I usually spray it with some carb cleaner,then take some .30 welding wire and move the ball around till the debris breaks up.

I made my own removal tool with a tire iron. (One with a flat hubcap tool end) Only minimal grinding to shape it so it fits snugly, (that is VERY important), and the bent end that is normally for removing the lugnut provides a good handle to twist. The slot gap in the check valve is quite wide, and if you try using a screwdriver, they don't match and you will just end up damaging or breaking the checkvalve cap.

This is like performing brain surgery with a sawzall. C'mon man! The proper tools go for around 30 bucks and will be at your door in 2 days along with the new check valve you should probably order. If you only have one to fix, sell the damn thing on eee bay for 29 bucks as "only used once". At least wrap some cloth or paper towel around the damn file to keep from scarring up the pump tube. My best recommendation is to not store your lantern in the rain for the better part of a decade. Many, many Coleman appliances have been permanently destroyed during check valve removal attempts. The proper tool leaves no chowder marks and the check valve will be factory perfect on the brass when you remove it. It's your lantern/stove. Use your best judgement before proceeding.

I tried this with an unmolested file and quit after using a fair amount of force. I did not want to break the file or screw up the CV. What finally worked was a day and a half of white vinegar. I had previously tried MEK and IPA. In a bad case I don't think it would be crazy to fill the tank with vinegar up to the level of the CV. Well worth buying a set of gunsmithing screw drivers to fit critical screws well...just as an aside.

These were great boats with a fantastic handling and performing hull. So good that another boat company Stryker copied the design or maybe purchased the molds from Hammond (not sure). Strykers were likely lighter and I don't believe the quality was nearly as good. With a carb'd 454 Mercruiser they would run in the low 70's if I remember correctly, straight from the factory.

A few tweaks on this version would make it safer and easier on your back. I built one for my recent roof replacement. I took apart my extension ladder and used those for the uprights. I just used u bolts around the ladder rungs to clamp 2 each 2x4's to the back of the ladder for cross braces, one has to be at the top for pully installation. Luckily my ladders end 3' above the roof edge (no bending needed for loading or off loading). I could easily do 2 bundles at a time. I drilled a hole in the sled side rails so I could insert a 12" barn spike into the hollow rung of the ladder.. I tied the spike to the ladder with some twine so it would always be hanging right where I needed it. My sleds were about 3' tall and the shelf was about 10" from the top. I attached the cable below the midpoint of the sled so 1/2 the sled could go above the pully bringing the shingles to the top of the ladder. I was able to off load from the roof side since they were at the top of the ladder and waist high. . I'm 63 years old and not in the greatest shape, I did 94 bundles in 3.5 hours staging them all on the ridge.

In 1979, I moved to Switzerland and took my Coleman Lamp along. Reasently I found it in my Garage and it did not work. Next to cleaning all parts and restoring the Generator, I removed the Check Valve easily with a "SCREWDRIVER NR. 6, EUROPEAN SIZE"

I got a nice opportunity to meet Tom Selleck and John Hillerman in the winter of 1982 on the property that's next door to the left side of the Magnum PI driveway entrance where the big gate was. They were in that next door property filming "Foiled Again" where John Hillerman and Tom Selleck we're filming. I got to see TC's Volkswagen bus, the Ferrari some of the guest stars. Tom was pretty quiet, and John Hillerman was really a very sweet man, comes from Texas and has no English accent. We got to know one of the body guards and he gave us Magnum PI baseball caps and we had them autographed. Is such great memories
