Today we are going to make paste papers, a paper decorating technique that dates from the 1600s. They can also be used as art papers for collage backgrounds, as collage fodder, for cardmaking, and ...

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts Před dnem

      Hi Barbara, I use an acrylic gel medium, usually Golden or Liquitex. It is a full bodied adhesive that allows lots of slip and time to move pieces but dries very strong. You can also use a PVA (white craft glue) but I suggest adding a tiny bit of water to it as on its own it drags and does not apply evenly. A little water helps with that slip and gets a more even surface. Hope this helps!

    these are so cute!! and artsy and useful and so very ecological!! I was wondering how can I use the suspicious, plasticky twine I get with the egg cartons from the market (30 pc, large trays). I can also use leftovers from macrame projects. and as for the paper?!! I can use just about anything!! including failures from the momigami technique I learned from you [ and now I got to the part where you show how you made a net from your momigami pieces ]. can you imagine the effect of some dark paper netting like this, doubled up on pastel pages? or at least some light pictures/designs/ilustrations and now you're talking, I feel like trying a "kinked up" yarn as base... 🤔 it might come up even more organic, and lacy, and interesting 🤭 as usual, thanks for sharing!!

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts Před 2 dny

      What great ideas, Irina. I also tried the kinked up threads. I just let them fall in loops and glued the paper over it. The results were okay but good enough that I think it's worth trying and working on. Also, using two tones or colours of paper so that you are pulling through and shredding both and the fringe mixing together and revealing shades. Thanks for comparing notes! Kelly

Get the cheapest one you can find and load up a spray bottle, the kind you use for plants and then spritz away - the cover, the inside pages - and let it dry. As it is a spirit it will dry without leaving watermarks. Repeat a time or two and hey, presto, you are ready to use your book. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I usually use a fountain pen and I am addicted to green ink in every shade of green there is! Kelly

    I am loving the pivot plan for your channel content, blog post, classes and newsletter. Excited & curious. The give away is very generous (crossing fingers). Did I see a new video of French ephemera? I'm already drooling. Cheers!

    For me, it looks like pretty antique floral dresses that you could make for dolls, even if they’re paper dolls the colors are so eye catching. The food and floral ones we would make beautiful dresses off-white paper was just words it may be be the under slip petticoat

    It's also great for papier-mache. Makes a strong bond between papers and, as a bonus, it doesn't dry your hands like wheat flour paste does. On the 2nd day, it can be a bit lumpy. But strir it up with an immersion blender, and it smoothes out beautifully.

      Also, I forgot to share, you can use it to stick fabric to walls.
