Airbag lights on these are a pain in the arse. If you clear it and it comes back it can be the connector, could be cables kinked.. Basically if the satellite module behind the carpet between the chair and the door detects a slightly off resistance anywhere in the loom or the airbag itself youll get a dash light that has to be reset using a OBD tool. Cheapest way i've found is BMW Scanner 1.4, 20 quid cable and software on ebay and you can do all the coding / error reading. Much cheaper than getting a launch device or equiv. Replacing airbag also requires coding in the VIN into the replacement module. Same with anything else in the airbag system When you changed the door.. be wary of water ingress through the window seal that runs down the inside and is supposed to drain out the bottom to the outside of the car. This can leak down and seep into the cockpit and damage the airbag satellite module which will cost you 60 quid. Worth replacing the cheap foam you cut out with something. I also coated the inside of the door around std rust areas with Waxoyl Top content though man, decent editing too keep at it! I hope you still have the Zed, i've seen these with standalone ECU's turbo'ed to 450 bhp before needing to upgrade the fuel system (worth installing LSD tho). would be good to hear what you're going for in your project

Has the engine had frequent oil changes? The colour of the inside of the Vanos suggests that this wasn't a regular thing?

Just wondered if you have done the disa valve? I haven’t done the vanos yet, but I took my disa valve off and it was completely knackered. Rebuilt it and the car goes way better now. You have probably done it already but if not then it has to be worth taking a look at it.

Nice, thanks for this series. Bought a Z4 2003 last year, as a project car. Hopefully not as big a project as this car, but I did manager to fix the vaccum seal leak, by replacing the air intake that split there on the throttle body, cleaning the disa valve (needs a rebuild) and putting a new seal on the petrol cap. i also ran injector additive on premium unleaded. Getting 36-40mpgs now out of a 20 year old 3L turbo engine :) I've Got a long way to go, and hopefully sorted for the MOT in sept Full service and deep clean next

did you have to weld the hangar by the flexi to the exhaust? that’s the one thing that concerns me

Great videos and you clearly have a lot of knowledge and experience tinkering with engines. My z4 is similar age but 91k. I’ve only had it a couple of weeks so am working through things like you are, not gone as deep though by far yet but I’ve got some gaskets and a new expansion tank and whatnot on order. The vanos system looks like a bit of a pain to sort but I must admit it would be nice to have done for peace of mind. Just curious did you have any symptoms of dodgy vanos before you did this? My car has rough idling when it starts but it seems to settle down after a while. I have no idea if the performance is affected as I haven’t had one before so have no frame of reference. Did you feel an improvement afterwards?

Just bought one of these too. Maldives blue E85 3.0i manual, same wheels as yours, probably the best offered from factory. Really nice cars. Will also do a full service, then upgrade tyres, discs, pads and fluid in preparation for some track days. Looking around for lighter wheels and a fruity exhaust too.

Loving this videos as looking to get a Z4 myself. With regards to the rain etc, I cannot recommend getting a pop up gazebo enough. You can get them cheap, they compact right down and infinitely useful.

Excellent progress! the plastic BMW uses for the cooling system is shite, it's like they chose the most brittle stuff on purpose...might be a good idea to replace the lot for reliability...really enjoying the series...I'm learning a lot, hunting for a 2007-08 meself...

Great work cleaning up the haze! some thin 3M butyl tape around the seal and perhaps an inconspicuous pin hole on the bottom of the light if water ever gets in again, had this issue with some OEM Valeo B6 Audi lights...Keep up the great Z4 content! Just subbed!
