Reckong Peo is the headquarter and administrative centre of the Kinnaur district and is approximately 230 km from Shimla. It is located at an altitude of 7500 feet.
Kalpa is one of the most beautiful villages of Kinnaur surrounded by high mountains with a spectacular view of Kinnaur Kailash. It is famous for its Temples, Monasteries, Kinnauri style buildings and Apple cultivation. The
apples here are famous worldwide for their natural sweetness, color, texture, and long shelf life. Kalpa is approximately 5 km from Reckong Peo and is located just above Reckong Peo at an altitude of 9700 feet.
Roghi Village is an ancient village which is situated 5 kms further from Kalpa and it is well known for its panoramic views and traditional charm.
In order to reach these places: One needs to travel through one of the most dangerous roads i.e. Spiti-Kaza highway which has steep trenches on one side and high mountains on the other to reach here.
How to Reach:
1. Bus from Delhi to Shimla, Shimla to Reckong Peo and then local taxi/cab to Kalpa and Roghi Village.
2. Bus from Delhi to Reckong Peo and then local taxi/cab to Kalpa and Roghi Village.
3. We booked a cab / Taxi from Shimla to Shimla.
Route: Delhi - Shimla - Reckong Peo - Kalpa - Roghi Village
Accommodation:
1. Hotels, home stays, cottages, and guest houses are available in Kalpa and Reckong Peo.
2. We stayed in White Nest in Kalpa. Stay package for the deluxe room which included - 1 day stay, breakfast and dinner for 2 people along with electric bed. It costed Rs.3500.
Best time to Visit:
1. April to June.
2. September to October
3. One can also visit in winter months but during winters, conditions are harsh.
