You know what you're getting into.
Cool Cool Mountain in DK64 Very Rough Draft
just got the music, level, and background ported in. i still have to add a death barrier and a floor on the bottom so you can actually fall. this level will be Chunky's, as in his bananas will be scattered around and he'll be tasked with freeing Tiny here. one of my main annoyances with this level at the moment are the grey patches of ground as they look terrible and im gonna try to fix that. as for Jolly Roger Bay im pretty much done, just gotta do some object scripting and thats it. also working on the Aquarium secret area as well which is almost done.

still got a lot to do especially regarding cutscenes. Chunky is unlockable but his cutscene is incomplete so i didnt show it here, and i also need to add more coins and collectables to the level. also, i need to make a bonus game, and im thinking its gonna focus on Enguarde since he doesnt get much love in DK64

y'know i can't quite put my finger on it but i think something's up with the music and background.
It’s probably just the soundfont. As for the background, it might be a bit further down, or it’s just how DK does skyboxes. I don’t think i can really change much there.
The Mario 64 music with the DK64 soundfont goes so hard holy moly
It really does, doesn’t it? Umed did a great job with his music!
Wow i have been waiting to see stuff like this for a long time impressive work
Thanks, I really appreciate it! Still got a lot to do though.
really cool to see someone giving this game some love
This game does need more love, doesn’t it?
Man this is wild
Thanks!
finally some dk64 romhacks
i know right? we need more people out there making rom hacks for this game.
This is super cool!
Thank you so much!
This looks pretty cool! It was pretty clever to use the Baboon Blast barrels for the stone pillar star, and I like the idea of throwing a barrel into the water to use as a platform! Though what would happen if you missed with the barrel? Would you just be stuck and not be able to get the star again, since the barrel seems to not break when in the water? Would be useful to maybe add something that makes the barrel break after like a minute or something, if that's even possible. Also that's more of a castle idea than JRB idea, but do you think it would be possible to change the stairs collision so it acts like a slope, instead of having every individual stairs be unique floors? Because it sounds like it would be annoying to climb them when there's a lot, like the stairs leading downstairs, or the many stairs on the second floor and all.
The barrel actually sinks after a while, and when it hits the bottom it will break and respawn. Unfortunately the best way to fix the stairs is to delete the front of the stair faces and leave only the tops. That way the Kongs will snap up to the next stair. I think it looks kinda ugly so the stairs that aren’t a big offender (like the ones leading to BBB and JRB) will be left intact, but the big staircases will be fixed.
@@DKCrew21 So if I get this right, if the stairs would work as stairs if the floors on them were the only parts that were solid, right? the sides would need to have no collision. What about giving the sides of each steps the same property as the fake walls from that one DK64 multiplayer map, while keeping regular collision for the floors of each steps? would it meet the same requirement as what you said (making the stairs actually work like stairs), while not looking ugly?
That might work? I don’t know though, since I’m restricted to what the map generator can do. I think if it’s a vertical face it’s considered a wall no matter what. Maybe i could try to find a work around though. I’ll look into it.
So this is the opposite of Kaze's Super Donkey Kong 64?
I never thought of it like that. I’m just trying to make a rom hack for dk64 and do stuff that no one has tried before.
@@DKCrew21 Then I hope you succeed.
Thanks! I appreciate that.
Good video but the volume is too low
Thanks! I always forget to turn the volume back up when i make these. I usually have it turned down because i have it running in the background while i work on stuff for the romhack.
Good stuff
Thank you so much!
Slimy Spring Galaxy was my fav galaxy as a kid idk it has such a cozy vibe to it
i can admit that Slimy Spring has some good vibes. i would totally fall asleep there.
Honestly I’ve never heard of you but this is some good shi. You have a really good voice. I honestly belive that if you keep putting lots of effort into these videos you may have some real potential
thank you so much, dude! i really appreciate the kind words, and ill do my best to keep moving forward!
Oh hey! You made it. Yeah the first level is the galaxy for star bits, though you have to load Star 2, over, and over. And do the boulder star. Note it's not actually a Luma you need to feed for the final galaxy - its just an in-built requirement. You won't get it otherwise.
literally just found that out. Banktoad finally has a use now, and the grind has already begun. thankfully i only need about 3000 more starbits. i appreciate you letting me know, otherwise i easily would have skipped collecting starbits throughout the Green Star hunt.
This is siiick 🤢 Can't wait for the full thing.
I’m glad you think so! I’ll most likely release a demo when i finish the entire first floor of the castle.
cool i would love to play it too 😊
I’ll post the demo whenever i get it finished. I only have like five more areas to make, and general bug fixes before i feel comfortable releasing a demo.
alright, i am really looking forward to this :D
Hope you're doing well, this is ultra awesome i hope you keep going. You got my approval for sure :)
Thanks! I’m trying my best to make something cool, and I’m glad you like it.
Not watching any tutorials on the location is the best choice I coulda made on my playthrough. Finding all the green stars doubled my playtime on the game, and then some. Hardest in my opinion was a tie between Wild glide and Rolling Coaster
Honestly, Boo Moon Galaxy and the second Green Star of Fleet Glide Galaxy got me the most. The amount of waiting you have to do just to have a chance at the star kills me.
@@DKCrew21 Boo moon wasn't too challenging for me, but Fleet glide was also very tough. i expected it to be outside like wild glide's, but dang. The ones that required skill to get were generally better than the ones stuck out in the middle of nowhere like Space Storm's and Twisty Trials'
I found Wild Glide to be easier since it’s outside and once you find it it’s just a matter of getting the angle right. The stars that don’t show themselves until later are the ones i find tricky. I’m not as patient as i would like myself to be lol.
Can You Add Krusha?
Maybe? I would have to get around the whole “nothing Krusha does saves” thing and fix the many crashes he has. I’ll see what i can do.
I remember my grind for green stars. Just torturous. Glad it's over now though, definitely worth it in the end. Great video btw!
Thanks man! I remember grinding for these green stars way back when i was a kid, but never beat The Perfect Run. This time i will.
Hey everybody and welcome back to my torture after my Day at purgatory
That’s actually very accurate.
Looks great!
thanks!
There my green stars
I dont regret the comment but u sound like u could be gay or maybe a femboy but other than that your content is good
Weird as comment
I don’t even know how to respond to that. Neither me nor Jimmy are gay or femboys. Weird comment.
Best farming spot for starbits is that one Galaxy in World 6. Melty Monster one with the boulder rolling star.
That would have been amazing to know before i started grinding… thanks for the tip, I’ll put it to use next time i have to feed a luma!
@@DKCrew21 Oh you need 9999 of them for the true final galaxy. Have fun with the grind.
@@zed_infinity oh god no. i had a feeling it was gonna be bad but not that bad. thanks for the warning, and im gonna start grinding while i collect the green stars
Looks great!
No I won't feed you delicious star bites
is this thing transferrable to the finished game?
I have absolutely no idea. I bet it might be at some point. Rom hacking dk64 is getting more and more advanced every day.
Best game ever!
Definitely one of the best!
I have seen that creepy beetle thing before. However, this is the first time I have seen it animated.
It’s also the first time it’s ever been properly spawned.
Very cool! Loving the progression in these update videos!
Thanks! I think all that’s left of Bob omb Battlefield are the last colored bananas, finishing the bonus game, and putting the finishing touches on Tiny and Chunky’s GBs.
Can you do DK64 custom worlds from Super Mario Galaxy?
Maybe? I would definitely have to downgrade the textures but it might be possible. I can test that out whenever i get the chance.
That looks pretty cool! Also pretty clever idea to usethe Battle Arena pad as the boss loading zone (though it's too bad it still leads to Troff n Scoff when exiting it). Also a suggestion, I don't know how possible it would be to do, but do you think it'd be possible to change the DK portal's texture to be any of the paintings itself? If not, maybe making the portal be higher and making the texture invisible could work too, so it looks like you're jumping in the painting :)
Not sure how i could do that. Typically if something is invisible you can’t interact with it, and i did actually think about making the portals have the painting textures, and it would work if they were in separate rooms, but since they’re all gonna be in the same level changing one texture would change them all, i think. As for exiting to Troff n Scoff, i can easily just make it so that it defaults to Bob omb Battlefield instead and you exit from the Battlepad’s location. That’s the next goal, i think.
This looks amazing, great work!
Thanks! I don’t have long until i move on to the next level at this rate!
How do you install the textures in mupen 64 on android?
I’ll be honest, i have no idea. I don’t use android emulator. The best advice i can give is to google it and hope you find something to help you.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Hey, loving these updates. We have a whole bunch of people in the ROM Hacking discord and I think we can help you get through your TODO list better there. It's in GL's map editing tutorial description
I definitely like the sound of that. Help is very much what i need. I would rather not spend eight hours banging my head against a wall to figure stuff out again. Crazy thing is though, I’m already in the discord, but was just too…anxious i guess to say anything, though knowing people are willing to help makes me feel much better about it. Name’s Chaosfighter8 on discord.
Ohhh, this looks pretty cool! The level feels more lively now with objects placed inside of it! Though if I were to suggest one addition, it would be to maybe add the Creepy Castle entrance's bridge to replace the SM64 tilting bridge from Bob-Omb Battlefield.
I had been thinking about doing just that actually! That’s definitely going in next time i work on it. Do you have anymore ideas that you want to share? I’m always happy to hear suggestions.
@@DKCrew21 Hmm, well I was thinking the top of the mountain could have been a boss, but since I doubt bosses could work on regular maps, maybe something like a Kasplat or another strong enemy with a reward could work. The cannons in the map could easily be replaced by DK64 cannons I assume (which could help reaching the floating island without Diddy). Maybe putting a banana inside of the Chain Chomp gate with an actual gate could work also, along with (maybe) a pillar from Lanky's Jungle Japes room or just a regular slam switch there with a fast and/or strong enemy protecting it. I don't have more ideas at the moment, but if I get more, I'll let you know :)
I had a similar idea for the top of the mountain, but instead of a boss, it’s a battle pad that sends you to a boss fight. That way you get the key and it kinda fits how things worked in sm64. As for the Chain Chomp gate i wanted to make it so that it was Diddy’s cell and you had to save him like the base game. I kinda wanna make this hack a full game overhaul so i wanna have you rescue the kongs in different stages and different ways too. The cannons are a good idea though and I’ll look into how those work. Thanks!
Noice
Nostalgia hits hard... Man this was the best ❤ (Thanks for my recommanded...)
This game was one of my favorites when i was a kid. Thanks for watching!
Yes finally
I know, right?
this looks weirdly creepy to me. . . . .
That’s probably because nothing’s there. When i add some enemies and stuff it’ll actually look like there’s people there, lol.
Nice work
Thanks! Also, thanks for making the map tool and the tutorial on how to use it. Took me a while to get everything down, but it was worth it!
@@DKCrew21 awesome I'm glad to see someone using it so well. It's not perfect but it gets the job done
Dude this looks amazing! DK64 rom hacking is becoming more awesome every day!
Thanks, man! I’ll try to make more since this is actually pretty fun. Maybe i’ll make this a full rom hack. Not sure yet.
@@DKCrew21 Oooooh! That would be pretty fun, this becoming a full rom hack! Maybe custom enemies and collectibles could even be added, that would be pretty epic!
Keep it up
Thanks!
Loving this series!
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
The behavior confirms the enemy is based on Click-Clack enemy from DKC2 or Knik-Knak from 3. Though it's kinda odd that it's required to jump on the Beetle to finish it off while it looks like there's barely enough height in that jump, maybe DK could jump higher in earlier state of development. (Also, the way how it wiggles it's eyes while chasing the player)
It didn’t just take a jump, i had to simian slam it to kill it! Which makes it pretty special, i think. Such a cool enemy, and i wish it actually made a real appearance.
@@DKCrew21 I guess Rare wanted to stick with melee attacks and other abilities while making the stomp optional (At least mostly with exception of Killer Tomatoes). The instance being how Klobber in DKC2 is vurnerable to jumps, which is not the case in DK64, where they have to be dealt with orange grenades or stronger attacks.
Sounds about right. The stomp is hard to use on most enemies. Whenever i try to use it i just end up getting hurt myself rather than jumping on the enemy.
Good vid
Thank you so much!
How do we use this with Gliden64? Shame it is only in Jabo filename format. Gliden64 is required for my reshade to work with Donkey Kong 64. Would go great with the textures. Reshade does not work with Jabo.
Reshade works with Gliden64? I did not know that! I’ll see if i can get Glide to rip textures and if i can then i’ll make another version of the pack for Gliden64!
@@DKCrew21 There is a "toggle textures dump" option under hotkeys in the gliden64 graphics settings, there should be documentation too online. It just uses different filenames, the dump itself is the same type of image.
got it working! turns out it doesnt work on PJ64 3.0 so i had to downgrade. i'll begin work on the texture pack tomorrow!
@@DKCrew21 following. would love some instructions on how you made it work
are you talking about installing the pack? if so, i put a link to how to use the pack in the description
Could you make like a tutorial of how to get this working because I can't... please? (I'm desperate as you can see)
I don’t think i can make an effective tutorial. Is there anyway i can help directly? Like, when i get home from work i would be happy to give you some help.
@@DKCrew21 I'm not 100% sure unless you could help me on discord. Or could you just send me the rom? Or do I need to do the whole prosses? (Also, I live in Australia, so the time is probably different to where you are) (it is 7:24 PM here)
What’s your discord? I can help on there once i get out of work.
