Great analogy for storage! One thing I'm not sure of though is future proofing. Right now, I definitely only need 8GB of RAM for the Air I'm going to get. I'm using it for basic stuff. But... what about 5 years from now? OS and programs grow in size and become a heavier load over time. Would it be a good idea to get 16 now seen as it can't be altered later?

Fundamentally the design of selling M2 with 8GB of RAM is just bad. You may get faster benchmark with that but most people can tell you back in the HDD days no matter how fast your CPU is, swapping is the real performance killer that makes you upgrade / replace your PC. Most consumers would be much happier with a slower 16GB machine than a faster 8GB machine that swaps to SSD. For this reason I ended up with a cheap PC that has 8GB and then spend another $25 to get another 8GB online to make it 16GB.

So with other words me being a teacher and a family father just need the base iMac?

Does the Mac automatically use the external memory as "swap" memory or is that set-up somewhere?

Great video but still I think the base model with 8GB of RAM is cool for certain software developers I am a mobile dev (Android Native & Flutter) and I usually have several Android Emulators and iOS Simulators open together with several Android Studio windows, 200+ chrome tabs across 4+ Chrome browser windows open. Will the base model with 8GB of RAM be able to keep up? I think not. I use the 16GB 512SSD M1 Mac Pro and it doesn’t even flinch

I’m looking at swapping form windows to a MacBook (trying to decide air or pro). My work flow is as a uni student, high school teacher and online English teacher. So I have multiple word docs open/excel/PP, Arc Browser with always more than a dozen tabs open at a time and multiple work spaces. I sometimes do photo editing and very rarely video editing. Would I be okay with 8GB of RAM or should I upgrade to 16 (considering my workload and that I’m planning on keeping this device for as long as possible)

I have been searching for the best configuration for me as typical user, you know: web browsing, watching movies, CZcams, pairing my iPhone 14 Pro for downloading videos and photos, listening music, that’s all. What do you think Bro, that MacBook M2 with 13,6” and 256 GB of ram will be enough for me or better take that M3 with the same configuration as more forward-looking? Thank you for your advice 👍🏻
