Great video Christopher. I myself have very difficult, loud, long gigs - then have to play again the next day. I used to panic because I sounded so bad the next morning. But I've learned not to panic. If the second performance is not until the next evening, I typically play for a very short time earlier in the day - like warming up 5-10 minutes. I probably won't sound great then, but I am more focused on just staying relaxed and playing very simple long tones and lip slurs. Often I will do a siren on my horn from middle G to low C, trying to shore up the gaps. I've heard this called "lip smears" before. You just bend the note down until it drops to the next lower partial. Do it slowly. Like Chris, I try to save myself for the next performance. So most of the day I just let my lips HEAL. Advil helps. I also use Lip Renew for the past couple of years, if I feel a lot of swelling. You can apply a little bit around your lip area several times that day. It helps reduce swelling. Hope this helps.

Forgive my ignorance, as trumpet is not my primary. What is the alternative to using these slides? I know old QuickChangeValve trumpets could lower the key to A. I imagine that it enables the low Eb concert. Obviously there are the Alto trumpets in Eb or F, but also more recently the 3 valve G bugles. Have you heard of these alternative key trumpets being used? Or is the standard approach to use Bb? Thanks for the knowledge and wonderful playing

Fuck. I have been atruggling with this for YEARS and is one of the reasons why i stopped playing trumpet years ago. Now I am trying again, and there it is that double buzz... until i saw this video. As soon as I understood the reason why it happens, I managed to solve it in one try. Now I am motivated to keep practico g again. Thank you so much! ❤

These def help. But how do you fit in 9 different sessions when you also work fulltime, 9 hours and day plus a 2 hour commute. Does buzzing help? I damaged my chops during my last show so trying to get them happy again.
