This was a great movie if you care about the authenticity of that time period when Hussars were the elite Cavalry officers. I’ve loved riding horses all my life and I’ve done quite a bit of research into Cavalry warfare during my spare time while I was serving in the military. This movie does a really good job of portraying correct uniforms Hussars wore during the Napoleonic War time period, correct hair styles (long braided hair with handlebar mustache), riding styles during that period. What this movie fails is the plot. It goes on for way too long to hold my interest. Also there is no way in real life that David Carradine character would not kill the adversary in that last duel. This is a man who was tormented during his entire military career by that psychopathic short jackass. He would not have hesitated for one second before killing him for good. That’s what I would have done, not one iota of hesitation whatsoever.
