    Thanks so much for this video. I recently began art journaling, and wanted to apply bronze gilding wax to some tiny black metal hinge clips I'd bought. After applying it to the first one, I knew I'd done something wrong because it looked awful! Found your video, and now I know I applied it **way** too thickly. (I was using a cotton swab to get the product into all the nooks and crannies, and really loaded up the swab with the wax). I'm going to switch to a fingertip and a very thin layer, and apply a second thin layer only if I miss some spots. Thanks again!

    Put clear wax on first and you can manipulate the black better

    • @valkyriesardo278
      @valkyriesardo278 Před 2 lety

      Agree. Skipping the clear wax application gives inferior results. Black wax does not blend and shade as well when applied directly to the paint, not much different than using black paint. I don't call that a "moody aesthetic" but more of a grimy looking mess.

    WARNING: I ruined my chalk paint project and you could too. I painted my furniture with Annie Sloan old white and it looked amazing! Then I added the Annie Sloan old wax clear as instructed by all the videos and I have wet looking blotchy streaks everywhere! Now I feel bitter because I wasted my energy and time with a ruined project. It has to be stated that these CZcamsrs teaching you these techniques and even Annie Sloan herself are professionals. Compare your Do it yourself table to theirs and you will be blown away. Applying wax is a skill and it’s not for everyone. I hate to bring so much negativity to such a positive community but this really isn’t for everyone. Test yourself. Buy a boring block of wood from Home Depot and apply 2 coats of Chalk paint and Top coat clear wax and if your results doesn’t come out good then this is not for you nor is any painting project that requires a top coat. Your better off painting a wall

    Im so glad you made this video! Ive been wanting to modernize an old buffet and like many other first time projects, I tend to "fly by the seat of my pants".. I was hoping to accomplish the white wash effect without actually white washing 😇.. I blindly purchased an antique grey chalk paint and white wax with nothing more than a hope, that it would work.. You've confirmed it! 🤩 Thanks bunches!!

    Hi Am thinking of using chalk paint on a herringbone kitchen counter I am making. Am thinking of doing different rainbow colours on each piece and then assembling the wooden sections. What would I have to seal the counter top with in order to protect the surface from kitchen spills and stains? Dechen

    • @verdigreen
      @verdigreen Před 4 lety

      Hi Clare! That sounds like a super cool project. I don't typically recommend painting countertops but since you are making it yourself and not painting over formica or laminate, it could work beautifully! Just be wary of standing water which will discolor or lift topcoats. Since it's wood, you can use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Wax in Clear to seal them and keep them food safe. However if you want something that has more of a solid finish like a poly, you could use the Gloss Lacquer. I am not sure if it's considered food safe, though, and you definitely would have to keep it dry. Good luck!

    What did you to to prep and clean the floor before applying chalk paint? Did you have to sand?

    • @verdigreen
      @verdigreen Před 4 lety

      I use diluted Fabuloso bc it's a cleaner and mild deglosser. Rinse well. Allow to dry then paint. No sanding needed!

    • @verdigreen
      @verdigreen Před 5 lety

      Hi! I don’t think I did. :( But it’s pretty easy! Clean the floor first, rinse and then dry. Then chose your color and use Annie Sloan paint with about 10% water added and brush on. It dries quickly (within an hour) so you can decide if you need a second coat or if you like the distressed look.
