    This is NOT a safety item. To use it you need to remove the blade guard- your primary safety device on the table saw. You should NOT use it- a hand held piece of plastic would never pass a risk assessment.

  • @Tensquaremetreworkshop

    CANNOT BE USED. It requires the blade guard to be removed- which it NEVER should.

    • @Microjig
      @Microjig Před 11 dny

      You are certainly welcome to your opinion, and you need to do what you feel is safe in your shop. However, even if you want to use your blade guard, there are times that you simply cannot. For example, when not cutting all the way through the stock like groove cuts and shoulder cuts. Or when using dado blades. Or when making any rip under about 1" in width, the blade guard does not fit between the blade and the fence. In each of these cases, the GRR-RIPPERs meet all of OSHA's requirements. And the GRR-RIPPER is highly useful on the router table, jointer and band saw as well as the table saw. Anywhere bits and blades want to bite you.

    • @Tensquaremetreworkshop
      @Tensquaremetreworkshop Před 11 dny

      @@Microjig 1) non-through cuts are perfectly possible with a blade guard. Just not one supported by the riving knife. There are other designs. I use one such myself. 2) narrow cuts- you use an auxiliary low fence. Plenty of you tube videos to teach you how to do that. 3) H&S is not about meeting nationally set minimum standards. It is about local risk assessment. There are several thousand table-saw accidents in the US every year- most would be prevented if a blade guard was always used. An 'instructional video' (your claim) should feature safe operation- indeed, it should be the primary concern. Yes, the gripper can be useful on a router table etc- but not a table saw.

    • @Microjig
      @Microjig Před 11 dny

      @@Tensquaremetreworkshop Again, you do what you think is safe. Hundreds of thousands of GRR-RIPPERs have been sold for 22 years now. They are in use in shops all over the US and the world. Many production shops use them daily.

    'Talk about safety' - are you having a laugh? Where is your blade guard? This is the primary safety device on a table saw. It should almost always be in place. Almost always? Yes, unless the jig being used requires it to be removed- and has its own blade guard. In other words there should ALWAYS be a blade guard in place. (yes, a sled can incorporate a blade guard).

    • @Microjig

    • @Microjig
      @Microjig Před 15 dny

      Technically, a dado is a groove cut across the grain withing a piece of wood. Like the groove that holds a shelf in a cabinet or book case. The term has expanded to include grooves that run with the grain as well, like the groove that holds the bottom of a drawer box. A rabbet is when the groove is on the edge of a part so it is open on two sides.

    I found this tool has more hype than ability, it doesn't move smoothly and doesn't sit flat on the reference stock without a bit of pressure. I purchased this along with their specially ground lock miter bit this combination really wasn't that accurate, the ground shelf on the bit was not flat or the gauge wasn't so all this expense only got me close in the setup, not a one stepe solution as shown. A lot of money spent to produce a marginal increase of setting up a lock miter bit and will probably bring just as poor results on half lap joints. Very disappointed with Microjig they should have used precisely ground aluminium not sloppy plastic.

    Is it necessary to use the relief bit prior to the dove tail bit?

    • @Microjig
      @Microjig Před 25 dny

      It is HIGHLY recommended to cut a relief groove before cutting the dovetail. This does NOT mean you can only use our bit. Any 1/4" straight cutter will work, and I even cut them using a 1/4" dado stack on the saw sometimes. The relief groove should be used with any "undercutting" bit like a dovetail or a t-slot cutter for example. The relief groove removes much of the waste from the cut so there is not so much for the undercutting bit to remove. And this also means fewer chips trapped in the groove being re-ground over and over. You will find you get cleaner cuts, and your dovetail bit will last MUCH longer when you use a relief groove.

    • @Microjig

      The GRR-RIPPER acts as your moving blade guard, keeping your hands well above the blade even if the part is ejected. Using a push stick, your hand still often passes directly over the blade. If you prefer to use your blade guard, by all means do so. But for thin rips (about 1" or less) the blade guard will not fit between the blade nad the rip fence. The GRR-RIPPER meets all OSHA standards for use in situations where the blade guard cannot be used.

    Is there any reason this can't be wider to accommodate wider boards? Then just add an additional groove? Thanks

      Adrian, No reason at all. The best part about making your own jigs is you can make them to fit your needs.

    Great product and would really appreciate seeing the users submissions but unfortunately in all of these contest videos you have chosen to speed through them so fast that the ideas can’t be studied. Slow them down, Please! Or, better yet, as others suggested, feature each in its own video. Sharing plans and ideas would increase sales. Seems like a no brainer.
