GLORIOUS! I've had a broken console for 10 years and it's always driven me crazy. One kit and about 30 minutes and all that is history, thank God! A couple of differences between the video and my experience: Turn 1 has an early 996 (amber lamps give it away) and his console only has 6 Torx screws; mine is a bit later (Nov. 1998) and has 8 screws. I had to clip off the broken hinge bits on the back of mine with some wire cutters or they were in the way of the new part. I used dry wall screws as they seemed very sturdy and bit into the plastic nicely. The worst thing was twisting and turning trying to get access to everything, but that's a Porsche for you.

I have one - I went Alfa 4c - 650s McLaren, 458 then the MC20. It is savagely quick. I wouldn’t have wanted to drive it without having the other cars first. Really enjoyed the video guys but the background music during dialogue was a bit intrusive - too loud and unnecessary really !

Just can’t beat GM performance. That is the base Corvette as well. Hasn’t changed in decades. GM has always been the better performing product. Corvette, Camaro and so on

Great video and love the car! My car has a GT640 upgrade from Porsche of America. Guess the horsepower? 640. My 0-60 is 2.9 seconds with a 10.4 1/4 mile.

I beg to differ about the history of drum brakes in race cars. In 58, Porsche, Mercedes, and probably many others were still using drums and did so until the early 60s. I am not sure about Ferrari, but I think they made race cars after the TR that still had drum brakes; could be wrong.

Is this the “official” video? Seems strange that it suggests discarding 3/4 included pieces of a $27 kit… and to substitute drywall screws when the parts needed to make a much stronger repair are included. 1) There are rigid tabs on the vinyl cover at the rear that attach it to the lower lid. They need to slide out towards the front. Don’t just go prying at it or you’ll break the tabs. Mine needed no prying to disassemble. Remove the screws, then slide the vinyl cover forwards instead of just pulling up on it. 2) The included pieces of aluminum U-channel slide in perfectly from the rear of the console, below the hinge holes. They back up the plastic and make for a much stronger connection than without them. I recommend taking the time to use them and the pop rivets over drywall screws into thin plastic. On the Boxster 986 they could be inserted from the rear without any additional disassembly. Lay the hinge down into position then slide in the pieces of U-channel (“legs” down, flats up) in from the rear right below the holes in the hinge. Then, drill your holes at the appropriate location and keep drilling through the aluminum. Pop in the rivets and it’s unlikely to fail for the life of the vehicle.

Please show how this is done on a 986 instead of a 996. The 996 has extra space behind the lid whereas the 986 does not. Every demonstration I've seen on this subject is done on a 996. The parts are the same, but the interior of the cars is not.

Nice to see where 0710 TR wound up, I could have bought this car for $1500 in '68, without the engine, but I already owned the engine, it was in my 250 Tour de France.
