The police officer handled this all wrong. His attitude is aggressive towards the driver, and didn’t give him chance to explain what happened, whilst taking the other driver’s side. Had similar happen to me.

Water getting into the exhaust outlet will pool in the exhaust behind the fridge and flood the unit under the couch. Glad you didn't have to put a false claim from another driver through your insurance. Even if he did hit a sign, that's his fault, not yours EVEN IF YOU DID cut him off. He should be in control of his vehicle. I do think its wise to never step out of a car when cops first approach your vehicle no matter who you are though. They have no clue what your intentions are. I do think the first cop who shut your door is a loose cannon and should be retaught de-escalation skills.
