Fame and I canter on the beach for the first time - a total dream come true! This is his first "real" beach ride. For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, I recommend checking this beach out! Horse friendly, no dogs allowed, port-o-potties but no horse troughs. Nice big lot, easy drive, easy in and out. What a lot I learned from you! You are a fantastic teacher! I've only just ridden on other people's horses so far in riding lessons, all different breeds, and I find I am a draft horse fanatic. Well, I love all horse breeds, but I can't get enough of the feathered feet. 😊 Thank you.

    What’s actually shocking about this is that you have to buy a trailer. I live in Poland and have my horse for 18 years now - it’s not necessary really to have your own trailer here. It’s so easy to rent one, even with an experienced driver.

    I had a wonderful perch/quarter mix as a kud( she lived to 32!) she was drafty but had the grace of a good quarter horse. Best baby sitter! 16 hands, naturally kind and LOVED me beyond. I never got hurt on her… Miss her ♥️‼️🙋‍♀️☮️🐴

    I'm thinking of buying a Percheron this week but I heard that their feet can be hard to do for farrier because they are so heavy. Do you have trouble getting their feet done?

    • @HappieronaHorse
      @HappieronaHorse Před měsícem

      Fame stands well for the farrier at this point. My farrier does charge more for drafts. I did spend the early years working on balance and teaching Fame to hold each foot independently with clicker training and that helped a lot. Good luck with your purchase!

    We staked our horses out on picket lines just to clear flammable grasses in areas that weren’t fenced. They learned not to step on the rope. No one ever got tangled. We kept their water right at the edge so they could reach it but not knock it over. Car tires and truck tires are good anchors for water buckets.

    I’m from The Netherlands, and went a couple of times to the event of Ring-steken, running at the ring, with Dutch draft horses. The kids ride on the horse without saddle. It’s very impressive to see, and hear, that horses run. In Dutch they are called Zeeuwse paarden, because they come from the province of Zeeland. (Where New Zealand is named after)

    Most of my horses are Percheron crosses. I LOVE the big horse. My first draft cross was a Percheron/Tennessee Walker cross. She took me to Intermediate Cross Country Jumping. She was a willing mare & loved to jump. We traveled across the country. I had her for 30 years, she was born on my farm. She was my best friend. Other Percheron crosses, with Quarter horses & Thoroughbreds. Love them. All versatile & very mild disposition. I also rode Shires in the mountains of Wyoming. So enjoyable! I look forward to finding a pair of Gypsy Vanners & Drummers. Like you stated, drafts can do really anything. Mine did. And they enjoyed it...English, Western, jumping, dressage & trail riding is Always a favorite. All my draft crosses were always well behaved around children. And anyone. Also owned an Irish Draft Stallion.. 17.2 hands. Big black beautiful boy. ❤ You are fortunate to have such a gorgeous horse as Fame! Great video! You are spot on with your knowledge!

    Do you find that the local economy affects the cost of a horse? In one part of the state, they may be more expensive than in another part of the state. That is what I am finding, or at least it seems that way in Texas.

    • @HappieronaHorse
      @HappieronaHorse Před 3 měsíci

      I definitely think it does. Certain breeds are more or less common in some areas than others which has an impact…Transport is so expensive too, a lot of people don’t want to pay to have a horse shipped these days.

  • @deloresgreene848

    I am pretty sure I bought a horse that is too much for me. My horse riding trainer of around 12years sold him to me and then warned me not to ride him because I was too weak and I would flop around on his back. Soon after, I fell and broke my hip (I'm 70), and now I am scared to get on him. I bought him too soon after my beloved very broke and well trained horse died. I had him for 33 years and he was so safe. I mourn for him every day. It is important to remember that you can get hurt very badly if you don't get the safest horse for your level of riding. I'm thinking of giving up riding altogether. It has become a sad thing for me now instead of the exhilarating fun I used to have. Be careful in selecting a horse.

    Your definitely NOT consuming a lot more gas to carry panels, your horses are a lot heavier. If you're worried about a couple dollars difference in a gas you burn, you probably can't afford horses, boarding, trailers, tack, feed, vet bills, etc. in the first place. This is expensive entertainment!

    No way would I tent camp. I like to be able to lock my self and m stuff up safely I also do t like to take up room in my garage to store a tent , cot, sleeping bag and bins of stuff. And what do you do for a bathroom? I love my gooseneck horse trailer and so does my horse! It’s safer and smoother then a bumper pull and had the added bonus of a dressing area that is insulated, has a sleeping platform where I have a queen bed and 2 windows with screens and a roof vent. I a propane camping fridge. I also pre make my meals and put them in washable silicone zip lock bags that don’t leak. I line to be zero waste in my life as much as possible and having a fridge helps. I can store my food in containers I take home and wash and I do r have ice in wasteful plastic bags. We have a refillable 3 gallon water bottle with a usb rechargeable faucet for drinking water and washing water. We use wooden scrub brushes and natural sponges for cleaning. I only use the larger propane tanks for cooking or heat that I can refill or change out no little green ones that cannot be refilled or exchanged and just end up in a landfill. I have wooden storage steps in my gooseneck wit drawers to store clothes, toiletries and cookware. No plastic bins that will end up in a landfill when they crack. I love that all this stuff stays in my trailer and I only need to pack up fresh food. So my set up is really easy. I get to have a real bed with sheets and bedding. I do love your insulated mugs and solar light. I have those things also. I have a solar shower and porta potty I set up in my horse area. I have a portable pen that is stored on the side of my trailer. My horse always has a safe stall no matter where we are at. All my tack fits in my back collapsible tack. I have a 30 gallon water tank under my gooseneck and a 39 coroner water tank in my dressing room and an additional 18 gallon corner water tank in my first stall. I always have plenty of water for me and my horse. I have a bale bag with wheels that carry’s a whole bale of hay and keeps in neat, clean and dry. I use slow feed hay nets and have mine prefilled. I have enough hay for a week. I love that I can lock myself in safely at night and I have a bed, storage and water and a fridge and I bring a propane stove top and a buddy heater and a folding table and chairs and I’m ready to camp safely. Since we produce no trash because even my toiletries are zero waste I have a bamboo toothbrush and toothpaste tablets, soap, shampoo and conditioner bars and deodorant in cardboard tubes I have zero waste and nothing to throw away bee use towels for cleaning up and I have a laundry basket in my truck no just bring everything home to wash. As well as all my food storage. I use bamboo cutlery or metal utensils I wash. I also have a French press for coffee and I bake my own muffins and granola bars and have them wrapped in beeswax. I bring apples orange and bananas and premade dips and get chips in a paper bag from a local restaurant as well as our tortillas. All my juices come in glass bottles no plastic for me. And we fill our insulated water bottles from our 3 gallon water bottle. I have a dry , insulated cozy space that locks and keeps me comfortable in any weather I don’t worry about wind or rain.
