i got a one on it now i’m at state rn 😭
I gotta play this solo tommorow for 8th grade wish me luck 🫶🏻
What kind of mallets are these, I wonder!
Have to play this solo on may 1st.. as a 7th grader 😓😓 hoping i do well, i only just started playing four mallets
Im also learning this, and i know how challenging 4 mallets can be. Especially when you have to go fast with one hand. Its truly spetacular!
I use to love this piece and now I feel as if its so over played I just cannot stand it anymore
Does anyone know the classification of this solo?
I believe it’s probably a grade 4
We’ll layer but try to point your index finger more you have yours really curled in
Played sorry
Thanks. If I remember right, I was working on one study one summary at the same time and my hands were dying! So good catch on the technique.
I’m not finishing this in 2 weeks broooo
You’re so done😭😭
lol how’d it go
playing this piece this saturday hope i get a one 😅
I’m playing this solo this year and this video helped a ton. I’m even implementing some musicality from your version into mine. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Bro saved my life practicing my solo. Thank you 🙏
THE SONG IS FIRE
Playing this at solo and ensemble in 4 weeks and only know 3 lines
how'd it go?
would you consider playing rhythm song by paul smadbeck?
Hey can you please do mystic fire by Julie Davila? I love the videos
2:24
Have you played ghost garden?
My sister has and I love that song
This is my third year as a percussionist and I’ve embarked on the journey of learning this song Edit: I just learned 4 mallets at the end of last year
Awesome!
Thanks man, I was thinking about dynamic contrast for this, but couldn’t find what it would be.
Glad it helped
I am watching this while eating fries
😂
I have to perform this next week too
Can you play Nocturnal Dance by Jesse Monkman? I’m trying to learn the piece and always find your videos extremely useful
Unfortunately I don’t think I have time right now. If you’re interested in a 1:1 coaching I can fit that in. It would be more personal and I can directly answer your questions.
I wouldn’t recommend playing on the edge of the bar for normal notes, but for accidentals I sometimes do when the piece is pretty fast
Of course, but the edge of the bar on either rank of keys is a valid playing area. In fact, in Gene Koshinski’s concerto for marimba and choir you have to play one handed rolls on the edge on the white keys. So it’s definitely not a normal situation, but still acceptable to do.
@@POVMarimbaone of my favorite sneaky little tricks is playing on the edge of the bars (either manual) if i have a loud passage in the low end and i don’t want to damage the bars. last note of the first movement of klatzow’s 6 concert etudes for example. you could use balter greens on the low C as loud as you want and not damage anything. i would never tell my students though 😂
@@ElectricHamSteak YES! I love the Klatzow too! Maybe I’ll record it some day. But thanks for bringing that up.
@@POVMarimba go for it! there’s really not many solid HQ recordings out there aside from ji hye’s + the piece is slowly creeping into standard repertoire w/ uni students. i’d love to see more vids of more challenging repertoire like the psathas! i think i saw a comment that said you were working on khan variations? 👀
@@ElectricHamSteak yup! Probably finish it this summer
Can you do a master class over green run by mark ford
Can you do a master class over.this please
Sure. Give me a few days.
Why not right above the resonator?
Hey. Great question. Much like hitting the center of a drum, striking in the exact center of the bar produces a drier sound. Search up “marimba nodes” for more information.
There's something wrong here: this amazing cover is too short! I love it and there needs to be a full version 🤩
Hahaha. Thanks. This is actually the real xylophone part from the movie soundtrack.
nice. what mallets do you use?👍
In this video, it’s the wave wrap number 2 from marimba 1
@@POVMarimba oh nice. Thanks
can you give me the partitur?🥹👉🏻👈🏻
Sorry. You’ll need to buy it. Good luck on it!
Yo that’s cool
Hahaha. Thanks
I play in a bunch of orchestras, so this is really my regular job.
Anyone here for all state prep (California)
Nice. I’m in California.
1:58 (i need to practice this
All state?
did you ever play bonnie brae by mark ford? im learning it right now and would love to see a pov done on it
I did. Unfortunately I don’t have time to make a video of it right now. I’m preparing for two major auditions.
@@POVMarimba oh that sounds pretty cool actually
i really thought the song that i was learning was hard until i saw this
😂 there’s always another level 😂
Also, what are you learning now? 🧐
@@POVMarimba still learning kain lol, my lessons start back up next week so ill probably have it by then
i gotta learn this song soon but its probably the hardest ive done so far
Check out my masterclass on my channel! 😉
@@POVMarimba honestly helped a lot, thank you, can't wait to replay that a bunch until my lessons start back up lol
What mallets are you using? Looking to buy my own
These mallets are Marimba One Wave Wrap #2
@@POVMarimba thank you so much
That was absolutely insane… I hope I can be as good as you one day I am only a junior in HS but you are fantastic 🫡
Thank you so much! I give 1:1 online lessons too, so consider that if you want to advance your skills even faster.
@@POVMarimba thanks so much for the offer but I already have a 1:1 tutor
What grade is this considered? And is it like easier or harder than yellow after the rain
I'd say this is harder than yellow after the rain. Grade 4+
@@POVMarimbathanks, imma ask my private lesson teacher to help me with it 😂
@@Overwatchmaster3000 Awesome. I give private lessons too. Always open to new students. :)
@@POVMarimba thanks but i have a great lesson teacher already 😊 I’m sure ur awsome too
Great interpretation! Love it. I wonder if you could send me the audio track for the piece. I would love to play it. Thank you!
Thank you so much Noel. I can’t send that, but it comes with the score when you buy it.
Yeeeaaa. I play this on my recital
Awesome. Good luck!
2:11
Learning this as a 7th grader 😭
You got this! Check out my Masterclass videos for specific tips.
@@POVMarimba hello, I don’t think you remember me. But I finally played this piece in eighth grade for a concert and your masterclass and this performance really helped me out. Thank you!
@@luck9723how’d the performance go?
@@tonkachonka-pd6hjreally well, thank you!
I dont like the part at 2:35
Stefan hates the part at 2:35
You mean you don’t like to play that part of the music, or you don’t like my interpretation, or what?
@POV Marimba Stefan does not like playing that part and thinks that its too aggressive compared to the rest of the song
@@miau31333 yeah…it’s a little out of place.
I am a beginner to four piece mallet music, and this is a great piece to practice on! You can start practicing with 2 mallets, and work your way to four. Amazing piece, would recommend for all beginners.
Absolutely! Perfect first piece for four mallets
Yo i don’t know if you still make vids but could you try to play dream of the cherry blossom by Keiko Abe. It’s my highschool solo piece
Great piece. I played it when I was in college. Maybe I can work it back up in a few months
@@POVMarimba niceeee It is really hard though i am struggling quite a bit
@@zyfydrums ever consider a 1:1 coaching call? Email me for info. Info@povmarimba.com
Pushin the tempo! :). Pretty exciting at 17:00.
