Religious Freedom For All: Becket clients share their stories
The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is a non-profit, public-interest legal and educational institute that protects the free expression of all faiths. The Becket Fund exists to vindicate a simple but frequently neglected principle: that because the religious impulse is natural to human beings, religious expression is natural to human culture. We advance that principle in three arenas-the courts of law, the court of public opinion, and the academy-both in the United States and abroad.
At the Becket Fund we like to say we've defended the religious rights of people from "A to Z," from Anglicans to Zoroastrians. Our supporters represent a myriad of religions, but they all share our common vision of a world where religious freedom is respected as a fundamental human right that all are entitled to enjoy and exercise.
In defending these ideas, in theory and in practice, we find ourselves at the crossroads of church and state.

He should have joined the Royal Navy as trimmed & well kept beards are allowed because naval personal are not expected to wear gas masks with cold winds at sea being a reality. It must be a full set mind of both Beard & moustache so not one or the other as this was made so in 1850 to stop personal from becoming occupied fashion trends of the time. In Uk service outside of the navy you can be allocated growing a beard by your commanding officers permission if in regulation standards & exceptions for religious or other grounds can be requested. The fella should have served in the British forces as this was allocated for even prior to ww1 in queen Victoria's reign. our air force is another matter for officers can have moustaches as their is a whole strange hierarchy to the system because of the Toff in the royal; flying corps that became the RAF. Naval & regulars ground troops etcetera having running gags for the RAF due to this to date. USA for you, endless dribble about acceptance DEI nonsense but in practice them yanks are kind of weighted anchors that don't accommodate for nothing. USA has a clean shaven culture unlike much of Europe because they adopted their military foundation-traditions from the French who accommodate for nothing. Only the French foreign legion sappers are permitted beards as woodmen & such to this day. Germany all are permitted beard except in ww1 & 2 as Gebirgsjäger/mountain troops were the exception though all could have moustaches. A good rule of thumb if French in founding then no beards. The Napoleonic & prior Anglo-French wars set this divide. kind regards!

Do they want to foster with the acknowledgement and intent to treat any child under their care like the living individuals they are, and let them grow into their own selves? Do they intend to give them freedom to choose their own religious/sexual beliefs, free of fear and guilt? If not, then they don't deserve to be parents. Kids don't need to feel worse than they already likely do because you adopt them under the pretense of love and care, and then turn on them if they decide not to follow your religious practices and views. I adopted my son two years ago. He was the exception to the rule as they skipped licensing due to his time nearly to age out of the system. Otherwise you have to be foster licensed first before you can adopt. I am single and adopted in Indiana -- sounds to me that Mass (I did live there once) needs to get with the times. If a conservative state like mine can accept singles and people of any other orientation -- so long as the home is good, and safe, a more "progressive" state should be able to as well.

I understand this feels like discrimination but the point is they will not be your children. Your job is to provide a safe environment, not to evangelize the kids. They may only be 3-6 years old but they may have queer siblings or loved ones theyve been separated from and its not fair for them to be told their loved ones are going to hell when theyve already been traumatized. It is your job to simply love them and keep them safe. They would have denied you for not agreeing with a “black lifestyle” or “disabled lifestyle” or something else fundamentally unchanging about a person. Also, i worked in daycare for a decade and i did meet one trans 5 year old who knew. So its not impossible for that foster child to know theyre queer yet either. I truly hope you open your heart as Jesus did and see that you are meant to love your neighbor as they are without judgement. The rest of the situation is simply between them and God and none of your business. 🙏

I think it’s weird to assume that this particular couple would shove anything down anyone’s throat. People can have differing views and still provide a safe, loving environment. This is already assuming that the “fictional” kids are lgbtq-affirming. The state could theoretically partner children that have similar ideologies with the foster parents. However, they don’t want to do that.

The USA government vigorously fights for individual freedoms and the ability for each person to practice a religion without fear or discrimination, that is unless it is a religion they don't understand in which case it is not worthy of any protections. Just because the federal government does not understand the Apache religion does not give them grounds to dismiss the practice as unauthentic and unimportant. Destroying Oak Flats destroys a religion which violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Pretty simple equation of the hypothetical reality. The very earth, the rocks, the insects, the plants, the air at Oak Flats represents their church. When a foreign mining company destroys a church for their personal gain, shouldn't the USA be collectively against this? I am not a religious person, but I accept that some people are and that they practice their religion in various ways, some in a building and some outside in a natural space. The Supreme Court needs to protect ALL religions exactly the same way and that means Saving Oak Flat to allow the Apache to practice their religion without fear.

What you're describing (Christmas songs in public schools, Jewish religious symbols in public spaces) IS establishment. It's the definition of establishment. And Scalia is hardly the majority opinion. He's one of the most conservative justices that served on the Court in recent history (until the new MAGA justices, that is). I'm not sure why it's so difficult for religious people to practice their beliefs in the private realm. No one is stopping Christians from filling their yards with crosses and manger scenes. No one is stopping Christians from decorating their church grounds, or sending their kids to private Christian schools where their beliefs won't be challenged by the diversity of opinion/experience that comes from living in a free society. I'm not Christian, and I'm glad I'm not confronted by Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Wiccan, Buddhist, etc symbology in our secular public realm. I would never stop people from saying grace in a public park, or stop a Christian group from using a classroom in our public schools to meet after hours. That said, the government SHOULD be prevented from ESTABLISHING monuments to religion in the public realm. After all, these spaces are owned by all of us, and if people like me were in the majority, I wouldn't find it fair to have statues of Darwin all over the place, or quotes from the Daily Stoic plastered all over courthouses.

It also read that my mother authorizes the attorney-in-fact (my niece trustee) to create a "irrevocable trust" and/or a "special needs trust or trusts", but has not and for 15 years i have over looked this.I have spent all my savings og $5,775.00 on 3 Oklahoma City Attorneys and still have no got anything did for me .Either taking my money and saying come pick your paperwork up and keeping my money or filing my case in the wrong court, with the judge giving them 20 days to amend my petition ,but the attorney did nothing but show up at my apartment and have me sign a release form .I paid that last attorney $5,000.00 cash for nothing.Legal Aid ,disability law center or trinity law will not help me out.Maybe you might have a solution to this problem i have?

Well, well I have just seen the military's version of Joel Osteen. Combat, Chaplin focus on Combat. Good order and discipline you fool! What would your answer be if some soldier was a practicing satanist, and this soldier served in combat and had a Bronze Star and did the same thing as the doctors you spoke of. Now this satanist came to you and said, my religion requires me to sacrifice animals once a week, its part of my religion. Would that be okay with you, if not then as a military Chaplin your two faced. You think it okay for some military doctor to wear a turban, have a beard and grow his hair long due to his religion. My concern is good order and discipline, if the people what to grow beards, grown their hair long, tattoo their face then get out of the military. I did 26 years and it guys like you that make me shake my head over the state of our military. By the way in combat it's never good to stand out from the crowd. Everyone looks the same except for one or two that have a turban and beard. If I was an enemy sniper which one do you think I'm sending to Arlington next.

To me as someone who served for 26 years, I think the services have completely forgotten about good order and discipline. If there is an operational reason (trying to blend in with the indigenous population) or a medical reason, those two reasons, for beards, I don't have a beef with. To the Rabbi, for religion reasons I would ask you, what's next, what if I said: I belong to the Church of Satan, and I have to perform a weekly animal sacrifice. Why shouldn't the military allow that? I hope they never do but it my religious right and my belief so the military must allow me to do that. If you can wear a beard I should be able to sacrifice animals in garrison. As crazy as that sounds that the same damn logic that used to justify a solider to wear a beard. What happen to leaders that had ball's; where did they all go. This isn't the Boy Scouts, and when I signed up I gave up certain right that I had as a civilian. The Jewish and Christian religions and the Roman empire has been a sore subject from eons ago but the lessons from the Roman Legion ring true for today's military. I would suggest current military members research why Rome as an empire fell!. I'll give you a hint, One of the main reasons for the fall of Rome was, Rome change the standards of the Roman Legion. Rome caved, and the requirements to be a legionnaire became easier, and as a result Rome fell, oh there were other reasons but it all falls back to the war fighting capability of the warrior. Standards, strength and capability is what leaders need to focus on. No ones beard is going to help them in a fire fight; our discipline, training and your guts will. This all boils down to weak leadership in the services that allow stupidity like this to happen. I am not against beards, just not in uniform. Soldiers that want to have a beard, I support that, get out the service, and as a civilian grown a beard down to you feet. Our country is so screwed.
