🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Amazing video, thanks for sharing!
B58 is better in my opion. I think the Senheisers are too boomy and bright. By the time you eq the boominess out of them they're gonna sound thin. I would rather add a little high end with the Shure. Ive had great luck live with Shure. I think the best Shure is the SM86 Cardioid Condensor. It says Award winning Vocal Microphone on the box. So it must be known. Ive been singing almost 40 years and just discovered it a couple years ago . But i love it. I like it better than the Beta 87A Its my favorite live mic now. I sound a lot like Geddy Lee and its perfect for my voice.
Nobody does better comparisons than you your subtle humor makes these so much more enjoyable to watch. 😄 I listened again with my headphones sounds a lot different than on my monitors and I have the Arc system from IK Multimedia on my monitors. Listened on my Focals, the ELAM is definitely the winner the C24 next and I like the MP the WA sounds a bit harsh but with a little EQ I think it would work. I didnt like it on the acoustic but I really think if the WA was positioned closer to the body it would be better. Again I think with eq it could be a good sounding mic. We are talking roughly an 11 thousand dollar difference .You convinced me to buy the WA67 for my vocals. They got a LOT closer with that one. But I agree, why so shiny? I'd love to hear some of your finished projects. Your have some beautiful hardware my friend. . Thanks for the info.
Great Comparison Video and truly appreciate the time you and $ you put into this. I feel real bad for the Softube test, unfortunately there was some User Error in the demonstration. There is a DRY signal pot the works like a MIX knob/pot. When it’s on DRY you will not hear the effect/compression.
Overloud LA3A and 2A are on sale for $69 UAD LA3A on sale for $49 Great shootout I just grabbed the Overloud

Is it hard to get into running a studio like you do? I'm wanting to work with bands, even do live sound. I have enough microphones that will do what is needed out of a modern studio, but I've not really had much of a game plan as of yet - sadly. How does one get to your side of the "street", where you go from starting out to sustainability?
Great video

Wonderful review. Thank you sooooo much for this work.

Please do a Shootout of the TF51 VS the WA251!
Man I really miss your videos, and your shootouts!
I’m beginning to have more time! More video’s coming soon!
The three best emulations of LA2a are TimP's Opto 32 for Nebula, Pulsar Modular P11 Abyss which can mimic LA2a unbelievably and DMG Audio TrackComp 2.. UAD one is pretty good too
Thanks for the tip!
name brand and quality parts are real and cost more, neumann spends hours on QC that adds to cost. But making a copyclone and using technology to eq a "similar" product is cheaper and probably a better deal for home recording people who will never make the billboard. so enjoy! and have a "67" sound in your studio...
True! If budget was not an issue, which would you buy?
I like the unbiased honesty, and mentioning you really want the classic to blow the clonecopy away ....but they dont as much as one would think per the cost.
It is not about the cost, it is the honest quality that needs to be defined. If Warm says you can buy a 251 for 1k, are you getting the 251 quality? That’s what i’m trying to reveal
That Microphone Parts is IMPRESSIVE
Thanks for the comment!
what a beautiful review what is the best clone in your opinion Flea? Golden age? any other? Thanks you
Well since I only tested the mics in the video, i can only say that the micparts comes closest. What do you think?
my anxiety when you put that USM69 on the edge😬😬😬 but then you fixed it😮💨. great video👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks! Which one is your favorite?
Your Elam compresses the signal, and so "clamps & breathes" with it pleasantly. Most noticeable on the acoustic guitar. I find that subtle compression is a characteristic of the best mics. MP is much more sibilant than the others on vocal. WA has a push in nasal region, which is not good for this voice.
Thanks for the comment! Which is your favorite?
@@MasterclaesVideos Do you really have to ask? $$$$$$ ;-)
c24 one love!
Thanks for the comment!
Fantastic job on this video, great information!
Thanks, which is your favorite?
@@MasterclaesVideos I think UAD nails the character the best, but obviously the attack time is very different. Waves and Overloud are both good in their own right. I didn't like the Rooster as much.
Hre i am once again. I just wanted to say that after trying the La Comp i really miss a better sidechain filter. I really cant bend my head around why not every single software compressor has a flexible Sc filter when its so easy to implement. Even if it tries to be „faithful recreation“. …. i mean its software for christs sake :-)
There are many “untrue” clones out there, maybe you should have a look at those? What are you missing in the sidechain?
PS maybe you could try using a dynamic eq before going into the compressor?
@@MasterclaesVideos i cannot describe it better than i did tbh. I just want a „modern“ SC filter which is giving me the flexibility of completely excluding low end from the compression or working in a band selective way and in general gives me much more flexibility on what the detector circuit listens to. To the other part, „other untrue clones“,,,, but i want the one that sounds the nearest to the original, not others that only try to be similar but fail to do so convincingly
@@MasterclaesVideos i could. However i can still hope for tools to evolve. One argument for example , i would need an additional plugin just in order to do what most software compressor have integrated already. I mean it as a developer feedback in case they are watching and also maybe someone else might agree . Who knows 🤷
What you said about the hardware displaying ambience more is what I've noticed with 1176 plugins too.
I actually use uad 2254 plugins to reduce ambience if i have too much!
anyone know if this would give me smoother better top end then the slate vms? worth the upgrade? I always use the 251 emulation anyways
Imho if you need a smooth top end go for a c414B-uls
WA is just a bit brighter.
Thanks for the comment: just to gauge quality: what if price was not an issue, which one would you pick?
More of this content.Oh you are in Belgium (Tomorrowland) been there last year and in 2022.I may be interested in mixing 1 on 1,I live in Rotterdam.
Hey! Thank you for your interest. We can definitely do a 1-on-1. Please send me an email: info@masterclaes.be
Difficult source (fingerstyle acoustic guitar). A hard test for plugins, and they pump, while the hardware can handle the source. For slower sources like vocals, some of the plugins do a good job. My favored LA plugins in my own usage are the UAD Silver, and sometimes the gray. Hardware often has an extra layer of subtle limiting effect, even when it's compression action is slow. So the Silver, with it's tighter timings, ends up "feeling" more like hardware when I use it, just because slightly more density is added. (not referring here to this shootout, where the hardware sounds like it's compressing the least, due to handling the source better. I'm just speaking in general) The Waves bounces all over the place like a drunken sailor.
Thanks for the elaborate comment! Always nice to read other peoples idea’s!
Be nice to have the Lindell 254e in this shootout! I find myself using it more than the UAD version. No clue if it's more or less like the hardware though.
Yes I know! This was a different video than the rest of the shootouts i did. Just wanted to compare the UAD’s to my hardware. I just bought the Lindell, so i should give it a go! What did you like best? Hardware or plugin?
Hardware on the 2254. 33609 plugin vs hardware is more just different, not better or worse@@MasterclaesVideos
As always, the attack portion on the hardware is laughably superior in sound and meat to the plugins. -The UAD is closest to the hardware in tone, and on the 'crush' portion of the compression, though it crushes the attack as well, unlike the hardware and overloud. -Rooster is way too slow and polite compared to the hardware. Sounds fine, just not like an LA-3A. -CLA is clicky, hard pass. -Overloud is closest to the hardware on the attack, but the UAD is closer on the crush portion and tone.
Thanks for your insight! What i also noticed: when using a HW unit on a kick with a busy pattern, the compression does not stick as much as with plugins, the release behaviour seems to work better. Have you noticed that?
Yeah, for sure. I should clarify one part of my comment: like you said in the video, the hardware the UAD is modelling has a fast attack time, so the plugin is probably supposed to crush the attack. Just in case someone reads my comment but misses that part of the video, by chance. @@MasterclaesVideos
Boy you can feel your passion ! I think Elvis could knock out a hit on the wa 251 equally to the elam but if i was doing the kInGs moves i would be lest concerned dropping the WARM!
Thank you! Indeed, anybody could score a hit with an inferior mic, but if the singer is inspired by a nice tone of his voice he’s hearing, he could put more emotion into it. And isn’t music about emotion? Thanks for the comment! What is your favorite?
Would love to see more of this content from you :)
I’m taking a sabatical from live mixing so more content coming up!
overloud is an amazing plugin brand. curious how purafied vu comp would sound against your urei's. great video!
Thanks for the tip! I will use it when i do the elaborate 1176 comparisson video!
Microphone parts mic is really good thank you for the comparison
Thank you for the comment!
Hi Peter, hitting g you up to say how much I enjoyed this comparison review very much. Your innate ability to bring just enough levity to what I’d often a dry and boring subject is refreshing. Gonna check out the 251. 15 years ago tbd tech at Metropolis Studio, London offered me a matched pair of C12s for £2500 since one of the mics was constantly needing repair. This is why I didn’t purchase them. This predated Nashville’s insatiable hunger for the damn. I’ve been on sessions where 4 pairs were used. There’s good news though. In the past 18 months the C12 has depreciated in value. Down from a median pride of $33,000 to a mere $28000! Yet I don’t hear a stampede of folks rushing to stock up on a pile of them. Wonder why?
Thank you for the praising words! I think that comes from passing on my knowledge for the past 30 years through my masterclaes program. Man i wish i had known that tech! I’m still looking for a c12 but not at 28k…. What mic was your favorite?
Excellent demonstration - best I’ve seen. Thank you, sir.
Hi david, thank you for the comment! What was your favorite?
24 costs what 35 grand and the wa 251 is 800 bucks ? … that would be a major factor but thank you this was a fabulous pro shoot out and taught me a lot about all these mics .. ❤
Thank you for the nice comment! If money was not the issue, which one would you buy?
@@MasterclaesVideos haha well if money was no issue I’d buy all 😀 but the c24 would have to be on the list simply for bragging rights 😉✨✨✨
Hello, loved all the shootouts videos ! Any possibility for 1176 shootouts in the future ? Great stuff, Cheers
Hey there, yes a 1176 shootout is on the planning, I just need more time! Which video did you like the most?
@@MasterclaesVideos Hello, for me it was shootouts, la-2a, la-3a, microphones etc... Nobody is doing quality shootouts like that.
Please, wash your ears... WA is a nice mic for the money, but way to boomy and lack the transients.....
Hey there, how did you listen to the shootout? Because on my pmc’s and headphones the WA is the thinnest of them all. This shootout is there for people to see if a manufacturer brands a mic like: “a clone” to tell if it comes as close as possible to the real stuff. I hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the comment! What did you think of the UAD’s?
🤌
Hey Daniel, what do you mean with that hand gesture? 🤌
thank you for taking the time to do this comparison. Very informational!
Thanks for watching! Which is your favorite mic in this video?
@@MasterclaesVideos I'd be comfortable working with any of the mics but I prefer the ELAM 251 in this video. I watched your other video comparing U67 to the WA67. I was impressed. I picked up a WA67 and compared it to a 1963 U67. I was very impressed with how close they sounded.
Hey Cyril, thanks! Never heard of U-he’s presswork. Can you tell me more?
why t-racks in limit mode? am missing something maybe?
Hey Vlad, that indeed is an error from me, but as I mentioned in previous comments: an la2 is soft knee so at 3dB of gain reduction it is acting like 4:1 even if it is on 20:1. No difference in sound, attack or release times, no difference in harmonic distortion… only at higher levels above threshold there will be more gain reduction than on 4:1
To reproduce 251 ELAM on WA-251 use this in fabfilter 145hz / +1.45fb / q 1 4150hz / -3.7db / q 1.6 7850hz / -1.9db / q 5 6670hz high shelf / +1.28db / q 2
Thanks, how did you find this out? And if you do that and flip the fase, does it really disappear?
Haven't tried to reverse the phase, I used fabfilter in side chain setting, pre-leveled the gain of your source files) It's not 100%, but sounds really close. If someone could spent more time, I think it could be even more similar. The difference can appear on the high volume sources, like rock vocals, cause different capsules can react not in the same way. Your videos are superb, really wish you to continue this shootouts. Helps a lot to us!@@MasterclaesVideos
Man, the original U 67 has THAT smooooth sound and magic warmth. It sounds like a liquid and 3D at the same time. Unfortunately, the original U67 will cost me an arm and leg.
Just keep saving!! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for doing this helpful shoot out. The 33609 has more of a snap and clarity over the plug ins. I would seriously consider getting that unit. It sounds great.
Thanks for the comment!! More content coming soon!
Thank you a lot for your test !
Thanks for the comment! I hope it is useful for you!
In the context of a fully mixed song would anyone be able to tell? Would anyone actually buying and listening to music even care? You do get magic, mojo, bragging rights blah blah blah with the Neumann.🙄
Well if that is your approach, why did you even watch the video and took the time to write a comment like that? You choose to watch it… comment on it… it will not make any difference… I am just making these videos so people who can afford a Warm audio mic know what they will be buying and if they will be buying what Warm says they will be buying. This is not about bragging or blablabla… it is a fair comparison.
@@MasterclaesVideos 😂
