Because Egypt is an Islamic/Muslim country, is Islamic Sharia Law strictly enforced? And does this present any issues for gay travellers in Egypt? As a gay Christian myself, is there any places of historical places in Egypt that you would recommend?
Hey Michael. I do believe it is still enforced. However, what you see in Egypt (talking more specifically about Cairo) is a culture where a man cannot sexually have any contact to a woman until the marriage. So “flirting” and sex with tourists is something that happens quite often there. Another thing is that grindr tells you to be careful when using the app. Due to arrests that happened from traps that police made. My experience was different. I had dates a gay from grindr and also met many gays there just to hangout. There is gay life there but this is not public. You won’t find any danger on that matter there. I was with Egyptian friends that were quite camp going around the downtown and nobody said a word. 🙃 Besides all of that. Egypt is really not a country to enjoy the gay life but the richness of one of or the biggest civilisation we had. And that is what makes the trip so special.
