    Great video! I was an individual stock investor while I was younger, the portofolio grew to the point where life ended up becoming too busy and I was unable to manage it properly. Turned it over to a planner where I invested in mutual funds. Now at retirement, I have taken back all the accounts and manage a handful of ETF's on my own to fund my retirement. Have gone full circle!

    When our son was 16ish, we paid fo his clothes. He would pay and then be reimbursed by us. Eventually he became interested in $100 T-shirts, which we were not so keen on. We came up with a monthly clothes allowance which had to cover everything from underwear to winter jackets. This way, he could buy his $100 T, knowing there was still much to buy throughout the rest of the year. He learned to budget and choose wisely. He also had a job so could top up purchases if he wanted something that badly. 6 years later he is totally responsible with his finances 😊🏠💰

    Thanks for the link at 008:05. I learned something new - it is prudent to depart from Canada (if for more than six months) on the first day of the calendar month to effectively get an extra month of OAS. Why so? From the section 'If You leave Canada for More than Six Months': ""If you do not qualify for receiving Old Age Security outside Canada, your payments will stop if you are out of the country for more than 6 months after the month you left." Oddly the link to which countries *don't have* a Social Security Agreement with Canada does not list them. Neither does it list countries that do. This strikes me a major lack of information. Result of staying more than 183 days out of country... Provincial benefits - drop to 0% Various additional federal and provincial handouts - drop to 0% Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) - drops to 0% CPP - remains at 100% OAS - varies The reason I hesitate to expatriate is because as a low-income senior if I do so I will lose 65-75% depending on whether I do so in a country with reciprocal treaty. Most do not. And all of this is without considering what the new country charges. For example, Thailand is starting to tax even what one has paid in Canada! But I will pay close attention to 5:09 (NR5 form). Never heard of this. Funny, I asked many questions of Service Canada and the civil servant never mentioned this NR5 form. It becomes rather complicated in my view, having to talk to both SC and CRA to get all the information, maybe even consulting a professional.

    On the TD app for HYLD it states 11.21% monthly yield. Does this mean for every 10k - the return is $1121? Is the math correct or does is mean $1121 annually which is $93/month?

    A good informational-video would be about Excel formulas needed to account for the basic unused-room, new contribution-room, withdrawals when dealing with gains or (non-GIC) losses during the year so that the next-years figure is perfect. It is clear that losses whether realized or not REDUCE account-size which cannot be recouped with putting in new cash to compensate for the loss, while gains INCREASE it, so “investing” imprudently with higher risk-reward investment-vehicles like penny-stocks can seriously damage a TFSA account if it goes south on you. Agree? 😊

  • @Gengingen
    @Gengingen Pƙed 3 dny

    Losses do not INCREASE contribution room as well. This means if one bought a penny stock with 100% of the money & the company goes belly up, you can lose 100% of the contribution room, right? 😊

    My parents were horrible with money and finances. I learned a lesson as a teenager about poor money management, poverty and what happens when there isn't a safety fund. I am very frugal as a result, always been a saver and strive to build my wealth. I found it difficult to impart this to my children. They are so influenced by friends and media. I try and they have always had to work to buy things that aren't necessities. One kid is a saver and the other a spender. It actually makes me crazy đŸ€Ș We haven't shared everything about our finances because if they knew, they might expect handouts 😂 I want them to be independent, so I don't think it's a good idea showing our investment account balance 😊

    Brandon, you are very smart to teach your daughter money spending and saving principles. I would suggest using actual money/coins and not a credit card. I remember as a child also falsely believing that anything could be bought back then by a cheque. I didn't understand that there needed to be money in a banking account for those cheques to work. I made my mother's life miserable, insisting that she could just use a cheque whenever she said she didn't have money to buy me something I wanted. Regardless, your daughter is so adorable and will be in great shape in life because of your lessons.
