what kind of finish on the 000 28? is it nitro?

THANKS I learned a lot here listening through a very good tube HiFi! As always, you can change the sound of an amp by swapping out the speaker. To my surprise, I prefer the stock Jensen P10R. Solidifies my decision to get a second-hand Fender Tweed Pro Junior IV, a 15 Watt Fender amp that comes stock with the same Jensen P10R(!) for a fraction of the cost. But it has a pc board and a tone more similar to tweed amps. Another thing I learned is that I won't be getting in line for a King of Tone pedal. Deeply appreciated all around!

I got my 1x12 Samson Era chieftain combo for £1000.

To the ear there is no difference… the difference would have been in your ability to split them but you haven’t got switch built in.. Analysing the wave forms of these… very negligent differences also… Seems a total waste to me

The GOLD just has more layers of sound than does the Jensen. And multi effects should be used sparingly, using ONE main sound and a smidge of something else. Otherwise, it starts to sound like racket.

I thought the stock pickups sounded better but perhaps what I heard was slightly lower output from the Doyle.

TCI sounds worse than 85/15, these hi ends are broking my ears, i cant imagine a sound engineer saying "We need these hi ends here to crash the sound".

Oh man the ever elusive McCarty II… it’s so gorgeous man. Love the finish on it. They’re pretty hard to come by on reverb. I’ve only ever seen two and they were snagged super quickly.

I think you will hear noticeable differences in the amp models comparing a Laurel Canyon to a C15 or C30. I own a C15, Laurel Canyon and an Independence 35. I love all my Matchless amps, but my favourite by far is the Independence. It has the best tone of all three. All built by Phil. A week ago I purchased Jeff Healey’s 100watt 1993 Chief (Chieftain) made to Jeff’s specs. Haven’t tried it yet, but I am sure it is a great Amp.

Good video. I'm believer in swapping speakers. I appreciate this. Sometimes a swap is worthless, sometimes it's amazing. This video did a good job demonstrating this.

I bought a Princeton Reverb RI and it had a Celestion G12 Alnico Blue in it. Great speaker, but not in that cabinet. Kind of destroyed the character of that am. I switched it out for a Jensen P12Q8 and love it. I use the Blue in another amp and it sounds great. All good.

Jenson is way better! Same speaker in my fender bassman 4x10 as i recall. I think the gold works better with a Marshall amp.

the Celestion Gold easily. the Jensen sounded stiff and ratty. brash and some unpleasantness on the top. the Celestion retained all the chime (its an alnico speaker, no shortage of chime there) but was much more pleasant. that riff @4:50 sold me on the Gold. people will vote for the Jensen purely because its whats in their amp. should have been a blind test.

There is a difference but don’t know if one is better than the other

To my ear the Sampson era sounded more Voxy at least in that cab.

The TMs have an overtone in a frequency that actually hurts my ears. The TCIs sound great.

Did you break the speakers in first ? I usually play a month through them before I make my decision. (especially if the speaker has a high watt rating).

I like them both, when clean, the stock speaker is very warm and the alnico is too dark, but when over driven with a pedal, I like the "flapiness" of the alnico. Great demo Thank you!

nooo.... tape your pickup as protection from metal shavings...

In room & recording is a total game changer - add a few things in the chain and most amps can sound great - no need to spend so much - after trying many I finally went for a 3 Monkeys Orangutan for a fraction of the price and just sounds better and more versatile. Very good video.

Should have done the comparison both with the same fresh tubes.
