Hi Graham, what is the 101 transfer of Glengarry Glen Ross like? I have the older Blu-ray release and it's pretty ropey. Wondering if it's had an upgrade on the transfer?

You didn’t like it because you’re analyzing it. Stop analyzing and lighten up; it’s SUPPOSED to be ridiculous and it accomplishes that in several creative and memorable ways. For those who don’t analyze whether it “works,” it does. Weirdly kind of becoming classic, and it couldn’t even be made today for lots of sensitive self-limiting reasons.

I think I saw this on Prime a bit ago. I’m an SF fan, but I’ve had enough of the plots that posit the Return. This stuff isn’t proper SF, it just engages with a trope or two to pull you in. I don’t know Mastorakis’s films, so can’t comment on what he does. All I can say is that I didn’t really enjoy this. I’m not into Space Opera or any particular sub-genre, but I do like my SF to have clear, solid SF plot points, and preferably, a novum (I think that’s the term). I just wish that films that want to have a religious edge, would come out and say that’s their sub-genre, but they don’t.

The IMDB profile for Jean-Pierre Mocky had me laughing. It says that he had a child at the age of 12 and was married to Véronique Nordey who is also his daughter of which he married. Must be a mistake.

I'm sorry to be the negative nelly but I'm not sure this film would be very memorable if it wasn't for the moments of extreme unpleasantness. The characters and plot are not as interesting nor are the set pieces (although admittedly impressively brutal), as kinetic or inventive as those found in better examples of the genre. The lingering, blood curdling r*** scene just makes me wonder about Fulci (and not for the first time!).

Malcolm X is a great film but there is also a great film about Martin Luther King as well?

This is actually my favorite biographic movie. The most important being is that Spike Lee seem to focus on all the important parts of his life and make them stand out, without wasting time on stuff that feel completely irrelevant.

Very odd little film but unforgettable. A French mix of Wicker Man, Jabberwocky and the Mighty Boosh!

The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs, Cross of Iron, The Getaway, Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia, The Killer Elite, Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid, and Straw Dogs are all essentials from what I like to call "The Platinum Age of American Cinema" (1960s-'70s) Great stuff! I can't wait to upgrade them all to 4K when the become available, but I agree with you a bit of the worn-out print theory. The scratches, off color timing don't bother me when its in high def because the image thats there is crystal clear focus. The Blu-ray of The Getaway (put out in 2007) is a prime example. Its film grain is heavy (which I love) There are scratches here and there but the crystal-clear focus is beautiful! I grew up in the '60s and '70s and this is how they normally looked in theaters. Especially in re-release which studios often did back in the day. I'll te;; you three movies from this era that are criminally underknown that I high recommend to younger guys interested in the Platinum Age, Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation," Dustin Hoffman in "Straight Time" (probably his greatest performance) and Gene Hackman and young Al Pacino in "Scarecrow." All are well worth getting on blu-ray and watching over and over!

I would say you have seen now the worst Mastorakis (in my opinion). So, I would say from now on it goes upwards (maybe not much with Ninja Academy and The Naked Truth, but a little bit).

Loved this, all things Hal Ashby and so pleased to have this on Radiance. Come on Radiance, give us more gems like this. There certainly is enough to choose from that haven’t had a U.K. Blu-ray release.

Boy, has the movie industry lost their way of late, and we don't have these amazing character actors anymore. Such a shame. However, we always have these movies to look back at.

This sounds like my sort of film. I’m going to have to hope for a UK release from someone as I’m not importing it. I’m intrigued that the two extras are noir-influencers, as I wasn’t getting a noir vibe from your review? Do you feel it’s a noir, Graham? Or is it noir-adjacent? I love noir, but get a bit fed up of non-noir being sold as such. This is how stuff comes back to bite.

Glad to hear the kind words for The Unseen. I've heard about it for years (being a huge fan of The Uninvited, which has long been a favorite) but was never able to track it down. Though I already own the excellent Criterion release of The Uninvited, I have this new set from Imprint on order, and I'm looking forward to digging into the new features and what sounds to be an undiscovered gem of a film.

Unlike The Uninvited (which I saw when I was very sleepy and totally worked that way) this one didn't work for me. But I am glad that you liked it.

I love Trick R Treat and ive been wanting to give Exorcist 3 a go for a long time, so 4K prompted me to take the plunge. Gone for the Arrow site Trick R Treat original artwork cover as i think that looks a lot better

Its a good set of titles. I have the hellraiser from last year and have pre-ordered the exorcist titles, j-horror titles and trick r treat. I essentially want good versions of them. The exorcist 2 is the ultimate love it or hate it film (I love it as its mad) and has good extras from the scream factory release with added arrow extras.

Sorry manvfilm but got to disagree with you. There's no glee or fun from the hitcher. Infact is it not the opposite? Is he not bored and desperate for an end to the repetitiveness of the killing. But for some reason he can't stop due to being a kinda 'spirit of the road' or some such thing. It's been a good few years since I've given it a watch so I'm very excited about this release. Great channel.

I miss the Arrow that put out more obscure 80' horror films like Blood Rage and Girls Nite Out. These titles are fine but if you already own them I feel like there isn't too much reason to pick these up

If trick r treat gets a blu ray release then it's a day one purchase for me. If 4k only I will wait on a sale in the hope it gets a blu only release by then. The J Horror box set is a must, not sure if it's a day one purchase, good chance it is though. Not going near exorcist 2, I thought it was an awful movie
