Thanks for making this video. Been feeling mentally fatigued after I won my first amateur Muay Thai fight. I’ve been training for 5 months and have competed 3 times, 2 point competitions prior to my debut. My coach is trying to get me to fight again soon and I honestly don’t want to but I don’t want to come off as a bitch in his eyes since he’s old school. I just haven’t been feeling as great in training as I used to and have been a lot more tired than usual.

I studied JKT for a year and what I remember most about it was it was a blend of different martial arts for dealing with different situations: for mid/short range/clinch striking it drew a lot from Muay Thai, ground work was a blend if wrestling and jiu jitsu, and I peaked just starting to learn knife fighting which drew from arnis. The primary philosophy of JKT I was taught was, inflict as much pain with as little effort as possible to 1) discourage your opponent from continuing the fight and 2) giving yourself the opportunity to escape. So thats probably a long winded way if saying I agree whole heartedly with the message of this video that practical self defense comes from lots of different techniques and arts to be able to deal with different practical situations you would encounter in a street fight.

Bruce Lee died at the age of 32 not 33. He would’ve turned 33 that year but he died in July. His birthday was in November.

I always understood "add what is your own" to be more about your personal karacteristics then anything else.

Absolutely sparring is the most important aspect in learning a martial art. No better way to pressure test and to adapt the moves/techniques they have been drilling in your head to fit your body and natural tendencies. Awesome breakdown.
