It would be interesting to know what became of Earth, if it's still out there, is it the distant future or the modern era and everyone was abducted in an earlier period, or was the earth destroyed and they are all that remains? John obtained incredible power and knowledge from the strangers, I'm surprised with that didn't come some information regarding where they're from or how they got there. Perhaps deep in ruins of the strangers domain there may still be that information. I can see John helping Schreber search for it since the ending was left open. After all in the end all John really did was assume the Strangers' duties of controlling the city and reshaping everyone's memories. I believe Sutherland's performance was inspired by Peter Lorre. Also, when he is imprinting himself into John's memory, he speaks normally. It is because he wants to present himself as healthy human being, even though in reality he is a man broken man, who was tortured (note his scars and limp), yet he survived.

Its fucking wild to me this hasn't been expanded into a streaming series at this point, but I'm glad because there is no doubt they would fuck up in the current climate of wokeness. This movie is such a hidden gem.
