until now, end of june, this predication is completely wrong, unfortunately
Great video! I was an individual stock investor while I was younger, the portofolio grew to the point where life ended up becoming too busy and I was unable to manage it properly. Turned it over to a planner where I invested in mutual funds. Now at retirement, I have taken back all the accounts and manage a handful of ETF's on my own to fund my retirement. Have gone full circle!
Title stated TRIPLE???
When our son was 16ish, we paid fo his clothes. He would pay and then be reimbursed by us. Eventually he became interested in $100 T-shirts, which we were not so keen on. We came up with a monthly clothes allowance which had to cover everything from underwear to winter jackets. This way, he could buy his $100 T, knowing there was still much to buy throughout the rest of the year. He learned to budget and choose wisely. He also had a job so could top up purchases if he wanted something that badly. 6 years later he is totally responsible with his finances đđ đ°
Happy Birthday Marc! Brandon, you mentioned you would add a few books to help teach money/investing to children to the description. I would love to have this list to get ready to teach my 3 and 1 year old when they're ready :)
Brandon is okay and nice but Mark has the Wisdom and History and Knowledge that I take more Seriously.
Happy belated Birthday Marc , hope you had a good one
Happy birthday Marc!đđđ
if i had enough money i`d purchase at least several shares from each military`s companies in US and Germany. Unfortunately prices are huge.. (( i saw and felt myself what Patriots, Stingers and Javelins can do, and that worth it
Brandon is so fortunate to have a dad like Marc, not only his friend but also can teach him so many things in life. I wish I had a dad like that.
Happy Birthday Marc!
HB Marcđ
Can Marc also share how HIS upbringing influenced his financial behavior and values? Great video idea btw
Vry knowledgeable thanksđ
Thanks for the link at 008:05. I learned something new - it is prudent to depart from Canada (if for more than six months) on the first day of the calendar month to effectively get an extra month of OAS. Why so? From the section 'If You leave Canada for More than Six Months': ""If you do not qualify for receiving Old Age Security outside Canada, your payments will stop if you are out of the country for more than 6 months after the month you left." Oddly the link to which countries *don't have* a Social Security Agreement with Canada does not list them. Neither does it list countries that do. This strikes me a major lack of information. Result of staying more than 183 days out of country... Provincial benefits - drop to 0% Various additional federal and provincial handouts - drop to 0% Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) - drops to 0% CPP - remains at 100% OAS - varies The reason I hesitate to expatriate is because as a low-income senior if I do so I will lose 65-75% depending on whether I do so in a country with reciprocal treaty. Most do not. And all of this is without considering what the new country charges. For example, Thailand is starting to tax even what one has paid in Canada! But I will pay close attention to 5:09 (NR5 form). Never heard of this. Funny, I asked many questions of Service Canada and the civil servant never mentioned this NR5 form. It becomes rather complicated in my view, having to talk to both SC and CRA to get all the information, maybe even consulting a professional.
On the TD app for HYLD it states 11.21% monthly yield. Does this mean for every 10k - the return is $1121? Is the math correct or does is mean $1121 annually which is $93/month?
My biological dad was clueless about finances and I promised myself at a very young age that I would never be like him.
When did investing become readily accessible to the ordinary person? Sure, you could buy stocks but not as easy as now.
A good informational-video would be about Excel formulas needed to account for the basic unused-room, new contribution-room, withdrawals when dealing with gains or (non-GIC) losses during the year so that the next-years figure is perfect. It is clear that losses whether realized or not REDUCE account-size which cannot be recouped with putting in new cash to compensate for the loss, while gains INCREASE it, so âinvestingâ imprudently with higher risk-reward investment-vehicles like penny-stocks can seriously damage a TFSA account if it goes south on you. Agree? đ
Losses do not INCREASE contribution room as well. This means if one bought a penny stock with 100% of the money & the company goes belly up, you can lose 100% of the contribution room, right? đ
Happy Birthday Marc! we just helped our kid open a checking account, he is 4, absolutely no idea what it is for, but it looks like he had fun.
Iâm out of town for the calgary stop over. Otherwise Iâd be there. You guys are great. Keep it up.
... and what cutie : peeease with a smitten smile đ
A 2 Years old dreaming about money đđđ. Great to see you two . Happy birthday Marc . You are awesome!
Marc, you are the dad I wish I had to learn about money! đ Happy birthday
My parents were horrible with money and finances. I learned a lesson as a teenager about poor money management, poverty and what happens when there isn't a safety fund. I am very frugal as a result, always been a saver and strive to build my wealth. I found it difficult to impart this to my children. They are so influenced by friends and media. I try and they have always had to work to buy things that aren't necessities. One kid is a saver and the other a spender. It actually makes me crazy đ€Ș We haven't shared everything about our finances because if they knew, they might expect handouts đ I want them to be independent, so I don't think it's a good idea showing our investment account balance đ
Happy Birthday Marcđ
This was an amazing video. Thank you too both of you so much!!!
Great conversation; would love to see more like this ;-)
Brandon: "It's not funny" - as he proceeds to laugh uncontrollably LOL
Brandon, you are very smart to teach your daughter money spending and saving principles. I would suggest using actual money/coins and not a credit card. I remember as a child also falsely believing that anything could be bought back then by a cheque. I didn't understand that there needed to be money in a banking account for those cheques to work. I made my mother's life miserable, insisting that she could just use a cheque whenever she said she didn't have money to buy me something I wanted. Regardless, your daughter is so adorable and will be in great shape in life because of your lessons.
What a genuinely beautiful father and son conversation, and many thanks for sharing this with us. I wish we could be open to have these discussions in my family when the money was always a taboo topic.
Warren Buffett did a kids show that kinda stopped during covid, but all the practical lessons are there to master your money youtube.com/@secretmillionairesclub?si=hNXB8GfA9uGMQcMB
So they have to hold about 25 billion buffer for 250 plus billion in negative amortized mortgages? Thereâs a billion alone in defaulted mortgages in toronto
That's wishful thinking. TD is trying to control the narrative. It won't work. We are headed for the cliff.
Interesting Conversation!

What do u think about Proshares Ultra Semiconductor Etf's(USD) ETF?
Its inevitable, Canada has never been a country to grow quickly enough to compete with the many economical giants of the world, hence immigration. This time they went a little far in my opinion, however once that boom stabilizes the economy will begin to grow quickly again. We always learn from our mistakes.
even the most optimistic person wouldn't believed this lol we have close to a trillion dollars of capital that left the country recently ...

Paper wealth. They donât consider the all time debt growing at the fastest pace.
Hey,why not a trillion,what a load of!
Our economy is struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
The USA treasury issue BONDS (debt, big credit card), the US-FED print money to buy the BONDS (35 trillion in debt) the monarchy direct Congress, Senators, and White House to spend that money in wars against developing economies, Russia, China, soon India, Brazil, maybe even Mexico. (Slavery TAXES pays the bill).
The best thing to do if you're a saver or retiree is move to Mexico where the bank rate is 11.25 percent. Yes you can get an honest return on you money in Mexico.
