so great for women's tennis & tennis, period. Whether her critics & haters want to give her credit now doesn't matter. They will. They are. Because even if they root against her, they're still rooting for women's tennis & in essence, they're rooting for Serena Williams whether they know it or not & whether they want to now or not.

      MrKoval92 I am SO tired of reading ignorant stupid comments about Serena Williams & her style of tennis being power body building style tennis when we ALL know Serena is Not the 1st female tennis player to hit the ball hard. Its sports, for Pete's sake. And I'm tired of reading insane comments about Serena being big & people like you are missing feminine tennis player's bodies like Aggie Radwanska. Serena Williams is an athlete just like Radwanska. Its rude & sad that I'm still constantly reading sick comments about her body. Serena's a Champion, have a tiny bit of respect. Serena's earned it & she's brought millions more people to the sport who wouldn't care otherwise. Why can't people like you Stop the Hate, jealousy, nasty rude comments about Serena's body, playing style or anything negative. It's time for all of you Haters to stop the Hate, sexism, racism, evil, negativity & etc. I'm so sick & tired of all of it. It really disgusts me, especially when it comes from Americans. We all should be supporting Serena Williams.

  • @jbobbster
    @jbobbster Před 11 lety

    This match right here is a prime example of why the Williams sisters were simply better than Capriati. They were mentally stronger. Capriati broke Serena 3 times in the first set, and had a chance to serve it out. Serena broke back each time, and won the set. Capriati had 2 chances to serve out the second set. Serena broke back each time, and saved 7 set points. A year earlier against Venus, she served for the match twice, and had 8 MPs. Venus broke back each time, and eventually won.

    Everybody's entitled to their opinions, but Justin henin never dominated the tennis whereas serena williams dominated tennis (women) in the last decade. that despite her fitness, illness and family problems. To those who says Henin is more technical you just stating your opinions rather than facts. Henin has sublime backhand, serena has sublime forehand, they're both good a drop shots although serena decreasingly use of that. they both good at spinning the ball, or changing the pace.
