My experiences 1 week after rotator cuff surgery. Please consult your doctor before using any of these products. I had surgery on my left shoulder even though I accidentally said right -the camera I used reversed the image of myself.
I am at 6 weeks and have lots of pain start therapy next week it's going to be painful I think how should my pain feel at 6 weeks
Hi,Donna, happened to see your video. I am 65 female and will do the surgery at the end of this month. Do you think the shoulder is better than before at one year mark? How do you feel now?
I am heading for reverse shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair, same shoulder, same time. Thank you for your videos. I've already bought my big sleeve poncho style tops. I am now searching for the S bar. Thanks so much!! I'm headed for surgery in 2 weeks.
This video helps me cause I still have pain my year is in November
Donna, thank you for your very helpful videos. I am 2-1/2 weeks out from surgery. Obviously, I’m on the front end of this journey. What a test of patience this is going to be. I started w/your 3-week post-op video. To be honest, one thing I noticed were your eyes and w/every subsequent video, your eyes seemed to get brighter and brighter. At this stage of basic virtual full immobility, that actually encouraged me. Slow and steady and deliberate. No doubt this will be one of the most difficult experiences of my life but I am wired to get through every step as it comes, one step at a time. One day I will be looking BACK on this experience. Your progress updates, practical advice, and, most importantly to me, your positive encouragement are most helpful. Thank you so much! Martha Johnson
@@user-ds3zu1jo3s , Martha, I am glad the videos have been helpful. And yes, before you know it this will all be in the past! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
@@funmakingmoneyify What a difference a week and a half makes! I have turned some kind of corner as I have basically ZERO pain and am having to be mindful of not overdoing it. I'll still be in the sling for two more weeks but have started taking my arm out and slowly, passively straightening it down by my side, per instruction of my physical therapist. Lord A-Mercy, it's tight but it is a HUGE psychological boost to be taking an actual action step on the long road to getting back to normal. Happy Day!
were you able to sleep in bed, or strictly in the recliner. do you have to sleep elevated right after surgery.
were you able to walk outside say, 2-3 days after surgery?
are you right or left handed?
@@MichaelGerik , I am right handed so I was fortunate that it was my left shoulder. It was winter in Buffalo so I did not walk outside 2 to 3 days afterwards. I also don’t think that I felt up to it even if it was nice weather, but I’m sure others may have felt differently. I loved the recliner as it was way more comfortable after surgery. If you sleep in a bed, you would need to prop yourself up.
As a retired surgical nurse, I knew the surgical procedure, positioning and care for patients during surgery, but having this procedure on me, in totally clueless on the specifics of being the patient post op. I’m glad I saw your video. The patient is the best source because they experienced it. So unless a nurse or a physician underwent this, it’s all book knowledge. Thank you for all the tips how to be a better patient. I am prepared more after hearing your experience.
@@eileensico2148 , thank you for your message! It is true, as a surgical nurse, you know all about the procedure, but recovery is something you have to personally experience. May you recover comfortably, completely and well!
Great job sharing your story.Thank you I am going to be a care giver very soon for someone having surgery.
@@bobbiecall9463 , you are most welcome!
omg I was SO glad to see your video! I am exactly where you are at 16wks and getting very discouraged! And I see people who did so much better like you said. Sleeping in bed is still very uncomfortable, and excercise is difficult and I cant figure it out . I went to the mall for 3 hours and was so wiped out after and my legs even hurt! I think it's from all the sitting I've done to ice , etc. My whole arm hurts like you said too. btw - I found a wooden back scrathcher to help itches! :) I have one of those massage "GUNS" That actually helps if someone is around to do my back for loosening up knots. I am just so frustrated. I didnt expect pain this late on .
also, have you slept on that shoulder yet?
@@amydavison1877 , hang in there, you will progress!
Excellent Video n valid suggestions 🎉
THANK YOU!!! Surgery is in Sept. and I'm nervous as hell.
@@kimmarieullrich8627 , that’s very understandable. You will be fine.😉
Very helpful and encouraging, I've got hope, thank you!
Thank you, SO, SO MUCH. I needed this, I'm at the 3rd week post surgery, and you explained everything I'm experiencing.
I had this surgery they tryed to use a scope HOWEVER so badly torn off the bone he had to make an insition about 3 inches long this was the most painful surgery I've ever had, n I've had several it took months good lord that HURT
You can get a deeper dose because I’ve been taking homeopathy for 40 years. You can get a 1M arnica which is what I take. I have a torn rotator cuff. Also you can get them from a homeopathic remedy star in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They’ll send it right to your houseArnica tablets and you can get in a tube at the health store and that will help also
@@joanielorentz4979 , thank you! Good to know!
Donna, I left u a msg on FB and InstaG. I have appreciated your videos and have taken all your suggestions to be prepared for my upcoming surgery this Tuesday on July 30th 2024. Would you consider selling me your ice machine? I ordered one from EBay but it isn’t the one you have, it isn’t electrical. I left my phone number on the messages I sent you on FB and IG. Kindly let me know pls. Thank you, Beth
Cortisone, though it may provide pain relief, can inhibit healing of tissue. My surgeon wouldn’t even do rotator cuff surgery on me until at least two months had passed from a cortisone injection I’d had. I’m going to be more judicious in the future about getting injections.
THANKS getting surgery in a week from today and I am so nervous . This is my first video and started to learn because of your great day to day tips. BIG Thank you
$35 dallers ! This gal is Buffalonian I’m sure of it.
@@kmac2014 , hahaha! From St Louis for the first 26 years of my life but then have lived in Buffalo now for over 30 years.
@@funmakingmoneyify I grew up in TO, so I’d know that accent anywhere. My shoulder gets done on Aug 1st. Thanks for all the good info.
@@kmac2014 , wishing you best of luck, keep me posted as to how you are doing.
I wish someone could tell me what the pain is at 6 weeks. I have acking pain. I fell and wonder if I hurt the repair
@@sf1144, I would talk to your doctor or physical therapist about it.
How long did you have to take pain killers?
@@geraldf9651 , the first 3 days and then just at night for the next 3 or 4 days and that was it.
In the videos, up until the last one it looks like your right arm. Now its your left?
@@jeangrace8440 , I used two different video cameras and one reversed my image. It was indeed my left.
Thank you very much for your much needed post op info. I am scheduled for surgery in September and too many people are trying to talk me out. You give me courage. Thank you again. Isabel
@@user-il7fx9rg6p , glad to help!
Super helpful. Thanks!
I had a supraspinatus surgery 23 weeks ago. Still have pain and feel rigidity. What do you recommend? Thanks for your videos. Raul Rosario
@@raulrosario1810 , I would recommend talking to you therapist and doctor about it. Wishing you well.
Thank you so much
Wow! You look great - thanks for all the tips, I'll be having my rotator cuff and bicep tenesis (sp?) done 7/10. You have really helped reassure me of the process.
@@christinebreslin1414 , how did your surgery go?
🎉
Im going to be have right shoulder surgery on July 22nd and the specialist says I will be in a sling for 4 to 6 weeks but don't know for sure if there is rehab on the table but if any body see this message I will keep you posted.
@@michaelduke2630 , trust me, you will need rehab.
@funmakingmoneyify I hope so too because after 23 years of playing softball and now into a certified Athlete Assistant Softball Coach for Special Olympics it's time to fix me up real good.
You’re really pretty.
9 days post op and im just now seeing all these videos and i can honestly say i regret getting this surgery. Being that I am a single mom with two kids and one is special needs w/ a Gtube and a standard golden doodle smh I wish I would’ve did my research this is horrible, I can’t even move my arm the way I need to let along take care my son properly I hate it here 😩😌
@@Jane-nq8df , I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine having to do all that you need to do to care for your son and be restricted from shoulder surgery. Doctors’ offices need to have someone that can really prepare you for what the recovery will be like and the restrictions. That’s honestly why I made the videos so that I could help people know what they would be experiencing.
Thanks for your video. I’m 4 days from post surgery- right shoulder, labrum, rotator cuff, frozen shoulder. Pain ball insert came out 2nd day, 1-2 days early. Pain first night SUCKS. I’ve previously had neck surgery from breaking vertebrae. This is much worse. But…. I needed the surgery; your video has helped.
@@patrickgreen2361 , I hope you are feeling better since posting this.
Hey! Did you find that your bicep repair hurt worse and took longer to heal than your rotator cuff repair? I had both like you did and definitely the front of my shoulder hurts for worse. Like right between the front of my shoulder and my peck. Did you find that?
I did not. My soreness was definitely more from my rotator cuff repair and my shoulder muscles.
You would be better off taking a multi strain probiotic as m& Pm along w the herb Milk Thistle from the seed only! 1,000 mgs am & Pm to detox you liver daily from the seed only! as well as a prebiotic inulin & inulin . Eating more fiber daily really helps me an apple ,pear and or mango .smooth sailing daily! All are all natural!
So helpful---especially the frustration since we all likely feel it. I'm at the 6 month mark and have made good progress but I ache much of the time. PT is great for the reasons you mention. Thanks for keeping up your You Tube journey for those who trail behind you!
You are welcome!
I’m at just over 5 weeks now, had been feeling great now with doing the pulleys , wand extension, wand rotation I’m really sore and swollen….oh well hope it improves…thx for the great info and videos…
It will improve, hang in there!
Ice made a big difference 🎉
At what week could you lift your arm up to the side on its own? I’m 5 weeks post op now out of sling next week! Thx!
I can’t remember but I can tell you at 8 weeks a it was very hard to sustain having my arm lifted straight out in front of me. It took 10 weeks before it was comfortable.
Thanks!
5 weeks out. no sleep 2 or 3 hours if im lucky and exhausted . im so sleep deprived. my body wants to sleep in the middle of the day for an hour. i got my sling off yesterday and have it back on today. just my arm hanging out cause soreness, the sling for a couple hours makes it feel better. it is such a slow process, i get frustrated a lot but keep pushing along. your tips are so good, makes me feel not so alone in this process.
You are not alone! After 6 weeks in a sling, I went back to using in on and off because my arm would swell up. You will get there!
Thank you!!
I am entering 5th week in brace and come across this video….i have had similar Experience. I had a nerve block that lasted 24hrs and never Has any serious pain. Took the ozxy at Night to sleep….then Tylenol….started therapy day 2 post op….i had a massive rotator cuff tear and previous old tears plus completely torn bicep ….im doing great started using pully yesterday….a recliner is necessary. I have a carnalper power recliner slept in it for 2 weeks….without it I think it would have been very difficult to sleep….sleeping in bed after two weeks and no problems now.
Great to hear!
I cant wait to tie my hair up, lucky I have fairly curly hair and can wash and wear, only problem I have to wet it curly every day grrrrr.
The struggle is real!
i have been warned not to put my hand behind my head, they say the quicker the recovery, the less chance the tissue gets to heal?. i am 7 weeks post op almost full tear 2cmx2cm plus resection on collar bone. i am so scared to hurt myself with doing too much. with so many exercises i have decided to cut back to twice a day exercise. i would rather take time to get there than hurt myself. NHS physios do not touch your body, so its hard really guessing if you doing it right, and so frustrating. my first day of new exercises yesterday kept me awake all night, my arm was so painful. i get a cold feeling in my shoulder blade.
How are you doing now?
Hi Donna, in your previous videos it was the opposite arm. Which is it? 😮
Well done young lady. You and your shopping helped. 357 dislikes? They should meet my razor strap. Shame on those folks. You did a good thing here missy. Need a rest B4 Ur next vid. Signed.. Nervous in Montana.. Used to think only the sheep were nervous up here. 😁
Lol! Haters gonna hate. Thanks for your words of encouragement.😄
Having surgery on Monday - 6/10 - THANK you for taking the time to do this. Good luck!
And to you as well! How are you feeling?
Going thru this now. Thx Sista !
Thank you for your videos I’m at 3 wks I’m doing really good I can’t wait to be able to raise my arm shoulder length and lift weights for therapy ❤ you have helped all of us. Btw I started their day 4 post op
In case anyone needs this for sleeping I started using aswaganda gummies and a friend recommended to stay up as long as possible then you worry much about getting comfortable you’ll just fall sleep
When did you first start therapy? I started day 4 post op
Wow, well that just shows how different everyone’s therapy is different. I did passive exercises like arm swings very early but true physical therapy at 6 weeks.
Omg!! Thank you sooo much!!! Today is June 4, 2024, and I am having surgery in a month. Your advice was tremendously helpful!!! It helped ease my pre-surgery anxiety. I have little fear of the surgery. But it is the recovery that stresses me.😅 We do what we have to do..right? I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness in taking the time to share.❤ I was very comforting!!😊
I’m so glad that this was helpful. Good luck to you!
Nerve block and recliner and you will do well….its not as bad as what I was told based on my experience….week 5 and I’m doing great….
Yes we do! Glad the videos help put you more at ease.❤️
I'm terrified.
I am scheduled for surgery July 17. Hope we both have a great recovery ❤️🩹
