NBC Reporter with hidden camera in purse refuses official press credentials hoping to catch conference attendees committing to crimes (according to Defcon staff). She ends up fleeing Defcon 15 after being outed on stage. Video shot by Elizabeth Safran.

+MrFuckUp She was there to secretly catch dumb kids over exaggerating what they can do, not only potentially ruining the lives of those kids who had yet to find their right paths in life, but also to add to the fear, uncertainty and doubt of the information security industry. That group of hackers, the ones showing up to and participating in that event, are the people who have been donating their lives to help secure entire industries and help keep some semblance of personal privacy and security in this ever changing world of information and technology. She was part of the old guard of reporting, and while it still has a long way to go, over these last 9 years it has been great to see an increasing percentage of reporters and journalists embracing this once underground industry and attempting to show it in the positive light that it deserves.
The person holding the camera while the people escorting her away from the con that were "harassing" her is a woman.

This was great. But, some of the people filming her should have been relentlessly asking her questions. Total turn of the tables. What she was doing was highly dishonest so she got what she deserved.

They aren't the same hackers that do that. The ones that do Defcon are "White Hat" or good hackers. They are the ones business use to find and fix security issues with their IT structure. They do not hack sites and steal information or do all the bad things you hear.

@xinic5 Sorry it's been 2 years since I replied. Saying you don't agree with hacking is like saying you don't agree with Driving. Just because someone chooses to drive poorly doesn't mean all driving is poor or that you should even dislike driving because X number of people drive poorly. There are plenty of people who follow the rules and drive safely. Hacking can be viewed in the same light, not all hacking is bad.
It is kind of funny hearing all of these computer guys out of breath after such a short walk.
