I travelled to UK to attend my sister's 80th birthday party and surprised here with this song. The mistakes make it more amusing. Made famous in 1957 by Harry Belafonte.

Penned in the 1800's by author unknown this has been a popular folk song for many years. Bob Dylan recorded it. It relates to the boats that sailed from Peterhead in North East Scotland. Whalers operated for around 100 years until around 1890 when the industry ended due to the whales having been almost wiped out.

A short 3 minute video showing the remains of the lively bar area in Ermita, Manila. The bars were closed down one by one, circa 1990, by the Mayor, the late Alfredo Lim. He threw thousands out of work and the former premises remained derelict for years afterwards.

This was recorded last Saturday 30/9/23 at my regular Saturday gig at Barbarino's resto, Angeles City, Philippines. Co-singer is Angie, long time friend and staff. The song was made famous by Harry Belafonte in 1960.

This was recorded in Carnegies bar, Hong Kong circa 2002, just before I left HK to live in the Philippines. The "Henries" performed for 15 years and this is the final line up. Since then I have gone back to weekly solo gigs. I opened Carnegies bar in 1994 with partners John and Rowland Hastings. We sold it circa 2015 and same for our outlets in Taiwan and Australia. I have been performing for 66 years. This was taken at my regular Saturday gig in Angeles City, Philippine. I have lived there for 21 years. My school pal Ivor Davies had the Marty Robbins LP and I always aspired to learn this great song.

I was in Hong Kong for a few days and managed to watch the Coronation in 'real time' on TV in a pub. I also saw the 1953 wedding live on TV - not many can say that. We had a small black and white screen.

Good hash day out. Run No 2297. We had a group of around 20 visiting hashers from Penang, Malaysia. I ran with the Penang hash there in 1982 when I was on vacation.

In his second go around as mayor, Lim closed the Baywalk bars and restos which were very popular and economically successful in 2009. They replaced that with Dolomite Beach which is made from a toxic mineral and is eventually going to end up in the bay when another typhoon blows in from the west. These Filipino pols sure know how to screw up a good thing.

Thanks Howard. That's started my day with a smile, and brought back some lovely memories of when I was a young boy, listening and laughing to the original being played on my parents' Dansette gramophone - remember them ? - while Mum was busy as usual in the kitchen. She passed away just a few months ago, but this stirs another happy memory for me.

I was there at the end of 1994 , It brings back a lot of memories , the Birds of Paradise at end of video looking up at some of the girls, one in the middle I got to know very well , across the road was DMZ first bar I ever had a bintang in about 2 am in the morning we arrived after checking in to American Hotel .
