    Here's the thing and this hurts harley and it hurt buell... Those kind of bikes need to exist... There needs to be 1000 dollar used bikes that a 16-18 year old can buy and ride with a company's name and style. Even better if those bikes are super simple on the engineering side and easy to ride. Marketing people and engineers just don't understand how many people buy Hondas because their first car or bike was a reliable Honda. No young persons first bike is gonna be a sportster.. not if they have any sense. This blows over into countries with tier licensing as well. If a persons first bike has to be a <400cc and I buy a bitchin used honda or yamaha for $1500. When it's time for a new bike they're likely to be looking at yamaha or honda first.

    The biggest thing people misunderstand in racing is not understanding the simple fact that wait and torque and traction are number one. You can put twice the boost in a car but you still very rarely beat a simple naturally aspirated pump gas big block with lightweight and traction. That's let alone if you put boost in the big block also. It's big block and lightweight and traction

    Great video...I just got a 93 with 6700 miles on it in excellent condition. Rebuilt the carbs, changed the fluids, new plugs and she fired right up.... So what do I do? Laid it down in a uturn...Scraped it up a lil bit....My response at 66 is the same when I was 16....never mind the blood..😱...Oh shit !!! my bike...My sons think I'm crazier!!!!......😁..Sweet bikes....

    • @Bucky916
      @Bucky916 Před 2 lety

      Yes, the RR designation is still used today on many bikes from pretty much all makers. it is race ready, but still street legal. There is a lot of things you have to do to a bike that carries the RR designation even before you can race them. It just means pretty much all you need to do is safety wire the bike and send it!

    Carburettors + shaft drive + kickstart thats all the xr12r was missing to become a hit in europe (cuz here in europe we leave tech to ducati and metrosexuals and put huge carbs on harley engines without any electronics for men with unshaven balls) purity at its finest... as close to a britten as possible. And some more of gas in the tank... 14l is a joke.

    I must say, I always wanted this bike because I love the look, but when I drove one, the handling didn't convince me. I own a YZF750R from '94, and its handling and suspension and brakes are much better - she has less torque, ok, but the yzf feels way sportier to me. And they are so cheap! 😊

    Sigh…believe it or not, after hearing about it for years, I'm finally viewing this clip for the first time. I suppose you could say that poor little Blast ultimately got payback , as H-D eventually did unto Buell what Buell did unto that Blast…corporately-speaking, of course.

    They may not be the best, but they’re sure different. I love em. I know lots of the parts are made from other countries, but they’re assembled here in the USA! (Were). I still own over 20 buells. Some repairs are easy and some, kinda difficult. Parts are reasonably priced. But I enjoy them, if ya wanna keep ridin em, gotta keep maintaining em.

  • @123clis321

    Erik Buell proves he is not a business man in this video. Not only does he crush a solid entry price point bike, he crushes potential dreams of those on a budget! You CAN NOT buy a Honda Grom for what Buell Blasts typically sell for. Futhermore, this Doochebag instead of stewing over his Harley mandated departure should be selling update parts for this bike. New exhausts, fuel injection, updated ignitions, carb rejet kits, manual chokes, shift kits...but no, he cubes a bike, feeds his overated ego and leaves money on the table and in the process shows how he is not a businessman. When will he start trashing Rotax engines? I wouldn't buy an EBR on a bet. This guy will single handedly self destruct and tank the value of your purchase.

    When I first saw this video back when Erik originally posted it I lost respect. Not necessarily for crushing the Blast, but because how it contradicted how he had previously marketed the Blast. How can you trust a man whose actions show that he was simply lying to potential customers all that time? If he had admitted his lie during this video, and maybe stated why he lied for years marketing the Blast, then maybe I'd still have respect.

  • @WillardTurner
    @WillardTurner Před 7 lety

    I have a blast that I like a lot, and I'm not new to motorcycles. Compared to my 750 inline 4, it's definitely not fast, but it is fun while being simple, efficient, and cheap. I understand what Erik was saying by crushing the blasts; they were simply not what Buell set out to do, and people started seeing the Blasts and judging the company based on what they saw. An under-powered, quirky, and awkward standard is not what Buell wanted it's name to be known for. However, I think that Erik should have considered that sometimes in business you have to make what the market wants, as your bread and butter, in order to have the privilege to put out the truly awe inspiring machines that Erik's passion lies in. I think this is the big reason that Buell has so much trouble getting back on it's feet, time and time again. Many of us do not want another race oriented, power-house, snarling beast of a sport bike on the market. We want a simple and reliable machine that gets us from A to B, with a little style, and little more fun. The blast does that in spades.
