Ha! I like that. Thanks.
This is a super awesome "pro-tip". Thank you for making this video.
I’m confused, I think is carbon that caused bullet to stuck inside when fired.
Such an easy fix to endless frustration, the result of just thinking outside of the box 💪🎯💨
I never looked at depriming as an extra step since I remove it before wet tumbling and annealing anyway. But still a good idea for those who don’t
I appreciate that you don't dictate one process as the only process. I watched Greg's video, and it made a lot of sense, although my process is a bit different. I deprime, clean (wet with small SS pieces rather than pins), lube and full length size (w/o button), trim, clean again to remove any shavings from the trimming. In an effort to get more consistent bullet seating (and release), I dip the necks into Imperial Dry Neck Lube, and run over a neck mandrel. I then use a nylon brush to run through the necks. My thought is that it will distribute the Imperial Dry Neck Lube in a consistent manner to the inside of the necks. This will differ from Greg's process, and unfortunately I don't have an AMP press to determine if brushing the Dry Neck Lube actually results in consistent seating pressure, as I just have to go on "feel". My ES and SD's seem to indicate that the process is working, but who knows.
Best, simple instructions for a new reloader. Many thanks
I could never figure out why Hornady never had a hollow spot on their comparator base…
Or you can just pop primers out so that the crud does not accumulate around your press shaft and wear it out.
Love these short tips&Tricks! Keep it up, great work
I've used the funnel in my first Lee basic reloading kit for over 10 years and I have only spilt powder a few times with it. This is over the course of making literally tens of thousands of rounds.
I deprime, anneal, then size. Probably more time but it's only 40ish rounds a week.
Sweet tip, Thank you for all the information you share with us.
That is a good tip. I purchased one of those anvils and carefully drilled out the center so the primer wouldn’t be touching. The only problem is that the anvil surface isn’t perpendicular to the comparator. I gave up and started using my hand decapper.
Ahhh. great tip! That is an awesome way to get a more precise headspace measurement. I’ve definitely run into variance with those measurements that I couldn’t explain.
Thank you for sharing, I bet a lot of people never thought about it.
Myself included
Nice!
great video will watch more
Or...just use redding instant indicator after primer has been removed?..
Sweet little trick, thanks!
Thanks. I just did a batch of 300 WIN MAG resizing via shoulder bump method for the first time. They chambered as advertised, but my neck tension was low. I could spin the bullet in the case. What might I have done wrong?
Awesome tip!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank You
Why cantcha just knock the primer out first? Gotta do that before you wet tumble with pins anyway. Right? Honestly. LMAO.
Lot of guys tumble with the primer in for a couple reasons; steel pins get stuck in flash holes and/or protects primer pockets from being damaged by pins. Edit: there may be other reasons but I don't know them.
@@whitesturgeon believe me, I am not an advocate for wet tumbling with pins. But a lot of CZcams reloading nerds are. Most people who do that only do it because they saw some "expert" on YT doing it. They've never bothered to just dump their straight wall cases into the corncob before they go to bed and then see how shiny it is in the morning. Meanwhile, the guy who makes, markets and distributes the pins is laughing all the way to the bank, muttering something about "suckers". Haha
I don’t know man wet tumbling works fine and even has some advantages over dry tumbling. And what makes you think the corn cob guy ain’t laughing his way to the bank as well?😂
@@whitesturgeon oh I'm sure it works. But it doesn't get them any cleaner than corncob and it's a schitt ton more hassle. Guy who invented corncob is probably pushing up daisies as its been with us for decades n decades while wet tumbling with pins is newer than....CZcams. Use the time you gain back by using corncob to spend with your family. They'll thank you for it. 🤠
Frankford arsenal deprimer tool. No fancy tool needed, other than the normal comparator
This is a neat idea. I use the short action customs comparators with a primer base, which has a hole in the base specifically for this issue.
Hahaha it’s never bothered me much I usually deprime before I check if but as always your full of slick ideas. Thanks
@Dlt704.. You took the words right out of my mouth. This guy is the Mr wizard of reloading.😊
Thank you Sir!
Or just deprime before measuring?
Also an option, but he's giving an alternative here.
This would work if you have a universal depriming die, I found this tip helpful
@@MrGatiepie This is what I do. Universal decapping die, tumble, then do my resizing measuring etc.
I like to deprime and resize in the same action - saves one whole step. There are a lot of people who do the same as me. This tip is great for people like us.
@@nathanbailey9153 I prefer to resize cleaned brass (including the pockets) - but you do you.
New subscriber. all the best from the UK
This is amazing advice.
😅😅😅
Damn. Can't believe I never thought of that. lol
Someone taught me another approach to dealing with fired primer protrusion. Use a primer seating tool to seat the primer deeper into the primer pocket.
Опередил , то же всегда так делаю 😊
Just grab your hand priming tool and seat the primer back into the case. Takes about 5 seconds. Joe
That's exactly how I've been checking shoulder bump... Couldn't see any other way to do it accurately.
Big Brains!!!
I’ve been using an RCBS Precision Micrometer for this job. Seems to work well, and I’ve been trusting it. It has a circular cutout to accommodate backed out or cratered primers.
Awesome Tip thank you
That’s a great idea!
Deprime first. That used primer can give you some whack measurements because of a slight raise in height of the entire case.
Those whole point of this tip was so that you DON"T have to de-cap first... decapping is the final part of my brass prep. My order is tumble, anneal, size, expand, tumble again to remove lube, trim, then decap. The purpose behind this is if you decap after the first tumbling, then you have to worry about making sure flash holes are cleared after the second tumbling & trimming... if you decap last, then the pin is clearing out any media/cuttings in the flash holes for you before re-priming.
@@frankw7266 I don't think he watched the video before commenting
Genius idea. Thanks
Curious- Using your example with that .223 case..1.456 bumbed to 1.4535... let's say you for some reason bumbed a case to 1.452 inadvertently. Would you expect a velocity difference for that 1 round?
No, not enough to be outside normal SD/ES for whatever load you're using. If you had a hundred shorter rounds and compared them to a hundred regular you might see a tiny difference in average but I'm not even sure it would show up then.
Not only "no", but f@#$ NO!
@MMBRM thank you for replying. One more ? For you. Let's say you seat a bullet (without powder by mistake)...and then use a kinetic puller to remove...and then fill with powder and reseat...would you expect that round to be an outlier due to different neck tension?
@@TheSaintsAdvantage I'm not a pro but i'll take a stab; I would expect the neck tension to change but whether or not it's an outlier depends on your typical results. If you shoot 2 MOA, you probably won't notice anything different. If you shoot very tight groups, than everything is in play. Just a guess though.
@whitesturgeon good reply. Thank you. I was really looking to understand about velocity not so much accuracy (I know they can be related).
That was and is a great help. THANX.
And you can measure shoulder bump using two bullet inserts sometimes. A .40 cal. bullet insert will work instead of a .400 case insert if there is no bullet in the case. Same goes for .375"and others. Works well if you are working with a long cartridge.
I think he's understating his statistical acumen-- any engineer has had at least some stats training.
Wow this is great material
3 hours in the tumbler 😳 ….I accidentally left mine in overnight and that was the end of my primer pockets - had to throw them all out - so its harsh way to clean if left in too long - im now switching to ultrasonic cleaning which can clean better in 10 minutes and not get bashed around
👍
Thank you for the video. Great information. Have a PVC burden of about 37% so an ablation is very possibly in my future.
Is that a typo Keith? Why yes it is - maybe you were referring to the Lee Dip sticks - /jk
