Hi, my name is “Hawk” (Erik Hawk). I’m a music producer, composer, and songwriter. I’ve been fortunate over the years to have had my music placed in dozens of television shows, to have published several music instruction books, and to be a founding instructor at Berklee Online (Berklee College of Music’s online division). Making music, running my own indie label, and sharing my passion with other aspiring producers and musicians is the best gig in the world. It’s a joy to be here with all of you!

I would imagine with most of these distributers probably have it written into their contracts that you can't collect ad revenue on your music without it going through them because you're circumventing the cut of the money they would get for their service. Folks should read their contracts to make sure. Also copywrite trolls are a thing. They will file copywrite claims on content that's not theirs in hopes people don't bother fighting it because youtube is the worst for copywrite disputes and will generally either just grant the troll the revenue or pull the content. Then it's up to you to fight to get it back, and it's a dificult process. It is illegal for the trolls to do this, but no one ever takes them to court. CZcams's copywrite system makes it really easy to do this. Other platforms leave it up to the troll to actually proceed through the legal system before the pull the video down or give them the revenue.
Do you ever wire up all your drum machines into one mixer and then fire them all up and let em rip?
I still use my HR16 and RX7 and love them both 👍🏾
I feel like a second grader in a calculus class watching this. I dont even know what have these words mean. Assign the macro to the open group send on the main send return channels reverb what
Will this work with a Push 3 standalone?
Great video, thanks! I have a question about midi tracks. Suppose I work on the drums like you do in your video and then I add a midi track and play some synth notes (on the grid. Will they also be playing along with the time map of the kick drum?
Thanks, could not figure out how to get the arp to sound......
I've just figured out what I'm missing to make all my stuff work. A patchbay. Thanks!
youve shown everything except how to open the drum rack itself...
GREAT video - thanks!
Perfect info, thanks mate
I fell like these 2 are the same mic but 1 has a single capsule and the other one can receive sound from both sides. But they sound the same. Am i right?
you need more youtube adds on you videos 👍
Great detail
Thank you so much for this helpful video!
i as a member from 90-2003.....fantastic Service.....on your own you'd never have such great access and great connections to be heard...and more importantly ..heard by the right people
Within the last week I received a Yamaha MC 32/12 I would like to convert it from Analog to Digital, I was looking for a SPDIF and a Snake. Can you point me in the right direction. Thank you. Best Always -HF
Very informative video. I wished there were a video this clear on the oxi one sequencer. All the videos gloss over everything and don’t show how to use. If you ever get an oxi one I would love an in-depth video like this
Hi Erik thanks for the video.... When it comes to Chaining Patterns does it chain the Global patterns on all 4 lanes as one? Thanks
thanks
Great video Erik!
Neato.
Nice feature. But, the visual display is deceptive as it looks like quantizing. The timeline should be moving rather than the waveform. This very subject screws up so many people across many DAWS.

Oh , no. Nooooo, no no no no no Every re- cover, should be better, not worse
How do I play one pad pitched up and down the keyboard?
Do you think this synth might be too difficult for a beginner.
Probly yes
And if its a stereo bus ?
Very cool sir! Love all that vintage gear - I need to explore the used market more and real knobs and faders on synths etc will always beat out a mouse IMHO for jamming around.... Quite the setup!
Lexicon MRC... nice. I've owned LXP-1/5 and PCM70 and never owned one of these. You have them modded by Jim Williams? Awesome... my LXP-1 (long sold) was modded by him and really made it useable. Also had my PCM70 modded by him and wow... no more hiss. LOL
My LXP-1 sounds amazing. The LXP-5 is working but it's front algorithm knob is a little finnicky, but otherwise it sounds fantastic. Yeah, they're quieter and cleaner sounding with his mods.
It’s like a museum over there bro. I’m a have to come out and visit one day.
Nice warm sound, you may not need the gear but that 80's sound is nostalgic and not so easy to create on a computer. 😁😁😁
Amazing 😮 thank you my dear Teacher
Can the LFO at least respond to MIDI clock ?????
all that work and it still sounds like Reason if u know you know :)
Very thorough 🔥
can i use it with my android phone?
for the love of god ableton just give us fixed length audio looping
I mean, they sort of did with Push, but you have to own a Push to access this feature.
Brilliant video! Thanks so much. When adjusting the note of an instrument on the drum rack, is there a way to do this in piano view? As in, a way to test all of the various available notes for that sound using a keyboard, whilst it's in the drum rack
it is a purely analog device, no SOC doing firmware emulation, hence MIDI only does CV and trigger, nothing more, using a minimal MIDI-to-CV chip, hence no MIDI CC. They actually literally copied the 1970s Moog schematics as the patents have expired.
This is gold
Eric i had one original mk1 and sold it ! Then i bought the rackmount version. I bought a cartridge for sampling my own sounds. And i dunno if i sold that cartridge or it is still around ! It was really hard to sample on it and that had me getting rid of those machines. If i ever get across with this piece of sampling gadget, i will definitely get in contact with you. Maybe you can decipher the enigma. Hint: Recordings had to be input at half speed to achieve good quality ...latest info i had and with new DAWs this was better than slowing down a reel to reel tape which i had a TASCAM 4 track but nobody knew that was the trick !! Please confirm this if you can !! I do doubt i still have it but i tell you... those Hex numbers were a nightmare to understand !! Thnx for rhe video !!
Sounds great on my iPhone. But when I listen to master tapes on my otari 5050 is better.
good information what's all so crazy I never seen ad revenue on my music statements it makes me feel the distort is stealing ohh and distorkid is some pimps smh 20% and 14.95 a month wow
Great video so thanks for posting. BTW, the choke issue is by design. The TOM only has choking on the internal sounds and not the Cartridge sounds; I guess Sequential did not want to restrict Cartridge sounds 5 & 6 to only being for Hats (same choke group). I think the sounds that sound like they might be choking in your video are just so short, it appears the case but, they are not. Another option (and the one I went for) is the internal Tauntek TOM16 kit which also has 16 images BUT, you can load any image into a) the Internal sounds (with choking) AND b) the Cartridge sounds (no-choking). So you get 15 custom sounds at once (C8 is not used) and, you get choking if you want.
I'm getting the model d hopefully, and this explains the setup. Thank you!
like this :-)
with rd-9 can u make drum beats like moclaht doma soviet post punk?
Their sound is very much based on the Linn Drum. So, I'd say no if you want the same sorts of sounds you should use Linn Drum samples.
Excellent video. Concise and comprehensive.
Thanks, glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting.
how to you cut down on the noise???? I have a mkiii and I get a lot of noise
It could be something with your machine's input or output amps. All tape has hiss, obviously, but I found this Otari to have a pretty low noise floor. However, it was just serviced by Adrian Pro Audio. He's really good, one of the original 80s Tascam techs (if the rumor is true). So, this machine was sounding cherry. adrianproaudio.com/
