Hi Eric. Nice shave. I like these one pass shavers 🙂 Like you're saying: the stink and the break in period are things I dislike about natural hair brushes. Have a nice weekend
Big boy was keen and kind. I was not expecting that. Thanks for watching
👍 Ah, fresh boar. A most glorious stank. 😂
Could not do it tonight. As many natural brush’s that I have, none that the rank and disgusting smell of black boar. I guess I should have thought it thru a little better.
Woah 12/8! Nice shave cajun
That Yuri is a beast! Glad you enjoyed Amber & Spice! Funny we both did videos using a Bismarck😂
For the price, Bismarck is an incredible saver. The Soap and Splash was excellent
Nice job Eric. Great shave🪒
Thank Gary, it was fun. 🤩
What a monster that 12/8! One stroke half the shave was already done hehe awesome work with those lightsabers my friend
It’s a little most razor than I am accustomed to. Like shaving with hatchet. You will see soon enough
The Cajun blade! My friend you are a master of the honing art! 🖼️ I look forward to shaving with them! The brush is awesome brother!
Thanks, I hope you enjoy them
You've done a great job Eric on the edge nick removal on the massive Yuri 👏 ( just watched the video ) your Dovo replacement scales are stunning 😍....i think your stinky natural brushes boost your testosterone levels 😂. Thats amazing stubble in 3 days , 4 days is my maximum derilect hobo stubble 😅. I love big blades to shave with 13/8 Gipson is my largest... i desperately need a cajun blade brush to boost my testosterone too ! ( Aouda would be grateful 🙏) wonderful exciting 4 razor shave. Your a true renaissance man ! 🎉😶🌫️
It was an experience for sure. My stinky brush was a mother 🥴. It will take some breaking on, it may have removed some skin 😳. Thanks for watching.
@BigEShaves Eric please sometime send me the metal ( or whatever ? It is ) Named base plate to your brush , I'll fit it to a synthetic brush . I'd love to promote by utube your brushes, but not the stinky course ones 😉 )
@@Martins-Shaves123 Next time we smuggle soap!
@@BigEShaves most definitely. But a cajun blade brush is essential 👌
Nice one Eric, celebrated Friday with a lb of crayfish..mmmm..
Nice work on that one. 👍
Thanks Bill, looking forward to you next one.
Hi Eric. Great honing. I noticed you do not check the edge with the loop very frequently. You have more of a feel approach which is great. Have a good Friday. Thanks for sharing
Thanks did watching. I do check with a loop, I am just not overly obsessed with it or a scope. I do check at the end of my process, before the strop and shave.
That thing is a monster
You know it, like shaving with a hatchet,
Man I missed your videos Eric! Great honing, I agree with you the diamond plate 400 is too aggressive and can leave deeper scratches than what a typical whetstone would. I try to avoid the 400 now, messed up too many razors trying to "backbevel" with it hehe but for knives I enjoy it.
Glad you liked it, your video today was excellent
Great ASMR honing video!
I’m surprised he had those issues with that razor so soon.
It is what it is.
@@BigEShaves What matters is it’s fixed.
Yuri's huge 1000 is a gorgeous shape but to me hideous in black and splodge copper, but each to his own . Tape obviously an essential with a black spine ( although a nice silver hone line would only improve the funeral black 😅) Those edge chips, if severe, I'd bread knife the edge then set the bevel. Must be bad to go to diamond 💎 plate . I love 1k diamond plate , saves a lot of time straight after 400 diamond . ( For heavy nicks tape and diamond plate is a must💎 ) lovely blade 12/8, I'd guess . Nice to see you count , as I do ,with plenty of muscle 💪 😊.
Man that sucks, getting a new razor and then get chips in the edge. It is good to have someone who can help out. I just started some regrinding on some of my most damaged razors, and I now have a new appreciation for razor grinders and finishers. It is a lot of work. I am spending more time making the right radius for the different grinds. It makes is more difficult if you do not have the right tools. What a rabbit hole. Thanks for sharing.
Yurri has some hard steel. Can be a bear to reset the bevel.
I got a headache and was watching videos to chill out and had to turn it down when you pulled out that 400😂
Beautiful! Need to see them in a honing video
😂 I don't know what they are , but love to see them flattened and ready !
Me 2 haha
They are the 3 variety of Vermont Slate. Purple, Molted and Grey
@@BigEShaves all slates are nice 👌
Awesome shave! Have to get the youngsters into the hobby for sure!
Thanks for watching and commenting. We need to get younger and pass on this fun and rewarding hobby.
Fantastic scenery behind you, nice shave, you made it look easy but I know better.🪒
Thanks Gary, it was a challenge for sure.
Dark web stuff for the after shave hehehehe
I survived, I am safe, thanks for your concern 🥴😜
I’ll give it a go when I next pull out my Coticule. 👍🏻
Excellent video sir. Honing is definitely theraputic and then some. I can't tell you how many bad days I've had that gotten brightened up just by honing a couple of razors.
One must admit that coticule honing is therapeutic.
It’s like a mental massage.
Before filming reverse the camera image in settings so the viewing is not back to front, if Martin can do it so can you! 👍
I am no camera man or producer, I hone razors. I probably should have did more practicing with the camera settings. It’s very much a work in process. In some the more recent videos I figured this issue out. Appreciate the constructive criticism.
beautiful movie
Thank you, we had a great time. Weather was great.
The best! ASMR goodness
So, once it starts getting sticky on the second stone you used oil(soap) instead of stopping at sticky. That’s exactly what I started doing a while ago. Man, you really put a ton of work into that edge. I bet it was a fantastic shave.
It works for me, on all my coticules. It sucked when I realized I was leaving so much on the table with running water, sticky finish. In this case I had a chip so it was a full bevel set and finish. I knew I had plenty of work to do. The sharpy mark on the show side hollowed was the location of the chip. The hone went well, chip gone. Banging hairs at 50 paces.
I have not used it yet. That is tonight 🤩
Thanks 😊
Thank you for the sub and watching my channel
I experimented with the running water as well and ended up using the same method. The water would only get the edge so far but not far enough. But just water could damage the edge so I found adding lubricant helped save the edge and take it further. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your videos.
Hand soap my favorite. Dish soap gets too sticky, glycerin gets too sticky, oil is a mess. My regular on a coti finish is 1/3 glycerin, 2/3 water, one good pump of dial hand soap. I think that the running water method popularized by a famous CZcams hone, only works for a hand full of coticules. Minimal finishing pressure, long laps and lube will open up just about every Coti. But that’s not a good marketing revelation. Gents will have a hard time excepting a Le Gris will perform the same or better than their rare vein coticule. Thanks for watching.
@@BigEShaves I am going to have to revisit my coticule with this method. I have done it before but I didn't push it enough. Thank you for the info.
Such informed comments, today ....I'd like to take my coticule finishing up another level , light pressure with lubricant I'll try , cheers Eric and gentlemen all 😊.
Hi Eric. Absolutely agree. It is a natural evolution to go back to straights. Have a good Friday
Great shave Eric. Yes I no longer fool with Gold Dollar razors because of the poor quality of steel used in addition to them being inconsistent. The last 4 of them that I bought either would not take any edge or if it did, the edge was gone right in the middle of the first shave. What kind of belt sander did you use to curve your stones with? And is there any chance we can see a video of that? Thanks, Stephen Davidson
I’m not home for another week so can’t get any video of it. I think my setup maybe in one of my scale making videos or maybe the one when I cut tomo. Using a belt sander can build some heat if not careful. I would refrain from recommending it, there is no second chances, it’s a risky operation. Yes every now and then the GD are garbage, I have about 10 that I use for testing that are ok’ish. Just had one today that was falling apart as I honed it, I hand long term stored it in the trash can.
Im new to the whole internet wet shaving world and Jnats. Been watching all your videos i have a couple small jnats I haven’t messed with yet is there a way to “test” my stones without a whole Nagura progression? Like after a 2k stone or 5k stone and the use jnat and water maybe start with dmt slurry and do hht or packing peanut or shaving test? In your opinion would that tell me anything i thought about using 2 gold dollars going 8k then water on jnat on one and compare. So long question but can a i test jnat stone without doing a full progression would it tell me anything?
My email is in my channel description, I may have some info for you. I don’t usually put my testing methods out to public. As you have seen in the SR world, it’s full of guys whose opinions that are always 💯 correct. I am not that guy, I know there are many ways to do this simple task we all enjoy. I rather spend my time with a relaxing hone than argue about the process. But yeah, enough rant. Shoot me an email and I will be happy to help in any way I can.
It seems that when I started there were a lot of guys showcasing Riga Razors. They sure do make handsome shave pieces.
Well; they not ugly, but handsome may be a stretch 😜. They shave really well, I like thick heavy grind. I may make new scales for this one.
I hate to be negative on your video but just advice you used the ren wax all wrong. One you don’t want to use your fingers you need to clean razor with cotton gloves on with they recommend ethanol something i use denat alcohol. If you touch the razor with your fingers then ren wax your trapping salt and finger oil under the wax and it will rust faster. Also you want to leave the first coat on for a while then buff then do a couple rounds of coat and buff.
You’re not being negative, appreciate the advice. I work away for a month at a time, so I started using to be over cautious. I have yet to have any issue. Now that you pointed this out I will do more research. If this is the case, I will never use Renwax again. Sometimes I over think it, no way I would go through that much effort and hassle to solve a problem I never had. Definitely sound like it’s not worth it. Thanks
@@BigEShaves no prob not a month but I travel a decent amount for work and sometimes fun as well I use renwax sometimes for peace of mind for prevention for when I forget or I’m a rush to shave and pack up my home climate where I’m at is humid but not nearly as bad as when I was closer to your climate when I was in Mississippi. They’ve actually done some research on renwax and I believe museums don’t use it anymore (also it’s easy to homemake) I still do it sometimes and I’ve never had a problem when used correctly I learned that the hard way as well but honestly it’s not worth the hassle and once it’s on it doesn’t come off except maybe on your face while you shave😂 and well on your stones microcrystalline embedded in your jnat. You can make a bees wax and or carunuba wax and oil protectant for long term storage (but then again that can spoil if too long term it’s a hard decision🤯) but typically new nice razors I may ren wax but the hassle and nothing like destroying an edge of a brand new blade or slicing skin trying to buff dried renwax off you forgot about from a couple hours ago😂 I’ve been using ballistol for years well decade and I’ve noticed my blued steel I use it on regularly has a nice new surface feeling but also I watched some oil testing competitions or whatever and 3n1 and frog lube won for rust prevention. It’s tough out here trying to protect expensive fine steel we get wet using in the most humid room in the house and honing on water stones from rust.
@@T33wh7 I have a pelican case that I use to store razors. I add some Amazon magic reusable dehumidifying thingamabobs 😜. I only take out a roll at a time as I am home. It’s worked well. 3-1 has always been my go too. I tried Renwax to try something non oil. Maybe I will feature my reusable Amazon things on a video, I do like them.
@@BigEShaves 😂 I typically will use the vci paper to wrap my razors in and I just ordered some frog lube paste to try out since you got me thinking about it. I need to setup a pelican like yours for my couple stones😂
@@T33wh7 I use ammo cans for stone storage. They stack up nice. I use those cheap foam floor pads from Harbor Freight, but then to the ID of the box and use between layers. I use VIC paper as well. Amazing how living in the swamp ass capital of the south you learn to get creative.

Thanks for the call out ....we do hold you responsible 😂
Thanks Marin but I still have time experimenting I want to do with the recipe. And there is no room for error with a Riga, like shaving with a Scottish Claymore. The Chaps had me concerned, but was able to survive the day without molestation.
I’m tossing out all my designer fragrances and looking for a bottle of Chaps…😂 Excellent shave!

I can wait, I was wondering when you would take the plunge. Good luck. 👍🏼
My girl looks at me weird when I’m giggling to myself watching a man shave and it’s usually when I’m watching a video from Leon as well haha great shave as always Eric! For a minute there I thought you were back home cheers and happy Sunday
Not yet. And old one I forgot I had not posted. Glad you got a chuckle.
It is painful to see a nice smile razor messed up. I have seen the rigarazors on ebay from time to time but always missed the chance to get one. One day. Attacked in the streets had me cracking up. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I really like my Rigas.
The Bismarck pearl is on the wishlist.. maybe I will get it as a birthday present this year..
It’s an underrated razor. Great grind and an easy hone. I enjoy mine, it’s a comfortable shaver
@@BigEShaves that's what I hope for 😃
Nice one.
It’s a cool stone. It basically don’t need a slurry stone. Use a little pressure and it self slurries. Lay off the pressure and it will stop slurring and polish like a top tier finisher. I have a load of coticules and it is definitely in a class by its self. It’s definitely found its forever home. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@BigEShaves I don't have that big inventory of stones, but I do like my coticules. So guess it's a special day when you find one you really like..
Thanks for sharing Eric.
Happy to, hope all is well. Thanks for following.
Hi Eric very nice hone video! I will get a hone stone from John June! Then can I start also with this part in Straight Shaves!
If you’re going to SR shave, it’s well worth learning to maintenance your own razors. Thanks for commenting, if I can help in any way let me know.
@@BigEShaves Thank you Eric! I've been shaving with straight razors for a while. I have a good teacher in John June and now I'm going to learn honing from him too. Stropping and shaving is pretty good! I've shaved about 50 times so far! But of course, if you see a straight shave from me and you see that it could be done better, then give me some tips!
