These are some early 1980s television advertisements from South Africa. Originally recorded on Beta-Max, copied to VHS and then DVD. Now converted to digital, the quality is not good, but still worth a laugh.
Cheesecake 1980s TV show. SABC/BBC Collaboration.

Cheesecake was a children's show broadcast on South African television in the early 80s. Like most of the shows being imported from around the world, this one was an SABC/BBC collaboration. This is the only episode I have, recorded originally on beta-max tape, then VHS, copied to DVD and now digital, so please excuse the quality. You really can't expect much. However it is the only copy of the ...
Opal Cam

Quarter Sized Facet Opal flying at TMAC field; Brisbane Australia. This time the camera was strapped to the wing of the Opal. It was late on Friday afternoon. The sun was in an awkward spot as always and so the approach had to be cut short so I could see the plane.
Quarter Size Opal Flies

Quarter Sized Facet Opal flying at TMAC field; Brisbane Australia. It was a windy day, but we got the plane in the air all the same. Landings were hot. I have to learn to slow her down more.
Flying Flea at Watts Bridge

Footage of Fred Byron's beautifully built HM290 flying at Watts Bridge. Pilot: Patrick Martin; September 2013. Please excuse the date on the bottom right corner. I still haven't worked out how to change that and also the tape on the wing. It became progressively loose as the flight went on.

Spyro III rc gyroplane. Take off in serious breeze with disastrous results. I guess I need to learn more about gyroplanes.
Flying the HM290/3FB

First flight in this HM290/3 FB after nearly 18 months. Recently did a refresher in the drifter to ensure I could still fly and then it was time to get some air under the tyres. Please ignore the date and time in the onboard camera shots. I don't know how to adjust it on this camera.

Who's the singer ? Great film! Congrats
The singer is Don Partridge
Aucun doute la-dessus ce " Pou-du-ciel " est vraiment magnifique avec un beau paysage aussi! Par contre quel type de moteur a le HM-290?!
I used to live in that era😂
Hello FleaFlyer1, Have you used the original R. Grunberg set of plans?, what kind of engine do you use?, any modification or improvement to the design?, Will I fit on it with 6ft of tall?, thanks for share your video
awesome, what airfoil you use on this wing?
Wow Paddy. Well done, that's amazing and very brave of you.
Thank you all for the positive comments. The whole day eventually came together perfectly and the outcome as ou can see was really great. I will pass on all the support to dad.
Nice flight , well done !
Wow well done, another ready for the skies.
Well done Paddy! What a truly momentous occasion. We’re celebrating with you.
Congratulations Paddy....and what a lovely landing !
Hi Fleaflyer1. I would like to catch up with you as I'm doing a history of Pricerite engineering who made the model kit form of the Opal. If your Opal is still flying, I would be keen to get some pictures and video and get your story. I manage a facebook page called Aeroflyte Australia and Model Builders Downunder. You're welcome to join. Pete.
Hallo Mr. Martin, Mark Stanley guided me to you. You have his HM293FB. I hope to save those plans from ending up a attic. I would like to do with them what i did for the English HM293, HM360/380 plans. I was permitted to place them online on my website. That is why i hope to reach Fred Byron. Would like to ask his permission too. Can you guide me towards him? You can see my work on Flying Fleas if you google on nestofdragons and flying flea. Thanks in advance.
You are Welcome. There is another video of this plane. Flying Flea at Watts Bridge. Enjoy.
I am very happy to see this video. It shows a very nice Flying Flea. Thanks for spreading the word of the Flying Flea. It deserves it. Especially after the passing of the last Flying Flea designer, Pierre Mignet. Luckily the last family member made the plans of the HM14, HM293, HM360 and HM380 freely available.
Hi Buzzy1147 No this flea has never shown any bad characteristics. Kirk Sutton's flying tips are worth a read and after that I recommend time in something draggy and slow. Possibly a drifter if you can get one. Then you should be right. This plane is a joy to fly. It is different to a conventional plane, but a joy none the less.
sites.google.com/a/flyingflea.com.ar/www/home/pilot-notes2
have you ever seen any bad characteristics in the flea? A friend is building 2 of them and guess who the test pilot is going to have to be since he doesn't fly.
Hi Paul, You are on. We will make it a plan. The flea naturally 3 points every time making it quite easy to land. Will talk to you soon.
...and nice three-pointer!
Awesome Pat! I've got a few GoPro cameras which would could mount to all sorts of interesting spots on the Flea... let me know when next you plan to head out. :)
I would not say it was uneventful - I did have to drag the bugger half a mile back across the field! But Yes, it was uneventful as far as handling and landing was concerned. Glad to see it back in the air and of course anyone flying a Drifter can handle that flea so long as they understand how to control pilot induced turbulence ... hold a turn and all is OK.
Essene or should I call you by your real name Rob. Once you were an advocate of the flea. Yet now you seem to spend your time bagging it. Your distinctive writing style again gives you away..This flea flies very similarly to the drifter in approach speed. As you are very well aware Kirk did have an engine failure in this aircraft. It was uneventful
Nice.
Looking good, Pat. :)
