How To Use the IFF in the F-4E Phantom | DCS World
Today in the DCS F-4 we look at how to work with the IFF system onboard the jet, and how to use it to identify friendly aircraft. This is a very useful feature of the F-4 and definitely helps prevent friendly fire incidents, especially in multiplayer environments.

An Oil Cart, an Aircraft Tug, and a CH-46 Walk into a Bar... | F-4 Phantom
zhlédnutí 3,3KPřed 9 hodinami
Today we take care of a cantankerous oil cart, a tug that won't stop, and pay a quick visit to the CH-46 hangar. There's almost always something to take care of at the hangar, so when Crew Chief Al isn't available, I start wrenching on other things. Thank you all again for your continued interest in what we do here at the airfield, as well as the DCS content I do. The recent milestone of 10,000...
The Sweet Sound of a J79! | F-4 Phantom
zhlédnutí 75KPřed dnem
We were able to do it today! We were able to start up engine #2! Ran into some leaks along the way, though were able to bleed some air out of PC2 and the Utility hydraulic systems. We were not able to start engine #1 due to that one deciding to have a fuel leak upon one of the final checks prior to startup (that side didn't leak in any prior checks). Hope you all enjoy the wonderful sound of th...

FOD Fishing | F-4 Phantom
zhlédnutí 2,8KPřed měsícem
Today we are making more progress toward running the engines. That means we have to do a thorough check for any FOD (foreign objects) everywhere we have worked. One way to do that is a borescope camera which can get into tight spaces that are hard to check with just a flashlight and a mirror. Also had to deal with a tug that wouldn't start. For those of you that are on Instagram, check out Jack...
First Look at AVA, Thrustmaster's New Joystick Base!

Today we look at the new AVA joystick base from Thrustmaster! This base is a very nice upgrade from the Warthog base, or as a standalone joystick base. It is compatible with both grips from the Warthog, the Hornet grip and the Warthog/Viper grip. While the Warthog is a very good stick, and one I've used for a few years now, the AVA takes it even further with how it feels as you fly in simulatio...

F-4E Electrical and Lighting Systems | DCS World

In today's DCS video, we explore the electrical and lighting systems in the F-4 Phantom. As with many things in the Phantom, things can get quite complicated, and this should help make more sense out of both the electrical and lighting systems. If you are wondering why I did not include lighting in the WSO cockpit, it is not because I forgot about it. Lighting in the backseat is identical to th...

Gotta` love them rhinos.
Thanks for the memories! F106 Crew Chief '76-'77. Went to Korea summer of' 77 and worked F4 C's & D's. Did Cope Thunder in P. I. @ Clark AB twice. Then finished up on F105 F&G's at George AB. We were still using cart start on the F105 and we would get all the cartridges just before they ran out of shelf life. Many a false start, and then when you pull the cartridge out it would light off. Some kinda memories.
Love the F4 rather simple to fly as long as you listen to all the querks or she would kick back at ya once you and your reo and the galent gal would become one . Some one has to restore a tomcat F14 another great plane much like the F4 . Nice job guys. Try a Vinton pressure seal.
One of my favorite plains!
If this is the start-up procedure/process, what was it like on a damn carrier! 👍👍
Phantom Phxyer for Life. Crewed F4D's and RF-4C for 17 yrs. Love the aircraft. No other sound like the F4.
I wonder if this is the same f4 I saw fly in Michigan in 2010. A real beauty she was
TSgt/43171/engine run qualified here, worked D, E and G models at George and Torrejon '78 to '84. Good thing QA wasn't around - no fire bottle to be seen, main wheels chocked only on one side, etc. etc.! But I haven't heard a -60 spool up in about 40 years, that was great. It was tough seeing these beautiful birds being converted to drones at Mojave, breaks my heart. Good work guys, keep this thing flying!
IFF stands for Information friend or foe
I'll have to plan on getting out to you guys sometime. My service and aviation history started with OH-58 maintenance/crewchief and went on to get experience on several different helicopters. Anything flying is cool to me, really enjoy your content.
Just a note, the FW190D in the sim should powered by a Junkers Jumo 213. There was one prototype with the DB603 engine, but not the 605. Tip for flying any taildragger: At low speed use full aft stick on the takeoff roll to push the tail into the ground. Once you get enough airspeed you can push the stick forward to get the tail up while you build up speed. Then let it lift off the ground.
That job reminds me of getting hanger queens back up and running! Stick with it boys!
I stood next to these guys on the catapult in full afterburner. My teeth literally rattled in my head. Wonderful memories.
I lovethe f4
We called this the flying rock. It proved with enough engine power anything could fly. Clark AFB Philippines mid 80s.
That Dash 60 comment you made brought back old memories for me of ChuLai,RVN, 1965 VMA 225(Vagabounds) A4 s. Semper Fi
That is sooooo beautiful to see!!
Outstanding.
I wish they would add the version of the spit that had 4 20mm hispanos and no .303s
In the last century, I worked comm/nav on F-4Ds. The AN/APX-76 was the mode 4 system, somewhat unreliable in my experience. Delicate little coax connectors that hooked into the radar package and would often get pulled apart when the radar was slid out for maintenance.
For realism (or to prepare for the wildly outlandish moment when ED adopts Galinette's IFF), you shouldnt have mode 4 on until you hop the fence. Mode 4 responds to an interrogation matching the code of the day (A or B), otherwise it stays silent. The older modes will answer any interrogator however, since they have become civilian standards and dont have the behaviour of mode 4. That makes you eminently conspicuous to anyone who asks. So when flying in friendly airspace, civilian modes (1 3 3/A, C) ON and mode 4 OFF, and at the fence reverse the selection.
I love that ol' bird.
How did you pressurize the fuel system with no engines running? An engine needs to run up to 80% to pressurize the fuel system. I was in VF-96 back when joining the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club was a thing as a flight line troubleshooter with our F-4J's.
My uncle Russell flew F-4 during Vietnam 68 into 69 he later went on fly F-15s but always add a soft spot for the F-4 aka the brick or double ugly but it take a lot of punishment and stay in the air he showed me a couple pictures with 3 ft diameter holes in the port wing and Part of the horizontal stabilizer gone and itstill got him and his rio home I sure Miss him as he died in a motorcycle accident 12 years ago but he was quite the character
is this plane air worthy or just able to start and run it on the ground
Airworthy, and is the only one in the U.S. that is. We're working to complete the inspection on her so she can return to the sky!
I grew up around these, the 03:00 scramble out of Macdill. The struggled fly over in front of a storm from and a aborted landed leaving them no choice but to trail their chute on a go around. The dual air craft take off. the orbiting circle for take off headed to the range at Avaon park and then the return orbit and 180 skids to get turned around to head to final approach. I once got my hands on a chute that was dropped in front a horriffic thunderstorm from a failed landing and chute arrest. I was even there the day the idiot thought it would be cute to pull the ejection lever while people where leaving the airshow. Think it was the same year that the F117 was just three wheels on the ground making you believe the aircraft was invisible. And yes I got to walk under a B1
I always wanted to see and know more about the Collins Foundation and how they cared for their legend of an aircraft. Great video. Keep making more. Maybe one like a prep before leaving for an Air Show.
Phrogs forever!
Wow. Just did the conversion. 8800lbs/hr per engine is 5108L of jet fuel per hour total (given jet fuel at average SG of 0.78). Now double that because he mentioned two engines! Internal fuel capacity of the F-4 Phantom is 12,276L. 15,000L with external tanks. Wow! That is 11.7 metric tons of fuel alone. So wow. You can blast around for a couple hrs and then get the fuck home on one fill up? I doubt the aircraft could get off the ground with full armaments and fuel. Good thing they have flying gas stations. And I thought my Chevy Silverado was a little high.
I should also say I am no aircraft expert of any sort. I just looked up a few facts, did some extrapolation, and have a fascination of military aircraft. Just the shear power of the engines in one of those!. The SR-71 is my all time fav!
Guys you are doing a good job!
*Keep this fantastic birds flying, guys!* - What ever it takes!
Wow that’s really cool 😎 thanks 🙏🏻 so much for sharing
We need more of these!
Did you “get your tug” prior to driving the golf cart?
Who's selling Phrogs out there?
Brings back some fond memories from my early years in the Air force working the alert area when we had a sramble, love that F4.
Not quite the proper high power ramp. But itll do.
I saw 3 CH-46s on flatbeds in Mt. Joy, PA
How much $ would it take to get a ride in the F-4?
No better sound than the F-4's out in the 526th starting up on a cool foggy morning at Ramstein.
