Travelling Australia in the Summertime - Ningaloo Coast - Winderabandi and South Lefroy
#whale #caravanlife #beach
Join us in this week's adventure as we leave Winderabandi and continue down the stunning Ningaloo coast to South Lefroy. This campsite offered incredible views, though the winds picked up as we settled in. We welcomed the New Year with some much-needed family time, leaving the cameras behind for an evening of unplugged celebration.
In this episode, we also explore the historic ruins of the Norwegian Bay Whaling Station. Located on Ningaloo Station, this site tells a fascinating story of the past, from its beginnings in 1915 with the Norwegian Whaling Company, to its closure in 1957 after a long and eventful history. The remnants of this once-thriving operation are still visible today, with rusted machinery and the foundations of buildings offering a glimpse into a bygone era. Don't miss this captivating journey back in time!

    Cb is citizens band and is better in hilly terrain like NZ but won't get long range distances unless you use a 10 foot aerial on your car unlike a UHF which stands for Ultra high frequency, and works better on flat country and you get better coverage over long distances but the signal gets weak in low hill terrain.

    CB is citizens band radio on the AM frequency still in use today but the major one that took over is UHF Ultra high Frequency that is all over our country now but with limited range off site tho , old CB on the AM band can put out twice the power on side band you can talk to people on the other side off Australia or in America it was great

    Hahahaha, I knew that was going to happen, 20 psi is good for the track, but any beach soft sand driving need to go down 12 psi front, 14 psi rear and caravan down to 15 psi, lesson learned. Really no need to get stressed, this is as hubby said, part of the adventure. If you never get bogged, haven't really been trying. Just have the correct recovery gear and you are good to go. Whenever you are planning a trip like this, get on CZcams, and watch what others do, tyre pressures are king when do this type of 4WDriving. That was painful to watch, I will give a little more advice if you would like, do not be scared to go down to 8 psi all round, DO NOT FORGET THE VAN, they are one big anchor.

    • @onlyleavingfootprints
      @onlyleavingfootprints Před 17 dny

      Hahaha yes, but see Jon has been 4wding for 40 years lol. He knows what to do with tyre pressures, he is and will even admit it that he is to lazy to drop the pressures to much because it's takes to long lol. He then says hey you have to wait forever to pump all the tyres back up again and he couldn't be bothered. He likes the challenge and the fun of it all, before dropping pressure. In the meantime it makes me nervous as anything but he has never got us in a position he hasn't got us out off. Thanks for watching 👀

    I used a magnet to mount my remote with the kings inverter. Works well and it’s not permanent

      Good idea 💡, thing with this one is the wire sticks out straight from the back, it doesn't drop out from the bottom. But you have given me a penny for thoughts.

    Another informative video. I wish more people did these thorough walk through videos. It really helps separate the good from the bad for future reference. Thanks.

    Why not put your bread in one of those containers with the green lids …keep the ants out! Nice to see the memorial plaque for the fisherman who drowned during Cyclone Bobby Hugh Hatch was a good friend of my brother

      Haha yes good idea but don't think a loaf would fit. How cool that you got to see that memorial of your brothers friend. It was a nice tribute

    How do you connect to the headlight fitting. Where do you run the harness?

    • @onlyleavingfootprints
      @onlyleavingfootprints Před 28 dny

      The harness is screwed to the side of guard under bonnet and the wire run up the side of the window. You need to buy a headlight adapter to plug in at the back of the headlight.

    Looking at the route you have taken so far its nearly a carbon copy of what we did last year. We left from our home in Lake Macquarie went up the coast to Grafton then crossed The Great Divide to Glen Innes. I did my back on that trip when we got as far as Ceduna and my wife had to tow the van home as I couldnt turn my head. We only just got back from doing the bits that we missed last year, This time we crossed NSW did the Eyre Peninsula, the Flinders Ranges, went up the Stuart Hwy to Uluru and Alice Springs then back home through outback Qld. We bought our first caravan 7 years ago when I retired from full time work it had all the things that we thought we wanted , 2 years ago I retired from work completely so we had one built with the things that we wish we had done the first time unfortunately you dont know that until you actually start travelling. We were fortunate that the caravan dealer we went with this time round you started with the showroom layout then you could add things, remove things, change the layout virtually do anything we did lots of things even moved a window.. We have doubled our solar, have 2 x 100AH Lithium batteries, 3000W inverter, DC to DC charger etc. We find we dont use the A/C much the Sirroco fans have been great even when in the tropics..We also avoid travelling in the north or central Australia in the hotter months thats when its good to have a home base... When we were in Onslow we camped at a caravan park that was close to the marina it was bit further away from the town center but it was a pretty good spot to take a couple of days break..

      Great story. What caravan have you got now? Yes we would not travel at this time of year again but as mentioned before we were on a time frame to meet our daughter and this was the quickest way
