    I am Level 4 security in the state of Texas. We carry one service weapon, holstered in condition 3. Logan didnt even have a security license. Your supposed to receive a level III card in the mail, from the state. Logan wasnt even authorized to carry. His security company and Lowes managment was very unprofessional.

      I believe Oregon law requires the possibility of parole after 25 years served during life sentences. He had completed the armed licensing course process, either was waiting for his license from the state or hadn’t submitted it. The issuance of the license wouldn’t have changed this. He was eligible. What’s alarming is he wasn’t the only person working without one for this out fit. This pattern suggests an accepted practice likely due to turnover and costs. In other states the fines alone for an officer working without a professional license would have put a small operator out of business….Before any civil action. A simple site inspection and asking the guard to present his Security and Armed license would have told a field operations supervisor he was not authorized to be there. It’s standard to check. I

    If you watched his body cam, this security guard was prick. Victim had permission to take pallets. Security guard was harassing victim and when victim was just doing his job, he shot him. It was no self defense. Self defense means you tried to walk away and attacker follow you to harm you. It doesn't mean you stand in front of his car from parking space trying to drive away and you are standing in front of his car to shoot him.

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity Před 8 dny

      Just to be clear this video was made two years ago with only Gimbel’s personal body camera and the Oregonian article to reference. I did not believe it was self-defense then, or now. The Nelson’s challenged his ego, not his safety. There is a big difference. His use of force was unlawful and unjustified. The Security provider should have addressed any concerns directly with Lowe’s after the Nelson’s said they had an agreement with leasee to take their property (pallets). Gimbel claimed Freddy assisted a person running from Security during a theft case else where on the property. Normally Security will do a stand by assist for leaseholders during loss prevention stops but I find it odd they would chase any suspects as the crime normally does not happen in the presence unless they are standing static / roving retail patrol, general liability concerns and safety for the suspect / officer. It’s not worth getting run over for a candy bar or 12 pack of beer. In this case Gimbel said it was some tools. This calls into question what the Security Officers mindset was, what they thought their job was. Also Normally landlords will contract Security services for the common areas, parking lots and external spaces….All internal leased spaces would be independent of the contract with the landlord, those business owners would contract their own security services to patrol and secure their own leased space. It’s important distinction especially if a trespass occurred, where would it apply.

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity Před 11 dny

      I still don’t understand why he thought he could not disengage. No risk to the property even with them refusing to leave. Call law enforcement. I don’t know what the lease agreement was for Lowe’s …if they were leasing the building or the building and parking lot. Was the security provider supposed to be monitoring the spaces in front of their building…Security for the common spaces usually does not cross over to the tenants leased spaces until a separate contract for service exists even if they have one for property management for common areas. He had an informal agreement with a Lowe’s employee, to take the pallets, he wasn’t a formal contractor / employee of the business. Any type of point of contact, formal agreement would have gone a long way. It’s crazy to me that the Security provider would not have reached out after even one interaction and being told he had an agreement to clarify if he was an authorized person. At this time they could have addressed any previous trespass or concerns they had. Gimbel said the vehicle was suspected to have been involved in a theft of tools from another business at the complex.

    The security guard broke the law every time he threatened to detain a person. There is a history here of this guard and others pulling out cuffs. This person even said on another occasion, “I’m putting you under arrest.” The first time I was threatened by a private citizen with cuffs and arrest, I would have called the local police.

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity Před 15 dny

      Are you stating in general or in regards to the Nelsons? A Security Officer can make citizens arrests if a crime happens in their presence. How this is done differs in each state. Felony / Misdemeanor. The law affords the least amount of force necessary. Handcuffs can only be used to prevent escape or resistance. They also carry a huge amount of liability especially if you get it wrong. Mr Gimbals actions were inconsistent with the law. That being said a Security Officer stopping an armed bank robber and handcuffing him isn’t breaking the law.

      Speaking generally and not in reference to this incident, in terms of Security going hands on....There are States allow reasonable, under the reasonable man doctrine, force to be used during a Citizens Arrest or Self Defense....Generally you can protect property, you personally witnessed the theft. That being said, is it worth getting in a fight over a 15 dollar case of beer? We are not talking taking Gold Bars from the Federal Reserve. General speaking, jury's are more understanding the bigger the threat is as well...IE Armed Robbery Suppression. Ext, it's also easier to justify your actions rather than over a pack of bubble gum. Liability and you are not protected under qualified immunity ( you can be personally sued for any action you take, even not take in some instances) . Even if ultimately lawful, you can be arrested. You will have to defend yourself in court. People loose sight of the big picture.

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity Před 19 dny

      Arming Security Officer's has inherent risk to it. It brings a gun into play where there may not be one. A worst case scenario happened, a person lost their life where they shouldn't have over something incredibly minor. I don't think that can be disputed. I will add it typically takes a lot for clients to contract Armed Officers. The assets either have to be so high that it's not questioned or they have had a series of incidents that suggest that is the only option. I don't know how Gimbel's employer was contracted to the site. I do know from recent releases on CZcams the site had a history of drawing in unhoused individuals due to the can collection / redemption facility. Lowe's was only one of the businesses at the property.

      Depends who you work for. Allied Universal is generally hands off, observe and report. The Guard in this case, likely approached the perpetrator and advised him to leave. Verbally telling someone to vacate the property and escorting them from the property are common duties for mall security. Telling someone they can’t sleep or camp in the mall, is a normal security duty not necessarily law enforcement which means the guard would have interacted with the perpetrator as a hands off or on officer. Going hands on, having the training and tools, would be after the threat and not simply for sleeping. Having typical mall security observe and report post orders would not have stopped this. Clearly the perp escalated this above a simple order to leave.

      Jail's in the United States are primarily pre-conviction / pre-trial confinement. The historic term of jailer does not encompass or convey the duties of a modern-day Jailer assigned deputy or Corrections Officer...Sworn or Non-Sworn Officers can be assigned to the facility. So where does that leave us? Prison Guards work post-conviction. Usually work around the same inmates for years. Inmates in jail are not convicted and come and go. So I am not sure I agree with your assumption or if it is easy to assign a title to the Officers that fulfill these roles. Rehabilitation isn't easy in a jail setting....GED programs usually exist but the inmates can come and go as I stated before finishing their programs. Not a heck of a lot of success. They do learn basic janitorial skills, maintenance / landscaping, and kitchen work. It's not much but some do try to use it as a job experience.

    I worked as a Correction Officer for 28 years in Pennsylvania. This tray is a typical tray. A bag lunch was served to the inmates when the jail was on lockdown, they missed a meal due to an outside trip to a doctor, or being transported to a different jail. They had 2 bologna sandwiches, a couple of mustard packs , an apple and a milk. Diabetic inmates got a diabetic bag in the evenings before evening lock down. They had graham crackers and a fruit, like an apple or pear. There were special diet trays for some inmates, and for Muslims there were Ramadan meals during Ramadan. No pork was served and very seldom beef was served except for beef liver and onion day. The trash cans in the dinning hall got full real quick those days. The only thing I really didn't let leave the dinning hall were bananas. The inmates would flush the banana peels and clog the toilets up. The plumber would have to be called to unclog the toilets. I never worried about bread or cookies. Although, some inmates made wine from the bread. Some bread, sugar, drink mix and jelly will brew you up some hooch to get drunk on.

Some states require psychological screenings to be an Armed Officer…As far as I know this is not required in Oregon, this may have helped. Interviewers have to assess problem solving skills and anger management…Sometimes the need for officers clouds best judgement. I also I want add, I don’t believe he was trying to act like a law enforcement officer either. The deployment of OC was clearly out of annoyance, anger in my opinion (he was charged and convicted for unlawful force as well). He should have simply stepped aside and called law enforcement when they entered their vehicle. They were not an active threat to the property, client, or assets.

      Yes. It's still important. With the changes to the guard card course, this video and workbook are only electives for continuing education. BSIS has made it a point to replace it with active shooter education.

    American people deal with those countries when it comes to oil. And American people deal with Korea and China and other countries like Russia I think all that should stop.

      X26 is a Single Shot. With XDPM Officers will carry an exta cartridge but it requires a reload. Even with the single shot, you can use it as a contact, drive stun, device if you miss for pain compliance.
