We enjoyed the ferry. We had no issues with the trip. For the ferry to Mallorca we had a cabin but this time we just lounged in the airplane style seats. The seats were comfortable. They had a small cafeteria onboard which served a variety of drinks and food to include coffee. You can see the cafeteria at the 1:24 mark.

Sounds like you really know the trail. It is unfortunate that you have to get on a mediocre paved road for a section of the trail. Parts of the trail are fantastic though and look fairly new. Just read an article about recumbent bikes. They can get really fast. Interesting how they were banned from bicycle races. Thanks for your comment.

you're missing out by not visiting killarney. A simple 30 minute drive could take you all day because of all the beauty spots you can stop at on the same stretch of road, the killarney national park is also one of the greenest places on earth

If you can run marathons, you will have no problems at RAGBRAI. We never rode bikes before RAGBRAI and only did about half of the recommended training plan, and were able to ride all 500 miles. Luckily it isn't a race. I bet you can eat a bunch of calories after your marathons. The small towns, people, and of course food are what make RAGBRAI truely special.

I currently don't have a large selection of music available for this channel as it isn't monetized so I generally work with free music. But appreciate your comments so that next time I can make a better effort to get more authentic music. Given that there are about 36 million ethnic Irish residing in the US, there always seem to be some type of Irish or Irish influenced bands playing locally. And the music ranges widely from the traditional to the hybrid mixes. I totally agree, it is a great event. I believe it is definitely worth a try. I wasn't aware of it but since my relatives are from Iowa, of course they heard about it. My wife decided we would do it so we had to buy some bikes and did about half of the recommended bike training. It's not a race, so most people can accomplish this adventure. There are always SAG vehicles or E-bikes to help assist. Some members of our group even took a day off to recover during the middle of the ride.

We really enjoyed stopping at that location. There was so much to see. We walked through the garden and saw watermelons and a coffin. We should have taken the time for a house tour. Never expected to see a camel in a small Iowa town. I bet the dinner theater is a blast.

I didn't know about RAGBRAI until my Iowa relatives told me about it. We are brand new to biking but it definitely is an exciting way to travel. I can see the appeal to riding it again. I discovered that Colorado and Georgia have some week long rides but nothing seems to compare to Iowa. Agree, riding through the two stadiums was a great plus. I didn't see the backwards rider but he posted several times in the Facebook group page "RAGBRAI LI July 20-27, 2024" We didn't get caught by the train in Davenport but the wait at the dip site was about 40 minutes and apparently got longer. I wasn't able to get a patch as they were out but I'm going to get some items from the store once it reopens; will need to see about the 'trophies."

Yes, the tent survived but I think only because I threw both of our bikes inside the tent to keep it from flying away. The next morning we noticed that several tents that were around us previously, no longer were there. Some tents were also flattened. Glad you were able to shelter safely. Originally we were told we had to pay extra to stay inside the Hockey Arena but once the air sirens started and everyone was told to take shelter inside buildings, they opened it up to anyone. Some people sheltered in the apartment complex next to the campsite.

It seemed to get earlier every day. We started with 6am, then 5:30am but sometimes it was so hot and muggy in the tents that we would wake up every few hours and if we couldn't get back to sleep, we just got going. We wanted to start when daylight was just breaking so we didn't have to ride in complete darkness.
