shame the climate-trash scam got a mention.....
Fabulous. In Dublin we had Leyland double deckers, the R class were older and had a small bonnet and mud guard, the RA class had the full width bonnet. All versions had a hinged drivers door, unlike the sliding door on Routemasters. Apparently not all that easy to drive. I think the early eighties saw the last of these lovely buses in Dublin, replaced of course by rear engined buses (with power steering of course) Wonderful memories going into Dublin city centre on these lovely vehicles. Thanks for that most interesting video.
Hi John, thanks for your positive comments, glad it brought back some happy memories, all the best.
The AI narration is jarring. Otherwise, beautiful video. I like the music and shots.
Thanks, Zanderguard, for your comments, glad you enjoyed the journey, all the best
You know you’re a nerd when you can identify a Bullied Pacific by the back end of the tender.
Lived in Eastbourne many years ago. Anyone remember the Hunting Lodge or the Dixieland Show Bar on the pier?(looks like it's just a shell now).
Loved the film but why the music that overpowered the narration.
Thanks, John for your comment, working on a new comprehensive version, all the best.
@@chrisconil Unfortunately its quite common and very distracting.
The old buses and coaches pre 1980 certainly had character
Thanks for your comment, yes those were the days when traveling was an adventure.
The Gent who remembers the open top service from Hampden Park to Eastbourne Seafront, I remember them too ! Service 8 which was seasonal. The main seafront service was the service 6 & 6A, but there was a very short lived service 3A too, this ran between Old Town - Cherry Garden Road, and Langney Roundabout. At the time I remember the open top services, were operated by pre-war Leyland Titan TD4's & a TD5, all with Leyland bodies and AEC Regents with Northern Counties bodies. All Eastbourne's pre-war buses were originally fitted with Petrol Engines and some with Torque Converter (Gearless) Transmission too. After the war there was a change of policy at the Corporation and all future buses were fitted with standard Oil Engines. Those pre-war buses converted to open top, had their engines and Transmissions replaced with mainly 8.6 Litre Oil Engines and four speed 'crash' gearboxes from withdrawn Southdown vehicles, as and when they became available. Even some of the AEC's were fitted with the same. Making an AEC Regent, sound like a Leyland TD. One of the AEC's was fitted with a 7.7 Litre AEC Oil Engine, and another fitted with a 7.4 Litre Leyland E181 Oil Engine (the same type fitted to the PD1 as standard). These buses were all eventually replaced with open-top converted post war Leyland PD1's. These, too, were eventually replaced, dates unknown.
Thanks for your very informative comments, all part of a life long gone, but remembered, enjoy the journey, cheers

It was a Ford Capri not Vauxhall Cresta as on your commentary
@@terryrobinson7371 Thanks Terry, the memory is going, all the best.
Such a beautiful AEC - so musical!
Thanks, Robert, glad you enjoy the memory
Very informative and well researched. All people who live in Seaford must have stood at that viewing area and wall at some point. There is a book called Bygone Seaford by John Odam (1990), that anyone who enjoyed this may also find interesting.
Thank you Chris, for your positive comments, moments in time, and cherished.
Such a beautiful song! 😊🎶
So beautiful!
Thanks Julia, for your positive comments.
Really interesting, thanks for posting this. I moved here just a few months before the hurricane but do remember Seaford beach with the huge drop from the promenade.
Great video. I wasn't aware of the scale of work in the past and present to hold back the sea at Seaford.
Thanks, James, constant activity to protect our shores, has a cost.
Interesting video.
The digger would work more efficiently without the teeth. Nice job.
Thanks for your comments, onwards and beyond.
It is a beautiful film and song, so memorable. Please record the song Chris.
Thanks, Patti, this is the preamble to the documentary about smuggling called The Ale House'' coming soon. Take care, Best wishes Chris
You have caught the whiff of the cinema ticket, as it is torn off, and so have evoked the Proustian lost time, gathering up the ingredients of the past, and serving them up as a feast for all to enjoy. Precious footage of community and of belonging.
Many thanks, Chris for your uplifting and positive comments, memories of a time long gone, but there is still hope.
Very sad. What a beautiful building.
Thank you Glenyshorton for your comment, those were the days.
Amazing. Was looking to buy the new 1 Cricketfield recently and missed out.
I always wondered why the remains of a wall were there.
Thanks for your comment, the wall still remains even thought the occupants have long gone.
This is an excellent film and brings back sor many memories. As youngsters we used to call ithe house 'The "Red. House on The Hill above Splah Point' for what reason possibly because of the Red Wall that bounded the house. I usd to take daily news papers to the house when I delivered for eithe Winsers or the the paper shop down by MacFisheries down the bottom of the highstreet. I have many Seaford books one of which one is 'The House on the Hill'. Thank you for sharing the film which brings back so many memories.
Thank you for your nice comment, I am glad it brought back happy memories of times spent in Seaford, tell your friends, that Seaford is still a vibrant place to live.
Thoroughly interesting and enjoyable.
Many thanks for your positive comment, have a nice day. Chris

Honestly, on the edge of my seat throughout, great story, music and actors..... until i hit @3:22, I'm not even sure the chubby kid on far right is even a pirate, dare i say, he might actually be faking it. 2/10 because of the reasons stated above.
Thanks for your comments, this was made some time ago but still has resonance. enjoy the moment. Chris

Thank you Cannadine Boxill-Harris for your VERY extended comment, life was much better back then, you got to speak to a conductor. Have fun
Great video spoilt by the ruddy 'music'.
Thanks for your comments have a cool day.
Hjhjh
I love this , but you need to re-edit the sound for tv, the music is far too loud and the speech too soft , works ok on my iPhone but watching on my tv now and its really awful
Thank you James for your comment, will look at it again for ref. all the best

Thanks, Nigel, for your positive comment.

They were dressed well and very stylish. I love the well built old stream trains with their comfy seats and compartments.
Many thanks for your comment, wishing you a Happy New Year, let's hope wisdom prevails.
❤Claire ❤️ - thank you for this Chris 👌
At least the Developers walked away in the end. I've knocked around a few seaside towns, I don't think many have lost as many of the seafront buildings as Seaford has.
Thanks Patrick, we do need to invest in upgrading, natural is fine but one day the storm of all storms will take it away. Have a nice day
I found this absolutely fascinating!! I grew up in around Seaford before moving away. But I spent alot of my time along the beach of tidemills along to seaford head and cuckmere. I always thought the wall was for some sort of protection against the weather or the sea, so I'm glad you shared this video, it was also nice to see Seaford before it's current day. Kind regards, Craig
Many thanks Craig for sharing your memories of Seaford, so pleased you enjoyed the journey, good luck.
I really enjoyed this - so lovely to see Seaford back in the old days - and the old Martello Tower that I remember fondly was there. I grew up in Seaford and remember my mother telling me that my aunt had her wedding reception at the hotel, and that it had burned down. So I was sure that when they were talking about putting a hurricane lamp in one of the porthole windows, that was what started the fire! Interesting to hear the correct history of the hotel and lovely to see "old Seaford." Thank you!
Thanks Nina, Interesting to know your aunt had her wedding reception there, I would have loved to interview her story. all the best
Grew up in Seaford, great little documentary very interesting 👍🏻

Hi John, thanks for watching, let's hope we learn from the actions of the past to benefit all. take care
Thoroughly enjoyed this - clearly made with much affection for Seaford and it's history - thanks
