Insight from a Finn in 06/2024: do not come here unless you are a highly skilled professional. Our economy is not great, unemployment has been rising and even old companies are going bankrupt. Finns have very little loose money, as the taxes keep raising but salaries lack behind. The benefits are not that good either and they have just been decreased for family units greatly. Public healthcare does not work, it costs for adults too. A new law will be passed soon, meaning the employer can cut the worker loose without a reason in the future. This is a huge change and there have been riots against it...

This is a negative thing that is difficult to spot quickly and should be known by any foreigner settling in Finland. In Finland there is a unique bullying culture. Bullying occurs everywhere, but in Finland it is an institution with special qualities. Bullying takes place in schools, the workplace, churches, and in any social grouping such as registered societies and sport clubs. When it does take place, and this is the unique feature, the victim of bullying is always blamed by everyone. In schools, the teachers blame the victim and stand up for the bully. They deny that bullying takes place in specific, although they may admit it in general or outside their circle. In the workplace, the same occurs. The bully is glorified, the victim universally chastised. In other countries, there are always defenders, sometimes few, but at least enough to diminish the problem. Furthermore, in other places, persons of authority do not always defend bullies. I have seen this repeatedly over decades and it is always the same. People may privately disapprove, but in public they always meet bullying with silence or support the bully. They have just elected a president who was an acknowledged bully in school and such people tend to do so later in life as well. Finns who are bullied often leave the country or commit suicide, which is the major reason for high suicide rates in Finland. Now a foreigner is not really likely to be the victim of bullying, although it can occur. But it is vital to know what kind of society you are entering.

I think the language, degree and skills are the key for white collar job or almost any job. Learn the language and start using it as soon as possible. I know so many people here from other countries who know only basic phrases in finnish and then they wonder why they can’t get a job. Of course there are some low paid jobs you can find and manage to do with very basic finnish, but not white collar ones or anything where you need to be able to communicate in finnish or swedish. Dark is hard for some of us too, so we often use these bright light lamps to give us energy in the morning.

Unfortunately Finland is falling down hard right now the job market for example is very small and insular, especially as a foreigner you will have a impossible time getting a job since you WILL be discriminated against in job searches. Unless you want to work for 5€/H then it's fine and dandy, that's my personal experience at least. Wouldn't move here from abroad since there are EU countries with better job markets than Finland.

BUT you must come if you like to be lazy, socialist and want to depend on the government like 100% and ALSO if you don’t like people you totally HAVE TO BE HERE 😂😂😂 this video is ridiculous. It doesn’t give you any sort of import information if you’re going there like: how much is average wage of leaving, how much money is taken from your paycheck, education system, rules that might be weird that if you don’t know them you get charged, etc.
