ONWARD! A CH Spurgeon Sermon on Philippians 3:13-14
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:13-14
In the sermon "Onward," Charles Spurgeon focuses on Philippians 3:13-14, where the Apostle Paul speaks about pressing forward toward the goal of spiritual maturity and eternal life. Spurgeon exhorts believers to follow Paul's example of forgetting what lies behind and striving for what lies ahead.
He emphasizes the need for Christians to pursue continual spiritual growth, leaving behind past achievements or failures and pushing onward with renewed energy. The sermon encourages perseverance in faith, a relentless pursuit of Christlikeness, and a refusal to become complacent in the Christian journey. Spurgeon highlights the necessity of keeping one's eyes on the heavenly prize and running the race with full dedication.

"The condition in which a believer should always be found is that of progress: his motto must be, 'Onward and upward!'”
"When they asked Napoleon why he continually made wars, he said, 'I am the child of war; conquest has made me what I am, and conquest must maintain me.' The Christian church is the child of spiritual war; she only lives as she fights, and rides forth conquering and to conquer."
"Brethren and sisters, I wish I could stir myself and stir you to a passionate longing after a gracious, consistent, godly life, yea, for an eminently, solidly, thoroughly devoted and consecrated life."

The only watchtower I know of for the lost is within the ones who love them with the same love we know as believers, for it is only the Lord's love that can save them just as His love was and is our only hope. Hate the sin with all your might, but never forget to ask for help in prayer for loving the sinner despite their sin, for more often than not we so easily condemn the sinner and cast them away. There are no watchtowers in the wilderness that I know of, there were none for me.

Doing nothing depends on what is at hand. If you are home, resting and just lying in the quiet, you are doing something. Walking quietly outside, not considered a productive state, you are doing something. If you decline to assist when there is need, I believe this is a sin. Sometimes, your help is the catalyst to the next awakening. Give your brother a dollar or drink, your family your best, your community your time, your country your loyalty.

I once asked God what must I do to be lost. What then if I do nothing? The answer came back if thou dost nothing thou shalt surely be lost. Then I asked Him what then must I DO to be saved? The answer came back NOTHING, there is nothing you can do to be saved. Salvation is not found in doing but rather believing alone in the unique Person and work of Jesus Christ alone. John 3:16 X Matt 7:22-23 Of course as far as doing goes the only persons on earth that really ever stop working are corpses and even those do something. They rot decay or burn. Their molecules still move and spin with Brownian motion around the planet with time and season and orbit and galactic motion. Salvation is therefore not found in our do's and dont's but rather our beliefs alone concerning Jesus Christ the son of God and our Savior. As for working every one lost and saved alike works and likely has never stopped working at something. The only difference between the saved and the lost is where their works are done. In Jesus Christ our outside of Jesus Christ. Prov 21:4 That which is done in Christ is potentially reward-able after it is sorted out and judged by fire. That which is done without having ever believed into Jesus Christ is always either a work of sin or coming short of the glory of God. Without Jesus Christ all our works will perish with us and can only condemn us. if we do not think in these terms rightly dividing our works wrought in God and His work which alone when believed upon rescues us from eternal doom then we will be among the ones saying Lord Lord or Boss Boss did we not do all these wonderful works? If when we die and are brought to the gates of Heaven may it never be we seek entrance by referring to anything we ever did other than place our faith in what we heard Jesus accomplished in God's word.

That's the place you want to be ❤️ I had a terrible childhood, and one day I was tired of the pain, so decided to harden my heart so it wouldn't hurt anymore. God warned me that was wrong, and yet again I was disappointed. He wanted my heart soft, without which I wouldn't be able to hear Him. You have a good soft heart. It's also important to know that we are fallible, and this is where we rely on God's strength and love by faith. We can't do this on our own, and that's why He gave us the Holy Spirit. Repent of the things that you know you did wrong to the best you understand. Ask Him for help to change. Everyday! Even every time you sin. Even if you fall over and over, keep repenting and asking for help. Believe it or not, He delights in helping us 🫂❤️

God does spoke about the 7 churches or lampstands and only 2 were acceptable in God's sight.. these were all believers, who were born again and received the Holy Spirit but still fail to meet God's expectations. I am afraid many churches in all part of the world are doing the same mistake, leaving their first love in Christ. We could be unaware about it or ignorant because many preachers are preaching outside the Bible, not teaching the truth about repentance and sin.
