Sad that Joey, Leonard and Phil are no longer here. Classic lineup. That said, Summertime Girls was their commercial high water mark and they just didn’t craft other songs along that pop/rock vein. As a heavier band, they didn’t fully grasp the pop element that many bands need to have in order to really break. Dave even admits his reluctance to Summertime Girls, when it’s the catalyst that put them on MTV and the radio.

Roth isn't difficult diamond dave got one to many things you can't wash off and meds won't clear it up. The mans so nutty squirrels would touch him. Alex lost his mind selling all his gear. I guess he lost his heart and soul when eddie died. Or maybe the stories about eddie and alex are true. I mean they made Michael sell off all his rights to the music. And Alex was scared he'd get his butt kicked if he ever went on tour without his brother to watch his butt. Look I went to every concert from 1986 to 1993 in Dallas, Ft Worth and Austin. Some were 2 night gigs and my favorite 2 were 12/4 & 5th of 1991 and I have every ticket stub to prove it. I have girls panties from both Texas Jams. It was to hot to have on clothes, damn it man. But I've been a fan since the 70's in Elementary, to Jr. High and up to Eddie's passing. (RIP) But from all the interviews I've read in print on MTv and other Tv programs, I have to say Eddie and Alex were the problem. So if Alex doesn't want to play no more his loss. I was a sammy fan before he joined Van Halen and he was a good front man for Van Halen. He's still kickin it. So alex go crawl in your hole and stay there or bite the bullet and come play for us like the old days. Unfortunately he's lost it like Diamond Dave.

Ive had Hagar's book for a long time and after reading it I didn't feel any vibes that Hagar was slamming EVH. The book was really about Hagars account of his life, career and relationships. He even discussed about his racist father but I didn't feel any vibes that he was trashing anyone. Alex didnt exactly say what was even false in Hagars book pertaining to either Van Halen brother. Uh ,Roth as usual is a different story. Im out😮😮😮😮

My speculation is that Alex was probably getting a lot of bull from everywhere as he was trying to get the trubute for Ed together. I think what broke the camels back was when Newsted went and spilled the beans after being asked by Alex to play bass. After that, Alex probably figured FTS and retired in the altimate tribute to his Bro. God Speed AVH and enjoy you retirement. RIP EVH. 🙏

Roth in the early days worked in the studio , but live , vocally ...he sucked ! He got away with it with his stage show not his voice. Sammy live today even with the drop D tuning, is passable but that is it. Joe is a great guitar player, but without ED, it's just not Van Halen . I would like to see a record of studio tracks never released come out if possible ! I Feel Alex just does not have the drive to play without Edward Period . They rode the waves together through thick and thin and now the seas are still , RIP Edward !

In Sammy’s book he also wrote that Alex was a better drummer when he was drinking. I’m not a Sammy fan but I cannot disagree with that statement

Good for Burton and Randy stopping this fake band that is trying to emulate them, and cash in. It's wrong. Burton owns the catalogue rights to "all" Guess Who songs, and can withhold permission to perform them, and he should, as they did not create these songs, and blemish the image of the Guess Who, and Burton and Randy want it protected. They can use the name the Guess Who, as Jim Kale has the rights to use the name, as of 1978, but just the "name" but not the songs. Also Kale was given permission by Cummings to use the name, in 1978, for just a couple of tour dates. Kale then realized the Guess Who trademark was not owned by anyone, so he bought it, under false pretenses. He put in his application in 1978, but did not say the band started in 1965, so that trademark obtained by Kale was obtained under false information, and should be retracted. Burton and Randy are the GUESS WHO period and I'm glad their taking action against fraudsters. Does not matter if there is 1 or 2 original members performing with this Fake Band -- it should not be allowed. Cummings and Bachman have big money, to hire great lawyers, and totally shut these guys down. As Cummings said on an interview, they had 45 years to create their own music, and didn't do anything.

This is just my opinion, but I think Alex needs to get over Sam's book and while it was not Sam's place to say things (true or not ) about what was going on with Ed and his personal life, Alex needs to step up and be the better man and forgive Sammy after all, Alex is not called Rev for nothing....he is an ordained minister and being so, he should know that you are supposed to forgive others. He should practice what he preaches! Alex is a Great drummer and I respect him as a drummer but not as a person.

I could understand Alex's outrage about Sammy exploiting Ed's substance abuse if Alex--never mind Ed--was even 1% apologetic to the fans about Ed's 2004 performances as a result of his substance abuse. Sammy stating a fact while apologizing to the fans is not nearly as bad as Alex denying it, yet Alex is cutting off Sammy for stating the truth.

I was one of the 14,000 or so that saw the best of all worlds tour on July 20th at Jiffy Lube live in Virginia. It was quite moving, but also very well done. Great musicians, a great song list, and definitely could tell they had practiced. They nailed every song, including a bit of Dance the Night Away that really surprised Sammy, and Joe was on fire, unbelievably, the entire night!

As a massive original line up fan of Van Halen, i could not care less that there will never be a tribute show for eddie. Most tribute shows are effing corny ESPECIALLY when you are paying tribute to someone as great as Eddie. So long as we have whatever recordings they made between 78-84, I'm good. Now releasing vault material is another story, but that has nothing to do with a tribute show

I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone that Eddie and Alex were extremely difficult and toxic to work with. Unfortunate fact because EVH is my hero but man, those guys just knew how to wreck opportunities from 1995 onward. From 2007 onward they paraded around with a caricature of Roth, released an embarrassment of a live album with him, etc, They should have mended their fences with Sam long long ago and gone out the right way. Van Halen fans are no doubt treated shittier by their band than any other fans. Even after Ed’s death, it continues.

They literally don't even need a singer. It could be Alex and Wolf, and they can have a different guitarist for every song and the entire concert can be a musical with Eddie's guitar parts as the highlight. That would still be a multimillion dollar tour. I would definitely go.
